Hi amberle3 - thanks for your great posts...hoping you can answer a question for me. We are going to WDW next May. I booked the air tickets 1.5 mos ago - had to in order to get 3 tickets through aeroplan. I am booking room only at DW, hopefully will get AAA or Annual Pass discount. I asked BCAA about getting trip interruption insurance, which I read about in one your posts. They said I can't get any insurance as I have to arrange it within 48 hours of booking the flight...do you know of anyway to get interruption ins? Does Disney offer it? I am not concerned about cancellation as aeroplan can be cancelled any time up to the day you travel (I know a small fee involved), and the room only I have through Disneyworld is not due until check in (I know I would lose one night deposit if within 6 days). I did not even think about ins when I booked airfare - only doing it early as you have to to get 3 tickets together....

One last question - medical insurance can be bought any time before I go, right? It does not have any conditions like above does it? Thanks so much for your help!!!!!!!

Maggie,

First of all, good for you for thinking about insurance, you'd be surprised at how many people don't.

Re: Cancellation/interruption insurance: The time frame is different for the various providers. Almost all of them will issue a "late issuance authorization", unless your trip is really soon. What will happen is that your effective date is basically the date you purchase the insurance instead of the date you purchased the tickets, so all conditions and exclusions etc that refer to "purchase date" become the date of the insurance purchase, not the ticket purchase.

If for whatever reason you aren't able to get a late issuance authorization, you can purchase the cancellation/interruption insurance with what's called a "zero prior".

<technical stuff>
When you purchase cancellation insurance you have to specify the amount ($$) that you'd stand to lose if you cancelled your trip. The coverage will be for something (as an example) like $1000/unlimited - which means $1000 for the cancellation part of it, unlimited for the interruption part of it.
</technical stuff>

If you get cancellation insurance with a zero prior, it means that you won't get any money back if you have to cancel your trip, but you will receive the full benefits of the interruption insurance.

re: Medical insurance:
Can be purchased at any point up until departure from the country. Should be purchased before you leave the province actually, as your provincial health care won't fully cover you in other provinces.

You can also purchase package insurance that covers both of these but depending on the circumstances it might work out to be less expensive purchased separately.

If you have any detailed questions feel free to PM me.
