Have anyone of you that have done a half before switched methods for training. I run all my miles. Was thinking of switching it up. I have used the same one, half marathon rookie, for the past 10 times. Do you think I would have a hard time adjusting to the Galloway plan? Not really going for speed. Been there done that. It was fun till my foot started cramping up about 1 mile away from the finish line but I did reach my goal, under 2 hours. :thumbsup2 Now I am back to my average 2:10-2:15. That also includes potty breaks along the way.

You have plenty of time to switch it up. I'm actually faster using the Galloway method. Walk breaks won't necessarily slow you down.

Ran my first 10K yesterday so I would have something to submit when I register on Tuesday!!! (I know I can email them as well later in the year but my OCD brain needed a time to submit WHEN I actually register too!) ;)

It was really hilly but I got it done! 1:08:11! I was happy with that, although the hills really slowed me down. I ran it at 1:06:43 in training and didn't push nearly like I did for this race during training, so I know those hills killed it but I'm pleased to have this to submit!! So excited to register!!! :cool1:

I don't see any issues with it. I train for a full using a walk/run and for a half with all running.

I know this will sound "overly" sensitive, but I keep seeing people write all these "OCD" comments. Just have to say, as a mom of a diagnosed son with this, it is NOT a fun thing to have. Nowadays, the term is thrown around so loosely with the public, every time I hear it it makes me wince. Please trust me, this is not something anyone wants. People that have OCD have an underlying problem that if they do not complete a task, be it counting repetitive, washing hands excessively, etc then something extremely bad will happen to them or a loved one. Hate to sit hear and preach, but just wanted some of you to be aware of what the term actually is. I've never met a person with true OCD that throws it around loosely! Again sorry to preach, but if you only knew what some of these people struggle with i promise you would never say it again. On that note, happy running everyone!

Sorry, didn't mean to offend you. I actually do have some OCD issues and my son has some as well, but nothing to the extreme of clinically diagnosed OCD. I guess accepting my issues and laughing about them is how I deal with it. I think many people have milder OCD issues, but I can understand how someone with severe OCD would be offended by using the term so loosely. I should probably just call it nitpicky or perfectionism in the future.

Thanks! That is so good to hear. I'm using the Galloway method as I've gotten overweight, severely out of shape and I have a foot problem, but my Type A brain keeps insisting it-won't-work-you-must-RUN-ALL-THE-TIME!!1!! Very hard to stifle one's Type-A-ness, but I'm working on it :rotfl:.

Trust me.... as a HS/college athlete it took me awhile to silence my ego.

I have had to learn this too EGO has no place in this (or anything really ;) You MUST listen to your body, easy easy I keep telling myself...think like the tortoise (at least at first) slow but steady wins the race and it truly works If I rush headlong into things and push myself when I shouldn't then comes the inevitable setback..not fun and can be painful

No worries, you didn't offend me at all. Like I said it really is used so much nowadays. Its just a very touchy subject with our family. You actually see it used a ton on the Dis! People say it alot like "I'm organizing this trip so much, I'm so OCD". Which cracks me up because it's not it at all, it just means you want a well planned vacation! Well enough about OCD! I did a nine miler yesterday and I'm going to go ice my legs....again! Have a good day everyone!

I struggled with not feeling like a "true runner" since I use the Galloway method of walk/run intervals. That was until I ran the same half as a friend (she is an experienced runner), she ran the whole thing, and I used the Galloway method. And I only finished 10 minutes after her :cool2: Calmed my over sensitive ego of not being a true runner ;)

I did too, but I say that if you run at all, you're a runner!

I was hoping someone here knew for sure.

I was just on the Rundisney sight looking for host hotel info for Princess weekend. It basically listed every hotel I can think of on Disney property. Is this event now as big as marathon weekend and every hotel will provide transportation to expo and races?

I would love to stay at AoA but I won't have a vehicle so I need to rely on Disney buses

Another suggestion--if you still enjoy running vs. run/walking. I follow a plan called "Run Less/Run Faster"--don'let the name scare you off. But basically, it's 3x/week--one interval workout/one tempo run/one long run. What I like about it: 3x/week is less wear/tear on the body and since I didn't start running til age 49, I liked that. I also like the variety of the workouts. And it's based on whatever your current fitness level is, i.e. the training paces are based on current 5k time.

Granted, this type of workout is still geared towards improving race result, but it's not ultra high mileage.

Otherwise, I think Galloway is a good way to go. I have no experience with it, but a lot of WISHers do--even have at least one Galloway leader on the boards.

Good luck,

Maura

I read somewhere that every hotel is a host hotel, but unfortunately I don't remember where I read it. Did I get that from longhorns2?

Every hotel is a host hotel! Yep!

Ran a 10k in the rain today. I don't run in the rain ever (or snow or too cold or too hot- call me goldilocks!). It was just ok. The rain was better than the heat but my feet and legs were not happy today.

Kinda hating the idea of all these challenges now. Lol. Guess I should go do a half tomorrow and see. Ha!!!

Holy moly, Patty! I'm shocked you ran in the rain. I'm very proud of you. I did 2.95 miles in the heat this morning and it was awful. Oh well. Good luck with the half tomorrow! Have fun.

Thanks. Yep, I know I have plenty of time. I usually train for 8-10 weeks. Depends on what my goal is in mind. I am thinking after this next race, I am going to sign up cardio and maybe weight training classes again.
