Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess Half Marathon Weekend)- thread #2

20411 and C for GSC!! :cheer2:

I did 8 miles yesterday with almost no IT band pain in my hip! Just a little tightness, but overall it felt really good and I'm thrilled that the stretching/rolling seems to really be helping. :goodvibes

We're almost there! Only 19 days til I leave wooo! SO EXCITED!! :yay:

I'm 20413!

I was looking at corrals and that only puts 1000 starters ahead of us for the half so it should be fine. I struggled the last half of race last year with the heat, hope it is cooler this year, I went from running 9mm to over 10mm. Anyway my point is I finished around 1600 last year so probably right where I should be.

Got my corral - about where I thought I'd end up - looking at course map and wondering if anyone can tell me where you can just motor along so I can save a few moments for a character photo or two? Looks like miles 1-3 and 7-10 would be good. Of course, I may be crawling by then if my hip doesn't let up:-/

Yes. 1- 3, plus it gets you going. There is usually something set up in the MK parking lot. A large photo ops. It has been the evil princesses the last few years. There has been a pirate set around mile 3 and LOTS of people stop, but you will past it on the return trip and can wait to try for a photo then. Not much after the cheering at the TTC until the MK, although there are a few narrow areas. Once in MK the crowds are huge on Main Street and then character shots starting in Tomorrowland through park and on into the back stage area. Then some running and near the golf course more people and sometime golf mickey and the men dressed up and proposing. Then about every mile or so until mile 10 and the dreaded uphill on ramp. Not much more until Epcot and at mile 13, my personal favorite, the gospel choir. Mickey, minnie or some one will be at the finish line.
Hope that helps.

Corall I! Very happy about this. I will probably not finish in the expected time, but I will finish. I have 4 bulging discs in my back (just found out yesterday), having an injection on the 7th, so hopefully it will calm things down for the race.

Course maps and corral info is up, though no official waiver link yet.

Yay! Thanks for posting about this:)

So excited to see the course maps confirmed and get the corral placement for GSC (F for me). There is no corral placement for the 5k correct?

Question, I am about 2000 spots and one corral behind my mom, who has a slower proof of time (by about 4-5 min). I updated my proof of time and got the confirmation that my info has been updated, but now I'm not so sure seeing my bib number. I emailed the track shack disney email (where I emailed my updated proof of time back in November). Is that the correct email to address this? I need all the cushion possible as I was just diagnosed with peroneal tendonitis in my right foot yesterday, and don't know how the rest of training is going to go. :headache: TIA!

Glad I found this thread better late than never! This will be my first Disney race and my first race longer than a 5k. I'm only doing the Enchanted 10k, so no corral for me yet! I'm getting very excited about also nervous about it!

You will be FINE!! I had done quite a few 5ks locally and last year my family decided to come down and join me to do a HUGE local 10k. I had bronchitis 2 weeks before the race and hadn't trained at all. I was super nervous and almost decided not to go but since it was a sentimental reason we were all doing it together I decided to go for it. We did awesome and it wasn't 'hard' at all ( maybe a little mentally at first,) but you get all that adrenaline going and its so fun! We finished with a good time considering my illness and lack of prep and I was so proud of myself! Good luck to you and have fun!!!

This time, I forgot to put my proof of time, and ended up in O...which i'm guessing was from my NOT so stellar time in the Wine & Dine. Oh well, i'm just doing it for fun anyway - I never stop for pics or restroom breaks, so i'm sure I will be fine. Just have to get there early to get up far in my corral. I'm excited to run (or walk, since i've heard it is super crowded) through the castle!! :cool1:

I'm in O as well because I forgot to submit my time. See you in the front. :thumbsup2

I could really use some encouragement. At this point, I'm not really interested in what my time will be, I just want to cross that finish line. Twice. ;)
Here's some: I had to quit running and walk all of the last 3 miles of the WDW Half a few weeks ago, and know what? It was really FUN! I didn't stop for any pics with characters, but for the first time in a long distance Disney race, I looked around, pulled over once or twice to take crowd pics, and enjoyed the surroundings. None of it is worth inviting injury, but if you're healthy, go slow and have a great time with it :thumbsup2

Do I need to be prepared with sunglasses?
Yes! Well, maybe not need, but you'll be happy to have them, I bet. ;)
Last year was overcast, but you never know and that time of day, the sun will be low, so brimmed hats won't do a lot.

HOORAY!!! I'm so glad to hear this!

Did you get a confirmation email reply when you submitted your time? I have every time I've sent PoT by email - they responded within a few days to say they'd updated my registration.

Yippeeeeee for corrals info!!!! :banana::banana::banana:
Corral I for GSC - perfect! :thumbsup2

Now... about those final instructions... :rotfl:

this year's donald half was SO crowded. when you get to the one lane areas, just have patience. and PLEASE don't run 4+ people in a line so that it's impossible to pass. i can't tell you how many people we saw LINKING ARMS during the race. :faint:

Perfect opportunity to play the old (dating myself) game "Red Rover", where you run as hard as you can and break through people's linked arms!

I'm in E for GSC. It says Elite and A are women only.. do you think men are allowed to start in B? Anyone have a male running with them that is higher than C?

I'm a little surprised that runDisney did this. In the past it was A and B that were women only, and that comprised about 6000 runners last year or ~25% of the field. This year, it's Elite and A, which comprises a total of around 500 runners (including half + GSC), or 2% of the field.

I'm in G. :yay:

Now I wish they would hurry up and post the race instructions. Hopefully it will give us an idea of when each corral will step off! Anyone look up what time the sun will come up on that morning? Do I need to be prepared with sunglasses?

You know, for marathon weekend I'm pretty sure they never did publish the start times for the corrals. It just occurred to me, I wonder if this is intentional to try to reduce people's fixation on the specific corrals and the time cushion each one might provide with regard to the pace requirements.

I'm in M! I didn't submit proof of time because I wasn't able to fit in any of the races around me before 12/1, so I'm pretty happy with M. :) How much time separates each corral?

Yeah, I did notice that they never published it for Marathon weekend. I'm totally type A though and would prefer to know. Not that I can't guesstimate, but I wouldn't mind so that I can visualize things like sunrise, and spectators. I'm going to assume 1-3 min for the first 3-4 corrals, then 3-4 min for the middle corrals, and maybe 3-5 for the last. So corral G would go at, 5:45-5:55. Its just more fun to know! :)

Having some training anxiety here. Was all ready to kick butt these last few weeks before GSC, especially after a fun Tink. I committed to not missing any runs, because Tink was harder than I wanted it to be. However, I'm starting to get a little inner-ankle pain on my right foot this week. In retrospect, perhaps I should have taken a little extra time to recover from Tink but I thought I was ok. Now I'm debating skipping one of my 4 runs this week, to make the rebuilding of mileage over the next 2 weeks more gradual and hopefully alleviate my pain. That had helped before. Or it could be my shoes. Perhaps I need to dig out a new pair.

Over vs. under training! I hate that debate!

Yay for Corral info! Boo that there is nothing for the 10K. lol

I am getting so excited! I can't wait!!

ETA: my Bib number is 33XXX Hopefully it is a lucky number!

I am in B. If any of you were around for the first Princess races, men were allowed in B. This change was made back to B for safety issues and proper corralling to some extent.
