Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess Half Marathon Weekend)- thread #2

So I am confused. Are yall saying that if you are doing GSC you will start in the back? That doesn't make sense.....or would 20,000 start at A?

The GSC bib numbers seem to all start with "20xxx".. not that they'd be in the back necessarily. It's just a way of distinguishing who is GSC who is half only 10k only etc. There's plenty of GSC people with super fast times that will start in early corrals and people with no proof of times all the way to the last corral.

Hello from very snowy SE Virginia!

Can I say that though it was not a Chamber of Commerce worthy picture this morning, the fact that the Virginia Beach oceanfront was snow covered all the way to the Atlantic was sooo cool!

No walking today. But I figured I "cross trained" by shoveling snow and helping the neighborhood kids build snow slides and forts. No work or school today...very cold, but so much fun!

I haven't been on the thread since Sunday afternoon, sure missed a lot! Couple of things I wanted to mention:

I am in for the meet up in DD Saturday afternoon, looking forward to it!

And on the RR: I looked at the cost when I originally signed up for PHM, but didn't see it worth the cost (I low carb, so I can't eat what they're offering food-wise). However, in reading the posts, I'm wondering if I should reconsider??

About to go check out the waiver details, but I figure to be towards the back (I submitted for 3:15 based on my Shamrock finish last March). Of course, I had a great 10 mi race finish in early December, but it was to late to submit that POT. Oh well, Murphy's Law proves right again!!!

I think I mentioned that a 9 mi race I was doing got postponed last weekend due to snow/ice conditions on the course. So they've rescheduled for this weekend, which I had planned for my 12 mile long and slow. So I think what I will do is a 2 mile warm up, followed by my 9 mile race, then a 1 mile cooldown. That way, I still do my 12 as planned this weekend, and can start tapering back. Although I'm doing a 14K the weekend of Valentine's Day, which is not optimal the week before PHM, but set myself a goal to complete 5 local races this year and the 14K is the first one. My coach gave me the gree light as long as I don't go out for a PR and just take it slow. It's just shy of 9 miles, so I figure if I take it easy (no more than 2-3 slow miles) a few days the week before PHM, I should be in good shape (and limber!) for the big day. Or am I crazy on crackers??

Keep the faith, ladies! Can't wait to see you all, especially at the finish line!!!!! :)

Got my bib number - 67xx. Trying to decide if that is a lucky number:tinker: Anybody have a guess of where this puts me?

Good luck with your training and races. Doing some of the VA beach area races are on my to do list soon!

Awesome! I highly recommend the Wicked 10K, had a total blast doing that!!

Thanks for the luck, told DH today that if PHM goes as well as I expect, my next far far away race needs to be RnR Dublin. How cool would it be to do RnR VB (even tho that race is ALWAYS hotter than Hades...I swore the last time I'd never do it again and now I'm considering it - KRAZY) anyway, RnR VB then RnR Dublin a month later. Almost as fun as PMH and then Shamrock 2 weeks later! :cool1:

Thanks to those who ask questions. You often are asking questions others of us have as well.

I too was out with injury for 5 weeks (end of November and all of December), and was thinking about trying to max out at 12 before the race. My husband is deployed right now and if my daughter doesn't cooperate with bedtime, it's hard for me to get my treadmill run in as it's in the garage. She didn't go to sleep til midnight Monday when I planned on getting 8 miles in. I was going to try to do 8 tomorrow if it warms up enough to go in the garage (we've been in the 20s and 30s here in the Gulf South), and then try to do two 5 mile runs this weekend, then 12 the following weekend, but I think I'm going to cap off at 10 thanks to the great question and great advice from this great group! I may still try to do the back to back runs this weekend just to give my body one shot at a back to back effort. Maybe I'll finally get caught up on Sherlock season two! :)

Hi! I know I am late jumping in but I'm more of a lurker till show time. This is my first half and first WDW race. I am going it alone! The race itself, but my family will be there to cheer me on. Staying at POFQ.

I'm really getting excited!

Best of luck! But trust me, you are not going it alone! Runners are some of the greatest people! I always find strangers to talk to while waiting for the races to start! I'm also staying at POFQ!

So, my mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and I all submitted estimated PHM finishing times of 3:15:00 (with no proof of time) and all got 95xx bib numbers. I wonder what that means. Can't wait to see the corrals!

