Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess half marathon board)

I'm having a big moment of self doubt. I really want to do these races but my worry is mostly about the early morning times and weather concerns. I am an "after work" evening runner and only usually run in the mornings on the weekend and even then it's usually 9 am at the earliest. How on earth am I going to get up and on a bus at 3am?!

Then there is the fact that I haven't run In three weeks due to injuries and illness. Before that I had a long stretch of two years of good training that I enjoyed a lot. But have I totally lost my groove? I haven't had 3 full weeks off running in two years.

Plus my mother and mother in law both think I shouldnt do the races. I know they are old fashioned but it's hard to feel like you are "doing something wrong" in the eyes of women you respect. My DH and BFF are supportive tho.

Anyone else nervous about the races? (I know we're all nervous about registration!)

I run in the afternoons around lunch time.. The 3 am wake up call stinks but it is not tough. You don't actually start running until after 5 am and by that time you have been up for a while so it is not a problem, you can do it. Personally I think people make a huge deal of the wake up time when it is not, and believe me I am not a morning person.
As for you mom and MIL I don't know what to say. My mother thinks I am nuts, but she still flies down to FL to watch. Listen to yourself if you want to do it, go for it....

I can relate; soooo not a morning person. I was up early for the 5K and Half this year (didn't run the 5K, but was there to cheer for friends). It wasn't that bad because I planned my weekend around those early wake-ups: little park time, super-early bedtimes and opportunities to nap. To be honest, I think I was half-asleep for the first half of the half, lol! There are a bunch of marathonfoto pics of our group from the pre-race that I don't remember taking AT ALL! :rotfl:

Do you mean if the pass isn't registered with the website yet? Like if you only had the plastic pass, not the paper one?

yes, i have a plastic one i got at the everest 5k and have not been able to attach it to my my disney experience account.

I just got off the phone with the wdw.com help desk and was told right now, there is no way to link new APs to the website. They told me to try again june 10th!!! I hope someone is a savior to all us new ap holders and posts the link like they did for the WDW marathon :(

Not nervous, but I will admit I really do NOT want to run two races back to back. Just not into that. I like sleeping in on Sat, and only having to do the early morning once. I like going to the parks a little on Sat, but think I'll have to skip that since I'll have 6 miles on my legs. I figure one race will be a "real" race- the other will be a stop-for-every-picture-along-the-way and have fun race.

I'm signing up for them, but not happy about it. LOL :lmao:

I even told the girl that on the phone, that some people were pulling up the old AP codes and she said the site has been going under so much that the option do it won't let her. She even logged onto my account to try and said she could not do it :/

Does that mean no 5k for you? I am going to do 5k with DH and DS. I think I will walk the 10k.

You can definitely do it! I got benched for 4 months after surgery (had been running for 3 yrs prior). It took me a few months to get my mileage back up, but I'm definitely back into the groove and will be running Dumbo in a few months. An upside- my pace is actually faster than before my hiatus. :)

You can do it! The start time is very early, but maybe you can fit some early morning runs into your training to get used to running in the morning. As far as illness and injuries, there are still 9 months to train. If you have been running for 2 years, you shouldn't have a problem getting back into the groove, just go slowly.

I don't want to be too nosy, but I am really curious to know why your mother and mother-in-law don't think you should race. My mother doesn't really "get it", but she is not against it.

My schedule is similar to yours too...the only time I can run during the week is right after work and weekends are the only days I can run in the AM, though I get out there much before 9am...as soon as I feel comfortable that it's light enough to be out alone because in the summer it's just too hot to wait any longer. You're not alone in worrying about that early race-day wake up call...not too many people are accustomed to being up at that hour, but what I can tell you, most especially for your first, you will be so pumped up with nervous energy that morning, you won't realize it's 3am :yay: It's so very exciting! You have plenty of time to get your groove back (just start slow and set small goals). I hadn't run since this year's PHM and only just started back a couple of times a week last week...it stinks, but I'll get there. And, there's nothing more motivating than the combo of people that think you shouldn't or can't and forking over that hefty, non-refundable, registration fee ;)

LOL, I am totally wondering about this too

Well, good news! Apparently my mom IS ok with me racing, I just had a big heart to heart with her. She's a bit of a hypochondriac. She totally panicked during my sister's first W&D half, was completely a wreck about my sister medically. My sister felt really sick after her half, and since she was staying in their room, my mom witnesses her cramps and everything and that totally put her off. She was nervous about my first W&D also, but since I made them stay home and not come with us, she was much better at least to my knowledge.:thumbsup2 Once I finished and was ok, she now says she's ok and knows I can do it. That was a huge relief for me to hear from her. My MIL, however, thinks I should not race because it takes too much time away from my time with my family. I think she is starting to understand more, but she still reminds me of the fact that because I work outside the home, and now I also train for races, when do I have time to spend with my DS and DH? I try to explain to her that I run mostly when DS is asleep or that my long run time is my DH/DS special time together (since DH works a lot). But she still gets the digs in.

Anyhow - I'm psyched. :cheer2: I'm going to register. :cheer2:Now I just have to find out if I'll be able to take DS out of school in Feb. Since he's only in K, i think it will be ok.

Thank you ALL for your words of support. I'm excited to join your DIS running "group" and run like a princess! :)

I don't know if Disney's website people are in Orlando, but they may be affected by the storms and it may possibly be uploaded late. We have our 4th tornado warning of the day so far, this is all from TS Andrea.

Agreed. It is seriously nasty here today!

Tornadoes popping up in Pinellas. Just got done taking shelter in an interior room of my office... more on the way. Stay safe, fellow Floridians!

I'm wondering what a good goal would be for a 10K to get a decent corral placement. I am training for a 10k that's at the end of July. I'm new to running. Tried it a few years ago and kept having plantar fasciitis issues. I'm finally ready to try again now and doing all my foot exercises so the PF doesn't flare up again. I walked/ran about 2 miles the other day at a 13 minute pace.
Any ideas on what time I should shoot for with the hopes of a good corral placement in the PHM? I really don't want to be in the last or next to last corral!

Also, hope to run together. DS and DH will more than likely qualify for a better placement than myself and DD. Do we need to register as teams or can they just start in a lower corral than they are assigned? I know most races will let you drop to a slower corral, but I don't know if Disney allows this.

Even if you do loose power, you can use the phone's 4G network to do it, if you get cell reception.

I was looking at the WDW marathon application and that thing is massive! If this is anything like that I would be pulling my hair out to register on my phone.
