Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess Half Marathon Weekend)- thread #2

Since I posted right before the thread closed:

Yesterday was my longest training run to date...14.55 miles! It felt pretty good, but toward the end and afterward, my legs were sore. I put on compression pants after my shower, wore them all day, then slept in them. I am still sore this morning. Does anyone have any advice?
Good job!!! :thumbsup2 I'm always sore after a long run; it just comes with the distance for me. Movement is always a good way to deal with it; walk, swim, an easy run. Rolling and stretching, for sure, self-massage at the spots giving you trouble. Hot baths are a must for me, too.

No panicking!

I also have been plauged with injuries.
Recovered from clavacle fracture in October (no surgery)
Sprained Right ankle November (R.I.C.E)
Sprained Right ankle 2 days ago! (R.I.C.E so far ok)
Thank god injuries were not so severe however, taking it easy on the ankle and wrapping it up for my next walk/jog. More like walk 15mm.

Just did the minnie 10K and another 10K Monday (result of ankle sprain). :(

Hoping to get in at least a 9 mile in before the 23rd of Feb. Then I'll be ok.
Yikes, that's a lot to deal with! Glad to hear you're on the mend :thumbsup2

I'm doing all three races, so I'll use the 5k to get familiar with the procedures and to get any pictures, since it's not timed. The 10k I hope to stay right around the 15 mm mark so I can get through the half. I've done some 5k but this is my first half!
I think that's a fantastic plan! This will be my third half, but I'm planning to do about the same - easy on the 5K and 10K, hoping that leave me with enough energy for the half.

