Calling all Scrapbookers!

Dear Scrapbookers,

My Aunt recently got a scrapbook made and was astonished by the price. If you don’t mind, I would like you to give a rough estimate based on the details I give you.


Basic black cloth book
25 laminate page protectors
50 pages

Mardi Gras Theme
About 2-3 packets of store bought pieces (little beads, New Orleans signs, ect)
Some pages have nice paper background, but most have basic, solid colors.
Pictures framed with contrasting borders
Some glitter glue writing
A few cut-outs….such as 10 bowling pins, circles, masks, others dealing with Mardi Gras
There were about 6-10 pictures per page….some had more, some had less

All pictures and newspaper articles were printed and provided.


What would be your estimate?

For a 12x12 simple album, I charge $7.00 per page plus the cost of supplies, so the basic cost of the album (my time) is $350 plus supplies. 50 sheets of cardstock (I use bazzill) would run me $27.50 or so if I purchase at my LSS. Patterened paper can run anywhere from Michael's $0.55 a sheet up to name brand fancy stuff at the LSS for $2.00 a sheet

I have never sold an album, (not that I would have time to make another since I cant see to get me own albums done), but I would charge around $400 in my area (DC metro) for a simple book. I am sure if you found an "expert" in this area they would charge up to $800 a book, but that is DC prices and everything is overpriced!

Sounds similar to one I did for a lady a few years back. I charged her cost for the materials and I believe I charged about $8 or $9 a page. Her book was close to $700.00. I spelled it out for her though and gave her an estimate before I started and even had a contract for her to sign so she wouldn't back out. She didn't bat an eyelash and paid me in cash.

I would expect close to $10 a page- it take a lot of time to do the work so I would have charged about $500, depending on the supplies.

For a fairly simple 12x12 (which sounds like what you described) I would charge $8 per page plus supplies so base would be $400 plus supplies. Fancier pages are $10 per page and super-embellished are $12.

My prices are low for my area. The lady who owns my LSS starts her pages at $10 and goes up $5 per level. These prices do not include supplies. My old CM rep charged $1,000 plus per 30 page (60 total) for just her work - this did not include supplies.

I couldn't tell you if the price your mom paid was unreasonable without knowing what part of the country you are in and how much she paid.

Coming from you guys...it sounds average...I guess we just never really thought about how much it costs!

She did pay the lady right away, but she should have gotten an estimate before hand.

As a former pro - my guestimate would have been about $750.

I actually do scrapbooks for $. I charge about $300/album, $400 if I have to print the pictures.
