Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess Half Marathon Weekend)- thread #2

So, I cannot believe how many posts you guys have put up in a week's time! Seriously... I left for a four-day meeting in Dallas last Tuesday, and the last page available at that time was 52. We're now 20 pages ahead!! Finally caught up - phew! :)

I feel like I've reached a point of acceptance with what I've achieved in training. I didn't run nearly as far as I wanted - only 8.5 at this point - with health issues and ridiculous work demands piling up. And then last week in Dallas, absolutely no time or opportunity to train with a too full hotel gym and obligations well into every evening. I'm afraid to run my goal of 10 at this point for fear of injury so close to the race, so I'm listening to my body and doing what feels good. On Sunday, it was a tougher than usual 5 miles at a 14:00 pace - yikes. Yesterday, it was a really great 3 miles at a 13:00 pace. Tomorrow will be another run, and I'm hoping for another strong one that motivates me to just keep on going. Sunday will be my last big run before the trip - trying to figure out how much I want to try to fit in before leaving Thursday morning.

I think I finally have my gear figured out, too. UA black capris with my yellow Sparkle Skirt (for Belle!), and a white tank top. Nothing too crazy, but I want to be comfy with a little fun. :) I do need to figure out what I'm wearing over the tank while it's cool, but kinda waiting to see what the weather is going to look like (and right now, it's looking nice and warm). I'll most likely just bring one of my older hoodies and leave it for donation once it gets warm enough for just the tank.

I DID get my new FlipBelt today! Question for those who have worn them before - I'm right in between sizes, so I ordered up. It fits snugly and most comfortably pulled down to my hips a bit, but I'm afraid it's going to ride up. I'll do a trial run with it tomorrow - wondering if I should order a size down so that it fits more snugly around my waist (and where the Sparkle Skirt waistband will hit).

Lastly... I'd so love to meet up with you guys at DTD on Saturday, but my friend and I already have plans to be in MK, and I kinda want to be back at the resort early evening for bed. I'll be at Pasta in the Park on Friday night, and the Race Retreat for Sunday. And, of course, in Corral M. :goodvibes

Can't. Wait. :woohoo:

Help - I can feel myself getting sick and I don't know what to do. I have sinus pressure and tickling in the back of my throat. Do I load up on ginseng and echinacea to try and make it go away or is it too late? Should I just embrace it and hope it goes away in the next week? I am cognizant of the reasons to avoid antibiotics when there may not absolutely be a need, but I am wondering if I should preemptively get some meds to squash it?

I am doing the GSC - running the 10K and then probably run/walking the half with my mom. And I have two small kids who are looking forward to an active vacation at WDW from February 20 to March 1st, so I can't just make it through next weekend, I need to be healthy for the following week as well.

I don't know what to do!

Antibiotics will do NOTHING for you if you don't have a bacterial infection. I'm also sick with a bad cold, the only good thing about it is that it's this week and not next! Between the horrible weather and being sick, my last two training weeks have been pretty well decimated. Just hang in there unless you think you're getting a bacterial infection, take OTC meds and thanks your lucky starts it's not next week!

I don't know what to do!

First I would start with warm salt water gargles, 3 times a day. I would drink plenty of clear juice, and eat a good canned salty chicken noodle soup for lunch and get plenty of nutritious food. Hot herbal tea in the afternoon and get a full 8 hours of sleep at night. This is what I tell my adult kids the minute they text they aren't feeling well. Also a mouth wash with alcohol is good and soak your toothbrush in some or get a new one.

Hi All, I'm SO confused about what to wear for the race.

Normally I'd wear capris and a tank, but I'm worried about being too cold.

I'm a walker and get cold fairly easily, and I know I can bring a throwaway shirt but am worried I'll be cold the whole race.

Guess I should pack all options and make a game day decision?

Everything I've seen says a high of 80 and a low of 60...so I'm planning on wearing a SparkleSkirt with nothing underneath, but I'm used to wearing shorts for anything 50 and over. I'm definitely not afraid of being cold!

If you have the room in your luggage, though, definitely bring options, since weather predictions are notoriously wrong!

I get so hot when I run! I have done 27 degree weather with short sleeves!

I am trying to prevent getting sick, since everyone at work is. Lots of Emergen-C and Zicam for this girl!

Me too! If the forecast says 60, I will definitely be in shorts and a tank top. Especially in Florida. Gotta keep our eyes on the humidity though. 60 in 40% humidity is much different from 60 with 90% humidity!

Snowing...again. *LE SIGH*...:rolleyes1

1. W-A-R-M-T-H. Seriously, can not wait for balmy tropical breezes and will not complain about a hot and sweaty race.

I totally agree!!!! SOOOOO sick of the snow and FRIGID temps in New England that I don't even think a heat advisory race would upset me at this point :scratchin

And you know what really gets me? That I haven't been outside for a run since early November with this weather, but the day I fly to WDW, we're forecasted to hit 46 degrees! But it's ok - when I land, it'll be in the 70s. Ahhhhhh... :)

And last year we started in 70 with 95% humidity…awful

I'll be there! Thank you! (And him!)

