1.5 yrs out and 190 lbs gone. Going to WDW in January. Any suggestions on best places to eat and what to eat? I will certainly be sharing our DP credits with Granddaughter.

DH and I just got back from 12 days. He is 1 yr 6 months out and i am 1 year 1 month out. Between the two of us we have lost about 320 lbs. We found that at most resturants there was something we could eat. We chose to do the Delux dining because fast food does not settle well with either of us. We almost always split something, unless we wanted somehting different, then we would split with the kids. When you only eat 2-6 oz of food an app, entre, and dessert is just tooo much. Even splitting we threw away a TON of food. Careful with the desserts that say no added sugar, some are sweetend with splends, and some with fructose. Everytime (well twice was enough) I tried one of the ones sweetend with fructose it made me horribly ill. Here are the places we ate:

Subway (i know not disney)
Crystal Palace (the salmon was excellent)
Yachtsman Steak House ( I tried some kind of no added sugar dessert that made me horribly ill)
Boma
Yack and Yeti (the lettuce cups are the perfect food!)
Spoodles (there wasnt much on the menu I could eat, we did try the pork tenderloin, great flavor but too tough and too dense.
Whispering Canyon Cafe
50's Prime time (seriously yummy meatloaf)
Mama Melrose (Oven baked parm chicken was fried...careful)
Akershus
Marakesh (the most tender chicken I have ever eatten)
Cape May
Artist Point
Ohana's
Beaches and Cream ( I ate a turkey sandwich minus the bread that was amazing)
Cali Grill
Chef Mickeys
Teppan Edo
1900 Park Fair
Narccossee's
Jiko

if you have any question PM me. Dont forget to keep drinking, we would forget and end up lightheaded and dizzy. Dh and I both seriously miss chugging a bottle of water!

First, congratulations on your success, to both the OP and the PP! :cheer2:

3 1/2 years out and 150 lbs gone for me. I don't think anyone who hasn't been through it can appreciate the special challenges that face someone who has had gastric bypass at WDW.

We're headed down to WDW in a few weeks. We plan to split meals as much as possible. I can't do fried foods or more than a few bites of breads or potatoes. I have spent a lot of time here on the DISboards looking through pictures of the food, trying to find things that would work for me. The menus online are helpful, but not nearly as much as the pictures for me, because sometimes the descriptions just don't tell you everything you need to know. My other half thinks I am completely obsessed, because I have been making lists with photos, so I know what my best options are in each park. As far as I am concerned, planning is my best chance for success. (Having 'tossed my cookies' at all 4 parks the first time I visited WDW about 10 months post-op, I know better now than to try to 'wing it.')

I have been doing my research to find counter service locations that have offerings such as salads with grilled chicken, rather than the old standbys of burgers, hot dogs, and pizza, which all have too much bread for me now. I'm also looking at the offerings at table service locations, to find appetizers that would work for me (so I'm not wasting 3/4 of an entree), or to start negotiating for shared entrees. As I mentioned above, I am also finding several alternatives in each park, in addition to the places where I have ADR's, in case our plans change and I am not where I expected to be at meal time. (If I wait too long to eat, I almost certainly end up getting sick, so I need options.)

I also called to see about having a microwave in the room, so I can reheat leftovers (since I try to eat protein 5 - 6 times each day) but they told me I can't request one until check-in. (We're staying at WL.) But I was told that even if they don't have one available to put in the room, there is one in the food court that I can use to heat food.

And don't forget about having a few good healthy snacks with you in the park. (Nuts work best for me.) This can hold you over until a later reservation, or get you through if a meal just isn't sitting well.

And as the PP suggested, make sure that you are drinking plenty of water throughout the day!

I'll try to remember to come back here after the trip and let you know of any good places/dishes that I find.

Have a great trip!

Wow - Congrats on all your weight loss! I have not had the surgery but I do want to let you know that at all WDW restaurants you can ask to speak to the chef.

DH was a WDW chef for 13 years and guests were always asking for him at the restaurant and also even before their trip. They can work with most medical conditions/restrictions etc. If you have ADRs just call the restaurant and ask to speak to the chef. Let them kow when you will be there and what you can/can't eat and they will let you know what they have available - they can do some things are not on the regular menu.

Thanks for the replies...........keep em coming! I can not tolerate chicken for some reason, or tuna salad and only a few bites of egg. I have not had any issues with sugar or carbs so far........that is the BAD thing. I can seem to eat them and they don't bother me. I will make sure I have my liquid protein drinks with me for sure. We are getting the new quick service dining plan...counter service and snacks....hope this works out.

Everyone's experience is different. For me, what I can and can't eat seems to change over time. I went through about 6 months when I couldn't eat chicken at all. Now it's not usually a problem. On the other hand, I was OK with ice cream for a while, but I haven't been able to tolerate more an a spoonful or two for the past 18 months or so. I've also found that I can eat certain foods alone, but not in combination with each other, or in the same meal. It seems strange, but as my surgeon pointed out, it's all about learning to listen to your body.

Thankfully, Disney seems to be getting better about having better, healthier choices at the counter service restaurants, so you should be able to find good food. The protein drinks are a good idea too. Do you have the powdered single-serve packets? They saved me on a trip to central Europe about 6 months after my surgery.
