Calling MS for Day by Day Ressies?

I have read comments/suggestions about calling day by day when making ressies at the 7 month window (have heard it is generally not necessary for the 11 month window). I am concerned about doing that because what if, out of a 7 night vacation, you can get what you want for nights 1-4, not 5-6, but then again for night 7. What do you do? I assume go on a wait list, but then I would be concerned about booking flights, making plans, etc. for unsure accommodations. What are your experiences with booking day by day?

I think that booking day by day even at 11 months is necessary for December and for F&W at the BWV for instance, if you want either Boardwalk view or Standard View. I called a day or two later than 11 months out and had to waitlist for SV during the F&W in '06. I got what I wanted...but I had been surprised that I didn't get the sv studio right away.

If you are booking 7 months out, and a day isn't available, I would go to any DVC for that day and waitlist for the resort that would be a seamless stay. Alternatively, you can look at what you have at the end of your day by day booking period and decide that there's too many holes and try to book something for the whole stay. I suppose that's the chance you take in not owning the particular home points, but many many people are able to get what they want at 7 months, perhaps using the waitlist.

We have been renting points for years and finally bought for ourselves recently. We have never had problems at the 11 month window, but we generally go the first two weeks in December. Maybe the problem at the 11 month window is with the last two weeks.

We aren't picky about where we stay, we love'em all. =) I think our best bet at 7 months might just be to call when we can book the whole week and take what we can get. I hate the calling day by day thing.

For December, we had to go day by day. We had to be wait listed for the second week in December for a 1 bedroom at VWL. We did get the two days that we needed to complete our reservations at the 7 month window.
