calling home to Ontario w/ Virgin Mobile?

anyone know how I can call home from WDW using my Virgin Mobile phone? The last time I tried to call from the USA it told me my home phone number didn't exist! Can I buy a canadian calling card or should I find one down there to use? Any ideas...you guys are always so helpful!

You can't use your Virgin phone in the US yet. DB tried but it's not available yet so my best advice would be to buy a President's Choice phone card and call from a regular land line phone. We love our Virgin phone but that is our one pet peeve with Virgin but I hope it will be available in the US in the very near future.

Currently Canadian Virgin Mobile phones only work in Canada. However, one thing we discovered when we tried to make a phone call too close to the border is that there are places in the US which have a "roaming network" that will allow you to make a cell phone call at a premium price (I think it was $2).

Buying a calling card down there might be your best bet until Virgin starts offering us US service (they say they're "working around the clock" on that, but they have been for at least a year).

I'm a happy Virgin Mobile customer and took my phone with me on our March Break trip to WDW. I was going to use my phone to find a hotel in and around Atlanta on the first night coming home from WDW but decided against that idea when I was informed by the happy recorded voice that there would be a $2.99 US roaming charge and the call would be charged at $1.99 US/minute. This was for a local call.

This tells me that while Virgin Mobile Canada phones now work in the USA, it really isn't worth using your Virgin Mobile Canada phone in the USA.
