We will be going to Universal one day out of our WDW trip in March. I hate roller coasters, but DH loves them so I usually end up on them anyway. I need to know for those of you that have ridden the Mummy, and also roller coasters at WDW, how do they compare? Does it go upside down and shoot you off like RnR? Does it have extreme pressure and huge drops like EE? Is it jerky like Space Mntn? Is it mainly fast curves like BTMR? I need some comparisons to figure out if I can deal with this ride!! I have done all the big scary rides at WDW, even MS and ToT, so as long as it isn't WORSE, I will be okay. Also, I need some spoilers about what things I will see...I don't like scary things either! ;) So come on guys, give me some info.!!

It does start you off pretty fast but I don't think as fast as RNRC (or at least it doesn't feel as fast). But it doesn't go upside down or anything. It does have some good airtime though, which Everest does not. And it's pretty quick.. you'll be nervous the first time but I really think you'll want to get right back on it once it's over. Or at least that's the reaction it usually gets.

It's half dark ride/half rollercoaster. Completely fun. Don't worry!

It does speed up like RnRC, but not nearly as fast.
Never goes upside down.
Part of it is in the dark and part of it is backwards.
All of it is very smooth. Nothing like the WDW Space Mountain.

I am a huge coaster chicken also. My DH talked me into riding the Mummy and I loved it. I think that it goes fast but I really can't compare it to much. I did ride BTMR at Disney this year also. It was a fun ride too. Couldn't get up the nerve to do Space Mountain but will try it next time.

I am afraid of coasters and it takes a lot of persuasion before I'll go on...I am too chicken to go on RnRC and I will never again go on ToT (too scary!! and I hate the drops!!); I loce Space Mountain and Thunder Mountain and hate the Splash Mountain drop, but do it anyways. Having said that, I was definitely thinking I would not go on "The Mummy" at Universal, but I love the movie so much I tried it...and LOVED IT!! If you've done the WDW coasters, you really will be fine. It's very short (too short); SPOILER (I also like to know what's coming, so that I can enjoy the ride): The beginning sets up the story and so you basically go from "set" to "set"; a bit jerky, but nothing coaster-ish. Then the ending part is the coaster part and it's just so well done (although very, very short); it's mostly turns (I think) and one or two drops, but nothing anywhere near Splash Mountain.

It was worth our whole trip to Universal and IOA for this ride and Spiderman!!

Thanks! You guys are making me feel better. Any other explanations and spoilers will be appreciated! Does the story have really scary images at all? I mean, I would assume they are from the movie, so I will have seen them already, but are they really gross, or scary excerpts? Scarab beetles eating you or anything?

No...the beetles are only seen for a minute or two...I think it adds to the excitement of the ride. Personally, I don't think there are any scary images in the ride but that's me. I think you'll have a great time!

I used to be a roller-coaster chicken, but I'm not now. I wouldn't describe the Mummy as really "scary." It does have a spooky "feel" to it because the premise is that you're at the mercy of the Mummy from the start. I don't want to give the ride away completely, but you'll do a bit of a "take-off" going uphill. The fast part of the ride has a lot of twists and turns (kind-of like Space Mountain), but I think you can see a little better. There's also a bit of a suprise close to the end of the ride.

No inversions on this one. I'd venture to say that the fastest parts of this ride are like Big Thunder Mountain...maybe a little faster. There is one drop, but you're going downhill from a stop (it's not bad).

Fun, fun, fun ride, though!

The ride is more cool than scary. Lots of atmosphere, and if all the AA's and effects are working, its an amazing ride. Lots of stuff pops out at you, and the backward track is only for a few feet....and not very steep. The beetles are just a projected image, though sometimes they do drip water from the ceiling to simulate it. The launch itself I think is about 44 mph.....about the same as HULK, and a lot slower than RRC (which is about 68?). It does have a lot of airtime and a good surprise at the end.
In comparison to RRC:
Its in the dark...there's noise...it launches.....
It does not invert (go upside down) it isnt right off the bat intense...its more a dark ride with a coaster element. The AA's arent intense and you get to see them a little more than the Yeti. The backwards portion is small, and not up a helix like EE is. The drop is nowhere near as steep as EE though it is just about as tall.....just not as steep...and I wont tell you where in the ride it is.........but its not super scary as EE's is.
Its really a fun ride, and the most frights come from you own mind getting yourself worked up. Give it a chance.

Thanks again for all your input! I think I'm fully prepared enough to ride it now without being scared of it. Thanks again!

I went on this on 12/16 and it scared me, not the special effects, but the actual coaster parts.:scared1: I really don't like roller coasters at all, even the flying unicorn :sad2: bothered me. I wanted to see what it was like. I'm glad I did, but I will never go again. Hubby loved it. Going back next month.:woohoo: Just try it, you might love it.

I am a HUGE coaster chicken and I tried it in October. It scared me the first time because I didn't know what to expect. I made myself get on it again and now I love it!!!! Its my favorite ride at USF (with the exception of Spiderman). I can compare it so SM only not as jerky. There is a launch but its not that bad. You will LOVE IT!!!!:cool1:

Oh I loved the flying unicorn! I giggled through the whole thing.:rotfl:

I'm a coaster chicken too but am looking forward to riding the Mummy!:yay:

I'm sure you'll enjoy ROTM..it's a blast! Then...maybe...you can work your way up to the bigger coasters. The world would be VERY boring w/o coasters!

LOLOLOL

I don't mind drops but refuse to do anything that will turn me upside down!!! :rotfl2:

I can't do SM, ToT, nor M:S, and I was able to go on ROTM. Thunder Mountain is the only coaster I can handle at WDW. ROTM is different from TM in that it's indoors, has really good special effects and is a real smooth track. I think it's a little faster, too, but it didn't make me as dizzy as TM does. Maybe less circles?

A bad ride can ruin a week for me, and I was easily able to do ROTM. I couldn't go on it over and over, but once is good :)

Another ROTM fan here, as is DD. Next time I'm going to get my roller-coaster-chicken DH and DS to ride this, because I think they could both handle it and would love it.

If you want a very detailed, scene-by-scene description of this ride, check out Kelly Monaghan's book. It is available at many large bookstores (e.g., I saw it at my local Borders and B&N) as well as amazon.

One of my favorite things to do is find someone that obviously is very skeptical about the ride that I'm going on.....ya know, someone who's a chicken, and is wondering about the intensity of the ride? Then I make comments that make it worse. I literally had one guy so worked up about there being a loop on ROTM that he was fighting getting on the ride. The CM's were telling him to either get on or move out of the way, and he was arguing that he didnt want to get on.......I felt kind of bad about that one......but he did get on and calm down. Its all mental.
