I can't decide if I should do the 2014 PHM. I am not a runner but an intervaler (is that a word?). I completed the 2013 PHM which was not just my first half but my first race period and I really struggled. My training hadn't gone very well with injury, illness, illness again & then finally a week and a half before the race another injury. :headache: Put the heat/humidity on top of it & I was a mess.
So do I try to redeem myself and go for it again? I'm the only one that thinks I need to prove anything but I want to do it right this time and since I know more I should be able to enjoy myself a little. Maybe. ;)

I think you answered your own question here :) Sounds like you had alot going against you the first time, and most of us here would probably feel the same. If you have the time and $$, go for it!

HOLY SMOKES!!! I am joining in!! This will be my first Disney race and I'll be celebrating my 30th birthday...kind of a Happy Birthday to me! :cheer2:

Agreed! Give it a second try.

Perfect way to celebrate your birthday!

just got a response from Run Disney on 1. can an AP voucher be used and 2. is there a Disney visa.

Of course, they were EXTREMELY helpful.....not.

I love my Sparkle Tech skirt from SparkleSkirts.com!!! There is a pocket in the waistband that holds my phone and then I put my Cliff Shots in the pockets on the shorts.

I love my sparkle techs so much. I have six. Yes, six. And I have a list of at least four more that I am trying to figure out how to justify purchasing. The only thing you can't easily carry in the three giant pockets is water. I try to do my long runs where I can do a 1-2 mile loop with a bathroom and water fountain or my water bottle that I can run back to, instead of hauling water around with me. My car key, ID, phone, gummies and pretty much anything else I need fits easily in the sparkletech pockets.

I am still waiting to hear if there will be early registration for Disney Visa Card holders...are they trying to kill me? :P

OK, this is at least third-hand but Run,Walk,Fastpass,Repeat posted: "Just heard from Margaritas, Miles & the Mouse via twitter, email coming TOMORROW about Early Registration fJune 6th for @runDisney Princess Weekend for Disney Visa Card Holders. Card holders check your email tomorrow!" No promises, but there is hope for you Visa holders!

Great news except for no challenge or 10k for Tink. Although the response does say "we CURRENTLY do not have a challenge or 10k."

Can we hope that's just because it hasn't been announced, not that "we WILL NOT have a challenge"? Lol

I think that is the case. Other posters have spoken to RunDisney reps and it's been said "between the lines" that there likely will be a 10k at Tink and that they'll work with those who register for GSC or Princess PLUS Tink now to be able to add on the 10k and challenge later when it is announced. This makes me a little nervous, but I can't bypass the opportunity to super early register for Tink because I already have my plane tickets...

OK, that's all the RunDisney gossip I have for today! Tune in next time for the next installment of As the Princesses Run! :rotfl:

Who is traveling with family? I have a 7 year old and a 1 year old. I want DH to come but with the kids someone else is going to have to come so he can come see me finish the race. No way he could handle both at the crack of dawn at Disney World. I feel like the kids need to stay home.

Just wanted to say that I walked/jogged for a bit over a mile (2500 steps!) in about a half an hour last night :)
First time I've ever done anything like that!

Is that a good time?

We are traveling with our kids. 10 and 6. Not going to wake them up. Hubby will stay with them. I will run and return to hotel with fellow princesses that I meet. hubby was actually hoping to run it with me but can't convince family to come with to watch boys while we run. But rightfully so. Its expensive.

I agree w/everyone else! If you have the proper support, time and $$ then I would go for it. :cheer2:

That is a GREAT time for a first. Keep on going! Try to use a training plan like the Galloway run/walk plan to make sure you are where you need to be by race day! Good luck! :thumbsup2

We will be bringing our daughter (2 in January) but she won't be at the start or finish line. I'll be back in the hotel room before or shortly after she wakes up. Then we'll all head to a character breakfast together.

According to the race description, it says register separately and then a team can be formed later for a charge of $15.

Yup! When the link was released, I went to the site so I could know all the info to write down that I needed for my friend to register on the 6th. And on the first page, there was an option of GSC AND another option of a team for $15. When you click on GSC, there was no option of team. Now, I didn't fill out any of the info, so I didn't go to the next page so I can't say for sure, but it didn't look like you could become a team there.

When I clicked on team, it brought up a page to fill out team contact info. Once again, I didn't fill out any of the info, so not sure what was on the next page.

But just from what I was looking at, it looked like the team sign up will be separate.

I'm bringing my hubby and kids - ages 3 and 7. I have been to two run Disney races without them in the past year and don't want to go without them again. They are going to do kids races and DS will do 5k. Oh and my parents are coming. Mom is doing 10k.

I was planning to register my friend and I both as a team since I can register early with the visa. If teams reg. is separate, can I register and pay for her?
I only have three days to decide whether to do the 10k or the half. I want to do the half sooooo badly but just started couch to 5k five weeks ago. I don't want to be too ambitious. Heart vs head.

Hello! I'm so excited for the Princess Weekend! My childhood friend and I are running together! I had a question. A few years back I had to have knee surgery after tearing my meniscus. My knee doesn't really bother me anymore for the most part, but after I hit so many miles it does tend to start giving me problems. The other time it bothers me is when it's colder outside. I own a brace, however it's big, bulky, and it's whereabouts are currently unknown, but I have never run in a brace. Does anyone recommend it? Is there a brace that's better for running? Any help would be appreciated! Thank you Princesses!

Have you considered Galloway method or a run/walk option? I was a competitive swimmer in HS/college and tore my MCL/medial meniscus. I had my first knee surgery in college. I started running in my mid-twenties and hit a roadblock when I had to have my second knee surgery. I continued to try an straight run option and would have flare-ups. My friend introduced me to Galloway and I've become a running addict. It took me awhile to adjust b/c I had this silly ego that walking didn't qualify me as a "runner." However, I'm running faster than I ever did with a straight run method. I've completed 1/2 & full marathons, and 2 Goofy challenges. Several of the runners in my group have also qualified for Boston. So it's totally possible to be a "runner" with the Galloway method.

I wouldn't start wearing a running brace without conferring with an ortho or PT. The brace will change your gait which may snowball other issues (hip, ankle, etc.).

Post long runs, I use compression sleeves, biofreeze, and ice.

First off, do you run some of those intervals? Then you ARE a runner! :thumbsup2

Second, oh boy, do I ever understand where you're coming from! I was injured throughout training for this year's PHM. The race was fine, but it sure wasn't what I thought I'd be doing; because of the injury, I trained to walk most of the distance. I finished and I'm proud of that, but yeah - I want another crack at doing it the way I'd intended. ::yes:: So I signed up for the WDW Half, since it runs the same course. But now, with GSC... I'm leaning toward Princess Half 2, The Remix. ;)

HOLY SMOKES!!! I am joining in!! This will be my first Disney race and I'll be celebrating my 30th birthday...kind of a Happy Birthday to me! :cheer2:
Perfect!

Good start! Are you using anything to track distance? You'll want something that gives you a pretty accurate measure so as to figure your pace; you'll need to work up (down?) to runDisney's minimum 16:00/mile pace. Which is a whole easier than it sounds, IMO; you'll see your pace start dropping as you keep at it!

Does anyone know if they usually have AP rates during the PHM?
Yup! :thumbsup2 I wound up staying with friends on DVC points for most of the Princess weekend this year, but got one night at CSR at an AP rate.
