Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess Half Marathon Weekend)- thread #2

Are there alot of walkers at Disney 5k's and are they all finishing within 49 minutes?

Will Disney really take you out if you are too slow?
LOTS of walkers in all rD races! I mostly walked the Royal Family 5K in 2012 and finished in just under an hour - 58ish minutes. It's possible they can, but I've never heard of people being swept in the 5Ks. And I strongly suspect you'll find yourself moving faster than you expect, just form excitement and adrenaline! I'm doing all 3 races this year and plan to walk most, if not all of the 5K. :thumbsup2

Just to interrupt this awesome board dedicated to awesome running princesses to thank H&M for the David Beckham commercial. Back to training. Tomorrow:)
::yes:: :love:

Anyway, it was pretty good...I just really really hope it does not rain that weekend!
Me too, but it's always a possibility - are your outfits made from tech/wicking material? That's really all you can do about rain is wear clothes that won't hold the water and get heavy. If the forecast is rainy, I also suggest a brimmed hat/visor, which will help deflect rain from your eyes.

~~~
Proving that you never know what the heck FL weather will bring, we were in the 40s last Fri. and hitting low 80s all this week, before diving back down to 30-something. :rolleyes:
Final long run coming up this weekend and I'm planning to make it a mini-Triple Crown: 2ish miles Fri., 5 Sat., 9-11ish Sun. After that, it's taper city. :yay:
I too had been having some ankle pain recently. Apparently, I hadn't been tracking my shoe mileage as well as I thought because I decided to dig out a fresh pair today and finally, a pain free run/recovery. Not sure if that is your problem as well, but for me, apparently inner ankle pain signals, fresh supportive shoes. Thank goodness I stocked up from amazon last year. Since they don't make my favorites anymore.
I hope your pain goes away soon. And don't say "just the 10k" or"only the 10k". 10k is still a fantastic accomplishment and a challenge to many many people! Good luck!
I bet new shoes would help... I'm going to try some gel inserts in my shoes to see if that helps as well. Also did some research on form and I can probably improve that too. After the 10k I'm going to look into getting new sneakers.
And thanks :goodvibes You're right, the 10k will be a HUGE accomplishment for me! I used to be that girl in high school gym class who felt like she was going to die during the mile run.
Oh, and I really need to add Let it Go to my running playlist! I think "Love is an Open Door" too, that one is fun :)
Above freezing yesterday for my 11.5 mile run. Woohoo! I'm not even too sore today.
Thanks for the advice on when to snack. I did some gummies at 7 miles and again at 9. I could totally feel them hit too, which was cool. And I didn't have A&D, but had Desitin, which worked very well!
My costume for PHM is almost finished. I will post pics once it's done. I'm going as Anna, and I keep adding stuff to it - which may not be a good idea. I'm hoping that the gold trim I added today doesn't chafe.... hmmmm. I'm going to need to try this out, and I am going to look really silly at the gym.
DH's shirt we designed at customink.com came the other day, and it looks awesome. It's a white Champion dry-fit shirt with hot pink that says "Princess Tech Support" on the front, with a picture of a computer with a Tiara on it. He didn't want to do a costume, so this was the compromise!
Getting so excited!!! :cheer2:
So another question - I want to run with my iphone with me (for pictures, as well as pacing) - what are the best options for doing this? Last year I had an arm band phone holder, but by mile 8 it was chaffing like crazy and was so painful. I would prefer not to wear a belt, and the little pocket on the back of my capri's isn't big enough for my phone. Is there something that straps to your leg?
I would try for a pair of capris with mesh pockets -- or maybe an arm pocket case with extension pieces?? Can you see a pocket to your costume?
I do have a hat, and everything is tech material, but man...it was so wet, that didn't seem to matter!
I know you said you don't want a belt...but have you seen Flipbelt? I use one and it's not a typical belt, it's a band of stretchy material that has openings around it to put your phone etc inside, then you flip it over so the openings are next to your body. It is flat and looks like the fold over waistband on yoga pants. I really like using it you don't really even notice it on when you're running. I wore it for the Disney Half last month and put my phone and a few packs of sport beans in it.
Now why didn't I think of that! perfect idea!:cool1:
Although I also like the idea of the flip belt. I will look at that too!
Thanks all!
At the Tink expo last month I bought this running pouch thing. google "the roo sport" and I think you'll find it. I know we're not supposed to try new things on race day, but I ditched my belt and used that instead and I loved it! It was SO relieving to be belt free. Even if you don't get it ahead of time, stop by their booth at the expo (if they are there), and check it out. I am normally not a shop at the expo booths type of person, but I'm really glad I did this time!
I actually LOVE my Amphipod running belt -- I like being able to decide when/how much I drink along the way, it carries everything I need, and I honestly forget about it almost immediately. :) But the RooSport looks very cool... had never seen it... maybe for my shorter runs... Thanks for sharing! :)
Hey Guys! Guess what? I jumped off a bunk bed this weekend and BROKE MY HEEL!:sad: I am in a cast for 6-8 weeks and after 6 months of training that means no princess half for me. :sad::sad::sad:
I can defer it until 2015 for $70 ( it is me and my daughter) but my mother in law is also running and may know some friends that will run with her if they can buy our registrations. Is that allowed? How does it work?
Thanks! Y'all have a great race and I WILL be there next year!
Sorry about your heel. Bib transfer is not really allowed, but it is done all the time.
I HATE my amphipod belt, but love my amphipod 12oz hand held with the little ouch on the holder part. I have run a couple marathons with it and just refill it at the water stops.
Good thing there are SO MANY options available, right!? I have a neck/shoulder thing and if I had to hold a bottle the entire time it would KILL me!!
Ok princesses I need help!!!
I have JUST decided that I don't want to be left out and do want to make a costume after all....so I am desperate searching for a few things....namely yellow leggings/tights as part of a daisy duck costume. Any suggestions on where to find something like that?
I use an armband for my phone, but I discovered something during my last rD half... it was much easier and more pleasant to just hold the ting in my hand that I thought! I never do that; t's always safely tucked into either an armband or belt pouch, but it's a big PITA for me to get it in and out of those for pics, so, knowing that I'd be taking a few pics within a couple miles, I just left it out and held it - first time ever doing that, believe it or not. Didn't bother me at all, surprisingly! I tucked it back into my armband to run without pics for a while, but holding it was a whole lot easier for picture taking.
FWIW, I use either an ArmPocket or Fitletic armband and neither causes any chafing. :thumbsup2
Yeah, wet is wet, but wet cotton is much worse, lol! Between rain and sweat, my running clothes are wringing wet all summer long; I'm used to it at this point. ;)
Ack! I'm so sorry. :sad1: Sending good wishes for a quick recovery.
In regards to the weather, hubby and I are also bringing a backup pair of shoes. (We have 2-3 pairs in rotation at any given time). This way, if its really rainy/soggy for the 10K, we don't have to worry about whether our shoes will be dry for the half.
I did the same thing for the Tower of Terror 5K/10-miler. Peace of mind. :goodvibes
Luckily, we didn't get any rain. Insane humidity (!!) but no rain! :)
If anybody doesn't have multiple pairs of shoes, just pack some newspapers. If your shoes get wet, you can stuff them with newspaper as soon as the race is over and they should be dried out by the next day! Yes, there are newspapers available at Disney, but if it rains, just imagine hundreds of princesses all trying to get their hands on them at the same time....
You could try yellow calf sleeves (I think Zensah makes a normal yellow as well as neon) instead of a full legging or tights. Or knee highs. I'm a fan of evoking the character using gear/clothing that's made for running, whenever possible.