Thanks for posting the waver link!:thumbsup2
I also entered 3:15 as a time and my bib is 14 xxx

awesome!! What is your costume? Btw aren't you the princess with the snarky friend with the quotes? Did she run with you yet?

That's me. Invited her to run and she said she ran half marathons and 5Ks and didn't care for running. That's a big fat whatever!! I'm going as Jesse. What about you?

Hey there! I'm doing GSC. I did PHM last year and finished in 3:18 with plenty of picture stops. I had the best time. I was SOO looking forward to GSC, and I still am..however a little concerned. I had a complete tear to my acl in the summer. Tomorrow marks 5 months since my acl reconstruction surgery. I went through 16 weeks of physical therapy afterwards. I am determined to complete both these races. I couldn't really start training until the beginning of jan. My Ortho said no running for at least 8 months. I'm able to run with no discomfort, but really don't want to risk injuring the work that was done. My new acl is a cadaver and I've been told it takes a good year for it to "bond with my body." Anyway, I'm disappointed. It's not like I was fast before, but I could comfortably keep a 13/mile pace. This year I'm struggling just to maintain a 15/mile. I did 3 yesterday and 8 miles today. Next week I will attempt 6miles followed by 10 the next day. If I can do that, I will probably feel a bit better about the GSC.

Obviously when I paid the $288 for this, I did not anticipate doing it coming out of this injury. And it's not really my style to not go through with something I committed to. I could really use some encouragement. At this point, I'm not really interested in what my time will be, I just want to cross that finish line. Twice. ;)

Thanks for the link to find the bib numbers and waivers. I printed out mine and my mom's. We are both non-time submitters. We did both get to do "early registration" via DVC, so we registered on the Saturday before the general public registration. I was hoping that would keep us out of the very last corral, and I'm suspecting it has since I see folks in the 15xxx and 16xxx. We have back to back bib numbers 129XX. I do think this race sees a lot more walkers and non-time submitting folks than most other races.

Been snowed in here!! Looks like a high of 50° for Friday. Can't wait to run outside!!!

I can't access the waiver/bib number link at work! Is there another link I can try or can someone look me up? I'm pretty sure I'm one of the only "Jeanne's" in the GSC!

Wow you're a fighter! It's not my style to break a commitment too, but if you look at the big picture, this is only one race (ok two) and if your body is not ready, and you push it and you hurt yourself worse, it is not worth it! So there is no shame in listening to your body and your doctor and scientific reasoning. That being said, what is your bib number? Perhaps your corral placement will give you enough cushion that your 15mm will get you through. Maybe don't do the back to back training right now though and just focus on training with no discomfort. I'm not a coach, but I am a runner who dealt w training and injuries a lot. It's a fine line of balance to find between training enough and overtraining.

Congratulations on your comeback from surgery! Very inspiring!

I walked Tink with my parents and with 3 bathroom stops and a very congested course we finished in a 15:30 pace. My tip to you is don't stop for pics with characters! I took a couple pics one of them being in front of the castle the other Small World all lit up. Lots of people got swept because they stopped in really long lines for characters. Also try and wait until you can find a bathroom with a small line. I found one in DL that had no line just around the corner where mass people were waiting for another one. Also, Try and get to the corrals early so you can get to the front. If you can hold a 15min pace now you will be fine! I'm also a blown out ACL gal (both knees) from years ago. Tink was my 16th half! Dig Deep, Michele

Thanks for the link for the waivers, I would never have found them otherwise!

Doing only the PHM, with a 2:45 proof of time from last year's Disney Half, and my bib is 2545... DH, with the same proof of time is 6235. Now, I registered early, within the first couple of days that it was open.

Last year I was in one of the last corrals for the Disney Half, maybe G or H, and it felt like it took FOREVER to walk to the corral, we actually barely made it before the start of the race.

So, if I am in an earlier corral - like C or D, what time should I plan on leaving my resort (Beach Club)? I do have race retreat, and so would like to stop in there for a bite to eat. I don't feel like I did a good job of morning of pre-race planning last year, and wanted to do better this year.

Thanks all!

Men aren't allowed in the first 2-3 corrals at Princess, so that may explain your husband's number.

yay Jesse! I want to be her for one of the fall races. For this race, I have a provincial Belle outfit and a backup Minnie themed outfit. Belle look needs some tweaking.
