Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess Half Marathon Weekend)- thread #2

Thanks everyone for your thoughts on what to wear given the weather.

The 10 day forecast keeps creeping up, so I'm guessing it's going to lean towards warm, but still planning on a couple options, including a throwaway top layer.

See ya real soon!

Runner tracking is up, but it's a new way of signing up to get updates. I made a new account. But it's still not letting me get updates. It's chronotrack now. I have an account. Yet it's telling me I'm unauthorized. What a mess!!

Help - I can feel myself getting sick and I don't know what to do. I have sinus pressure and tickling in the back of my throat. Do I load up on ginseng and echinacea to try and make it go away or is it too late? Should I just embrace it and hope it goes away in the next week? I am cognizant of the reasons to avoid antibiotics when there may not absolutely be a need, but I am wondering if I should preemptively get some meds to squash it?

I am doing the GSC - running the 10K and then probably run/walking the half with my mom. And I have two small kids who are looking forward to an active vacation at WDW from February 20 to March 1st, so I can't just make it through next weekend, I need to be healthy for the following week as well.

I don't know what to do!

so sorry - Me too. Woke up two days ago with the scratchy throat and told myself all day that I wasn't getting sick... well, guess what... it's your basic cold. Antibiotics won't do anything if it's a virus, so, like everyone else said. Eat well, and rest.

Mine has already landed in my chest. I wanted to get in a run this weekend, but I think staying healthy is the better part of valor, and I'm going to just rest. We head to Disney on Sunday, so I'm hoping the nice humid air and warmth will kick this cold in the butt.

On a side note - is there any way to know which characters will be on the racecourse and where? I get a bit of tunnel vision, and I would really like to get at least a couple of pictures this year, so I don't want to miss them.

Yep. Same thing. Created an account, even says my name as logged in, but then says I am unauthorized????

It recognized my email but then I couldn't remember my password, so after I had it reset, then it said it was merging accounts. All very odd. I had to do the 10K request twice because the first time it didn't email the confirmation to me.

For all you PHM newbies here are my top tips from one of last year's newbies :

Don't worry about being under trained! I too worried last year about did I do enough running, did I do enough cross training etc.etc.etc. you know what ? I finished ! My longest run was 10 miles and much of my training on the TM. YOU CAN DO THIS !::cheer2:

Buy your commemorative " I DID IT" shirt....you will be amazed what a conversation starter it is and how many people will congratulate you on this great accomplishment ! And then buy all the other commemorative stuff you want...:lmao:

Be sure and hydrate really well before ( and after !) your races ! I remember Cripey posting "H" is for hydrate on the sat before last year's race and how that made me smile ! Believe DH and I had at least 100+ ounces of water and Gatorade the day before the race to make sure our output was.....hmmmm....pale yellow as instructed by our running coach !

I won't be doing this year's race with you since I will be jetting off to Hawaii....but I will be reading all the post to cheer on your accomplishments !

Best of luck and remember ...if you dream it you can do it !!

Thank you for that encouragement!!

I will be running in the 5K... my first one EVER!! I was so out of shape I wanted to push myself and "reward" myself by trying to do a 5K. What better place than DISNEY!!??? Mid-January 2013 I stepped on the TM to see how long it would take me to finish a 5K at that point. 72 minutes later....:rolleyes1

Needless to say, I had a lot of work to do. It has been a rough year of sickness and injuries. BUT, I am determined to do this... shin splints and all! My best time on the TM has been 56 min. a week ago. Not great. Not where I wanted to be. And not in the condition I had hoped to be.

I may not reach all my goals, but at almost 47 years old.... I'm trying! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

My wonderful DH has encouraged me along the way, helped coach me through injuries, and listened to me whine. He will be running (more like walking very fast ) to help me keep pace and cheer me on.

I'm looking forward to the whole experience! :cheer2:

Good for you! You have a great attitude, and I'm sure this will be an amazing experience for you. I can't quite describe he feeling of accomplishment when you cross a finish line for the first time.

Hmm. I do not like the new runner tracking interface. I may be stuck in the last decade, but I liked the option to get e-mail updates that we used to have. I don't really want my phone pinging with a text every time a friend passes a timing mat while I'm also running the race, but I did like having the option to pull out my phone and check my email for that info.

You will rock it! :cheer2: :cheer2:

One of the things I love about Disney races is that these are the events people reward themselves with, myself included :rotfl2:. Last year, with my first half marathon. Never, never, never, thought I would be able to make 13 miles - but I did, and had so much fun I wanted to do it again.

You will be great, have a fabulous time, and be so proud of yourself for getting out there. I am amazed by all of the incredible women on this board. You all are a huge inspiration! You go girls! :yay: :yay:

I'm with you! I have friends that don't text, so e-mail was perfect. Now, you can only enter 3 phone numbers, as well. We shall see how this goes.

Only three? Oh dear that is not going to work for me. Would having my husband create his own account to track me work around that?

Ill have to figure it out tomorrow though. Valentines day has done what Christmas could not! I've got things going on allllll day long. No running for me today. :(

Finally going to make my tutu tomorrow. Hopefully it turns out well though with the weather forecast I'm slightly nervous about it. I'm sure ill change my mind after going to the ballet on Saturday. If I can't be a ballerina, at least I can be a runner in a tutu!

It's also laundry and packing weekend since we leave during the week, and I can't seem to get anything accomplished after work and school and running and... Yay!!!! I generally hate packing except packing for a Disney trip! I'm so excited!!!! DH thinks I'm a bit too hyper about the whole thing but come on, it's been snowing for the last 3 months and so cold it might as well be arendale!

I am sending big cheers for you! It is so great to set a goal and go for it!

And you will get that great 5K T-shirt. : )

Happy Valentine's Day everyone.

Good for you on setting a goal and going for it! Cheers to you. Have fun and have a great race :)

I am starting to panic a little. My family is running the 5k but the boys won't be flying down until Thursday night. I have older DS's waivers signed but younger DS's isn't up yet (he registered just this week). He is away at college and if I can't print it and get it signed soon, we may be in trouble.

The best of luck to you!! A 5K is an incredible accomplishment, and you can absolutely do this.:thumbsup2

Finally got my tracking done. I had two tabs going to get it done…I was signed in at the Chronotrack web site…it has no link to races and signed in going throughout the runDisney site…which has links to race. It wouldn't let me sign in for tracking when I was just signed in through the runDisney site. Crazy and as another said, I wish they had email updates.

I got 8 miles in today and that is it for me. I will do a couple short easy runs, probably on Sunday and Tuesday. I ran hard today, on the TM and am sore in the shoulders and lower back from shoveling snow yesterday so taking it easy until next weekend.

The mall is opening at noon today, so DH and I are going to see Frozen and have lunch. The ten inches of snow here is more than these southerns can handle. No one shovels their walks or driveways and the freezing temps. at night lead to difficult travel (on foot or by car) in the mornings.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Only three? Oh dear that is not going to work for me. Would having my husband create his own account to track me work around that?

Yes. Each account is restricted to 3 phone numbers but there is no cap on how many numbers can follow individual runners as long as they are different accounts if that makes sense.