I got cleared from the ortho today to start running again after looking at my MRI, so hopefully Princess will be a little less painful than Tink was (even though it was super fun!).
Yay! :cheer2:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm still hanging in there. After a week off entirely, I did a very slow 3 mile trail walk/run with my son last weekend - it went well; no knee pain during, though it was a little ow-y later in the evening. Added a little more running to a walk Tues. with no issues, so I'll aim to do the same tonight. This weekend will be 4 miles Sat. and 9-10 Sun.... :scared:
Oh, and I've been trying new shoes. Again. :rotfl2: Reviews to come soon-ish. ;)
on the email confirmation from active.com, there's a link that says "View your complete registration details"
it's on there.
I totally forgot I even had that email! Haha. Thank you!!! (And I picked Punzy, which is perfect as my friend and I are planning on running as Suzy and Perla)
Going solo to the PHM so if anyone needs a walk jog buddy let me know I'll be with the 15mm pace corral. This is my 4th Half and 1st PHM.
I'll be right there with you at around that pace. Stay safe!
Costume question:
Anyone dressing like Belle from Beauty and the Beast? I think I'm going to get this skirt
http://sparkleskirts.com/products/lemoncrush
but I am having a harder time finding a nice yellow shirt to go with it. Most of the yellows I am finding are more florescent. Any suggestions? I'm a size small and would prefer something with short sleeves, but willing to consider a tank top. Thanks! :)
oh boy.... not the shoe hunt again! :rotfl: good luck!
I skipped my planned run this morning as apparently I needed some sleep (slept right through my alarm...s....). gonna have to get it in tonight. hopefully this weekend I can finally catch up and fully recover from Tink.
4 weeks to go! yay!:cheer2:
Ugh...one of my co-workers graced us with her germiness last week and the beginning of this and now 3 of us are dealing with what I refer to as "the ICK".
Chest congestion, coughing, sore throat from the coughing, headache..."ICK"!
This is my first time dealing with something like this while training for a race. How do you deal? I did take yesterday off as a rest day, snow + ice + "high" temp in the low 20s does not equal fabulous road training conditions.
Here's what I'm looking at for this week:
Sat 1/18: 10 miles
Sun 1/19: 4 miles plus a racewalking technique mini clinic
Mon 1/20: 4.5 miles (and it was 60+degrees and I was in shorts and a t-shirt. KID YOU NOT)
Tue 1/21: 3.1 miles (got it in before Old Man Winter belted us)
I'm hoping to be in good enough shape when I get off work to do an aerobics w/weights session as a crosstrain. However, I have a 9 mi race bright and early Saturday AM. Do I work out tonight? Skip the race Saturday? What would you do???
Thanks in advance, ladies!!
I am going as Belle but doing the provincial look instead of the yellow bc of this same reason but I just saw Lands End has a new tech line with a yellow shirt - have a look. I would get it but already have the blue apron/jumper.
That skirt is ADORABLE...would you consider a gold colored shirt or maybe even finding a blue that would make the sparkles on the skirt "pop"?
I'm going as Belle too! I bought a sparkle skirt from Rock City skirts and found a short sleeve tech shirt at target a few months ago. It's not exactly the color I wanted but it isn't neon (more like big bird yellow lol). I have a sparkly soul headband in gold and am considering a tiara or a red rose clip too. Not sure if target still has the same tops but worth a look.. I think it's champion brand?
You're welcome!
The pilot and the first episode of season 1 got me thru my 10 miles on Sunday! I actually went a little longer because I wanted to see the end of the first episode! :)
Now I can't stop humming the theme song...
I hear ya'! LOL!! I ordered my set last night... express ship so that I have it this weekend!! :thumbsup2
I hadn't seen Rock City before--they have some REALLY cute stuff! I love that holiday elf one--will need to keep that in mind if I run in any Christmas time races! Thanks! :)
Thanks! Gold would be a great option! The only thing about blue--do you think that would make it more like a snow white costume? I could change to that---Belle is my favorite but snow white is a close second...Then I could wear a Raw Threads red bow head band...Hmmmm
I didn't know that Lands End has a new tech line! Thanks for the info! I think that shirt could probably work!:thumbsup2
Had some "ickk" last week. 1/12 would have been a great day to run outside, but when I got home from church I fell asleep on the couch. Over slept the next morning (1/13) but still did a hard speed drill workout when I got up. Then my body started aching all over and I had a funny little cough. By Tuesday morning I felt sick to my stomach so rested and then did a stretch yoga on Wednesday morning and on Thursday had a small case of vertigo..rest again. Felt a bit better on Friday morning so I did a slow 5 mile run/walk. I rested Saturday and ran easy on Sunday (1/19) afternoon. Yesterday I did a hard 5K and today a pretty good 10k and tomorrow I am looking to do 10 miles…I'm running all 3 event so I am just getting a feel for it.
Anyway, after all that info…I say LISTEN to your body. A few days off now are better than overdoing and taking longer to get over the "ick". If your body is trying to fight off some thing now, let it work and don't wear yourself out with extra. Get plenty of rest, fluids and eat well. Now I sound like a mom, oh I am, and still get calls from my kiddos when they don't feel well. I like to included some good salty canned chicken noodle soup and plenty of juice. Then I wash all the sheets and towels, spray lysol and soak my toothbrush in mouthwash or get a new one.
Wash your hands! and stay healthy girls!
Hi everyone! :wave2: I've been bad and haven't been in here; I was just doing the Tink thread. Anyways, I'm in for the 5k and GSC. I get in early Thurs and leave post race on Sun.
Hope everyone's training is going well!
Hi to all of my fellow Princesses!
My SIL and I will be doing the 5K together for the second year. My DH and oldest son will be joining us this year. Last year, since it was our first 5k, we just focused on running and didn't stop for pictures. This year we want to actually enjoy the race more and will be stopping.
Does anyone know which characters are hanging around the backdrops after the race for pictures? We didn't go back there last year and I was disappointed when I saw that Merida was there. She is my favorite and I never want to wait in the long line for a picture with her in MK.
Hi guys! Ok the "Where are you staying thread is all updated. I know a few of you have posted here, but I won't take any info off this thread to add to the list until you post it on the "official" hotel list. That way I know you want to be added. We have over 80 people on it so it is a good source of info! Please PM me or add put it on this thread… also please include what races you are doing (PHM, GSC, pink C2C, etc)
I got something from JcPenney on-line that was a regular yellow color. It was on clearance a few weeks ago. Not sure if it would still be there or not.
I'm going as Belle for the half too! And was planning on buying that SparkleSkirt too, or just the plain yellow one (I'll be wearing a tutu over whichever one I pick). I'm in Canada and nice tech shirts that aren't stupidly expensive are hard to find so I ordered a few options online from Team Express and had them shipped to a place just across the border to make shipping cheaper and faster. The tops I bought were both tank top styles but maybe check out the site - they had TONS of options (tanks, t-shirts, long sleeves...) and most of them were REALLY well priced! Another Princess recommended them to me on one of the FB groups :goodvibes
ETA: the yellow tops I bought were like smiley-face yellow :) Very Belle-ish, I think!