Any time!
I will be the short brunette with 3 boys and a girl. LOL
I will try to find my BernardandMissBianca mickeyhead tag to wear.

I don't know what to do!

Nettie pot, hot tea, throat drops and spray, warm broths to keep things moving. We are battling the same thing here and it just seems to be a really bad cold. Oh and if you have sinus pressure put hot wet wash clothes on your face, I have found that that helps to release the pressure. I also gave DS13 tylenol sinus and congestion (has the cough too).

Amen Sister!!! I think I might defrost by Sunday. I'm kind of woohooing that fact that I run next to the boiler in the basement, it keeps things pretty warm down there.

One week and one hour from today I will be heading to the Expo!!!

As a Floridian who chills easily*, I highly recommend bringing a variety of light layers and making a game day decision! Though at the rate things are going down here, I strongly suspect it'll be a warm race again.

*(Last year, with that 70-degree, 95% humidity start? I was in capris and a sweatshirt. ;) Ditched the sweatshirt right before the start, but I was comfy in capris and a short sleeve shirt throughout the race.)

Help - I can feel myself getting sick and I don't know what to do. I have sinus pressure and tickling in the back of my throat.
Possible that it's allergies? I ask because the pollen counts here in FL are - literally - off the charts; I've had sinus pressure and a tickly throat for days, even with allergy meds.

If it is a cold, I don't think there's a whole lot you can do, other than get plenty of sleep and eat well. No point in antibiotics if it's not a bacterial infection and taking them unnecessarily can just leave you susceptible to other nastiness. Hope you feel better quickly!

UGH...sounds like you're getting "THE ICK". Had it back in January, did not go on antibiotics. My mucus discharge stayed clear (sorry to gross anyone out) - as long as you're clear, there's no infection. REST, lots and lots and lots of warm liquids (green tea worked wonders for me), the nasal rinse with warm saline and running the humidifier constantly really helped me cut down on the duration.

Take care of yourself now...you're doing GSH, so you're healthy. Taking the time to now to get proper rest and nutrition will pay big time in just over a week.

Feel better soon!!!

No no no no NO!!!!! I have awful allergies which then exacerbate my asthma. I'll take the heatwave over pollen! At least now that I know how better to handle it (sloooooooowwwwwww down and resist the urge to drink TOO much water).

What happened to the magic bubble that Disney usually has over the entire WDW to keep out all of the bad weather/bugs/craziness???

Seriously though, thanks for the info. I'll be sure to find my inhaler (haven't needed that in a long while) and bring it with me. Along with lots and lots of body glide. Sheesh at this rate I'm going to need roll along suitcase instead of a fuel belt. :rotfl2:

Also, while I'm asking for favors from Mother Nature, I'd like to put in a request to put a pause on all this nasty weather business for at least the next 2 weeks so that we can all have on-time and safe flights. Thank you.... :)

I'll take the advice! I usually pack very light, and consider the trip a success if I've worn everything in my suitcase and not needed anything else. But this time, I'm bringing a number of different items that I may or may not wear. It's tough to remember what a certain temp/humidity feels like when it's the middle of the winter with single digit temps. Even our week in California last month didn't really prepare me - so different with the humidity and inland!

:rotfl: Right?! I will say that at almost any time of year, my allergies are better at WDW than home, so there's that at least. I take Zyrtec daily all year, but I'm using Flonase daily, too, now. And for sure - the inhaler is a MUST before every run lately. Which means carrying it through the whole dang race, just to be able to use it 15 minutes before the start. :headache: I wish there was a disposable, 2-puff option!

:thumbsup2 I'll second that request!

If it makes you feel better, I live here and I still bring a gazillion different options, lol! There's a chasm of difference even between 60, sunny and dry vs. 60, cloudy and damp. I've never once regretted having choices available. :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone for all the advice and well-wishes! It's definitely not allergies because everything here is frozen solid, but I'm hoping to kick whatever it is in the next week. I will take your advice and power through - no germs are allowed to ruin this vacation!

Ahhhh my thoughts exactly!!!! It was -14 degrees when I went to work yesterday morning (and I work outside!) and today we are getting a huge snowstorm. Average highs for the PHM weekend? 50 degrees...of course

That is a BRILLIANT idea!

Just went to register my three boys and my husband for the ChEAR Squad and turns out it was an easy decision, because Gold is now sold out. They only plan to meet me at the finish, so that's OK. Still decided to get the silver package for our three boys - they're always festive, so I think they will have fun with the t-shirts, blankets and clappers! Anyone know what the ChEAR Squad shirts will look like this year?
