Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess Half Marathon Weekend)- thread #2

Ok princesses I need help!!!

I have JUST decided that I don't want to be left out and do want to make a costume after all....so I am desperate searching for a few things....namely yellow leggings/tights as part of a daisy duck costume. Any suggestions on where to find something like that?

I'm starting to feel this way too but I don't know where to begin. About 3 months ago I saw a beautiful tutu on etsy that I said I was going to order and consider wearing, but I didn't and now I'm SOL when it comes to buying one already made. Same with a sparkle skirt or whatever they are called. I'm a little nervous about it anyway, because don't have any skirts or shorts that would work under it to help it from getting tangled and I'm afraid it will be too hot to wear capris. I know... excuses excuses!

I have just been reading some race recaps with some really pretty princess pics and all of a sudden I feel like I'm 9 years old and I wanna wear the pretty outfit too!!!! :rotfl:

there are lots of videos online in how to make your own tutu - or look for a dance supply - amazon?? I got my sparkle skirt very quickly when I ordered it.

I would say, purple or pink running top, your fave running shorts or capris under a white tutu, and yellow or orange calf sleeves.

My phone did not multiquote so lost it but so sorry to hear of the broken heel!!! :(

So another question - I want to run with my iphone with me (for pictures, as well as pacing) - what are the best options for doing this? Last year I had an arm band phone holder, but by mile 8 it was chaffing like crazy and was so painful. I would prefer not to wear a belt, and the little pocket on the back of my capri's isn't big enough for my phone. Is there something that straps to your leg?

I use a bust cubby. My very good friend designed them and has started a company selling them. Check out her web page to see what I am talking about. I run with mine unless I am on the treadmill. www.bustcubby.com

At the Tink expo last month I bought this running pouch thing. google "the roo sport" and I think you'll find it. I know we're not supposed to try new things on race day, but I ditched my belt and used that instead and I loved it! It was SO relieving to be belt free. Even if you don't get it ahead of time, stop by their booth at the expo (if they are there), and check it out. I am normally not a shop at the expo booths type of person, but I'm really glad I did this time!

I second this, it is a brilliant product:thumbsup2

I have decided, many months ago, that I will not be dressing up this year. I have made, for me or my daughters, many outfits to run in so this year I am taking off. I have seen some very nice, well thought out outfits, some horrible, and some just ****ty (hope I can use that word). I have seen way too much tulle and so I am going for comfort this year, plus I hate packing all that. MY DH and I can go to Europe for 3 weeks with 3 sets of clothes, shoes on our feet, one pair of sandals, and few things..I carry about 14 pounds total and never worry about being weighed down with extra.
But hope you all get your outfits put together and they work…please try out shirts and bottoms to make sure they won't rub or annoy you. It is quite a sea of color on race day. And beware of those men cross dressers. :rotfl:

**guess I can't use that word…starts with an "s" second and third letters are "lu"

I'm doing the same this year and going with comfort! I've got 7 tutus.... Changing it up!

This concept intrigues me but I wish she included pictures of exactly how this fastens onto a bra-- can you explain? Or better yet, show a picture? I'd like something like this to wear to the parks so I could avoid the bag line.

These Under Armor capris look yellow online, but I can't tell whether they're actually yellow or light green. Same for these GAPfit capris. Anyway, I am running in the pink ones and love them!

On a side note, I LOVE the guest blogging on Margaritas Miles and the Mouse!

I don't know how to post pics on here using my iPad. If you have Facebook, look up bust cubby. She has a lot of pics on there and you will see how to attach. Sorry I'm not more help. She is on Pinterest, too.

My friend and I went as Donald & Daisy for W&D. We got our tights at Target and they were so comfy that we bought more to wear with dresses!

For those looking to put together a last minute costume, Target has Champion shirts in almost every color of the rainbow. With an iron on and some shorts in a color inspired by the character you want to be it is easy to put together a cute "costume". I'm not a skirt/tutu runner (though I love seeing others wearing them and looking cute) so I just looked at the running gear I had, bought a couple of accessories, and put together character-inspired outfits that cost me less than $20 total.

This winter is killing me! Freezing rain this morning, Yaktrax on AGAIN, sloshing through slush and puddles and leftover snow, ice crystals all over my gloves. Yuck yuck yuck. I only did three miles, which was probably better for my big toe, which I had drilled yesterday to release the fluid. Podiatrist(who hates running) said no running until I see him again next Tuesday but we all know that's not gonna happen two weeks before a half marathon.

Thanks for reminding me to check target! They are my go-to for running clothes anyhow and I've been trying to break the bad habit I have of somehow buying things from there even though I don't need them (do they pump something into the store to make you do that? B/c it happens to me Every.Time!) I'm gonna make a stop there this weekend.

And for those in the wintery weather, I feel your pain! Normally I embrace the seasons but this is getting ridiculous! I'm sick of boots and school delays and cancellations and icy roads and freezing rain and sub-zero temps. Ok, rant over. Thanks for listening! The only thing I keep thinking is that I hope this cold weather will keep up for the mornings of the races. Not frigid, but just a mild, 55 with low humidity please! :):goodvibes

So, this would be a bad time to complain about running in the heat here in FL, huh?

:lmao::rotfl:;)

It really did feel like summer last night - or at least spring: low 80s and high humidity. And... I loved it! It felt so nice to have all of my joints and muscles warm and ready to work without waiting 2 miles to get to that point. Please feel free to refer me back to this post when I want to die on my runs this summer.

From Maryland here - my fear is that it will be warm and humid when the race starts!! I am not used to that and really can't get myself going very well in that weather. Lucked out at the PHM in 2010! I had layers, gloves and a winter coat. I finally felt my toes after the first mile and was able to shed my coat after 3. Another layer or 2 after that. I LOVE that weather to keep me going.

Important point - I am a WALKER/slight jogger, not a runner.

I am doing the half. This will be my FIRST EVER race. I am not trained like I should be AT ALL. I will probably WALK most of it and jog some. I am very nervous about the whole thing. Especially more so than before, since I just found out the person supposed to be going with me has backed out. I am not very happy about it at all. Two weeks before the race.

Are there any runners bringing their children?

Yes, there clearly is something in the air. And then the darned coupons get me too. But you would be surprised, if you lay out your running wardrobe what inspires you for costumes. I found I had blue shorts in a perfect Anna color and a black shirt and some blue running sleeves already. I picked up an iron on patterns and it looks very Anna-like. (And I don't have to do a tutu test run around base either, lol.) Then I saw that my light blue running shorts were a perfect Alice color and paired them with my white running shirt. I picked up a black bow headband and a white rabbit iron on and I am going "Alice-inspired" for the 5k.
