I am doing space coast. I figure if you email your time same day you run (dec 1) then they should take it.

Put down your watch time if they don't have an official number for you. Should be close enough. :)

I'm so glad I found this thread!!

Okay, so I'm going to do my first ever run/jog/walk event with Disney ^_^ I chose this one!! I was all set for doing the 5k but that 10k is REALLY tempting and looks fun. I know there are 8 week plans for 5k and I think I could do that as soon as my new work schedule starts, but now, since I have time, I was wondering if you guys think I could do the 10k?

I have never done any sort of activity like this, I am very out of shape and I am out of weight. However, I have signed up for a walking activity with work and have a pedometer (and am walking more).

I really would like your guys' opinion if you think I could do the 10k. I would love to do it :)

Has anyone done space coast half marathon? I registered and was hoping to use the time from it for the PHM. The space coast race is the same day that Disney is requiring you to turn in your time. Not sure when they give you the official time.

Space Coast is very organized and will have your POT up same day. It's an out&back course so super fast. See you at breakfast at the finish line!

I saw a handful of people running with strollers at GRR this year too...some if those people really plow through the crowds and it can be scary!
I'm in Jax myself too :)

Completely agree! Kind of drives me nutty though b/c I really wanted to run with my daughter. I didn't run in 2012 b/c I just had my daughter and had obviously forgotten how crowded the course is. I was in a seeded spot and didn't see any jogging strollers but I would be ticked if I had. Only b/c I selfishly wanted to run. I know Hal Higdon sent Doug Alred a scathing letter after witnessing an accident on the course. Which is why I was told I'd be banned if I tried.

You have written your own answer. If you would love to do it you will! I truly believe anyone can walk/run any distance and fall in love with the process. Get out there!

Maybe I will see you there. We will be hanging out in the Moonjogger tent/booth

Get a plan to do the 10k, and keep training. It's a great goal! The Disney races are a lot of fun and very inspiring to keep you moving! Best wishes and let us know how you are doing!!!

Do they email it to you? Hope to run into you

You simply email Disney the event name and your time. Space Coast will post the times and make it official to the USATF database. RD just searches the database and I'm pretty sure it's a automated/computer program that reviews the times b/c my time was rejected 2 years ago. I run Disney under my nickname b/c I don't want my full legal name on my bib. The POT I submitted was under my full name. I would email on 12/1 and then follow up with a phone call to verify they received it.

Do you ever have an issue with packet pickup using a nickname? When I did a tri last year I was worried about that, so I put my full legal name since that's what's on my id. But while was racing, whenever I heard someone yell great job "(insert hated first name:)" it didn't occur to me for 15-20 seconds they were talking to me. I never, ever use that name except on official documents. I'd much rather have my nickname on my bib. Does Disney give you a nickname option?

I'm the same way. I signed up for the marathon with my nickname because I didn't, didn't, DIDN'T want my full first name on my bib. Only my mother uses it, and only when she's mad at me . I didn't see any place in the process to chose what you wanted on your bib, so the first time through registration I actually backed all the way out and redid it with my nickname.

However, since my nickname is the obvious one for my name, I don't expect any ID problems...fingers crossed ;). Is your nickname much different from your given name? If so, I'd call RunDisney and ask.

ETA: No, it's not Dag...Dagna's one of my middle names :cool2:.

On RunDisney's website, they list the starting times for the 5k and the half marathon, but they don't say what time the 10k will start.

Do you think it will be run at the same time as the 5K with 10k runners branching off or doing a second loop? Will the 10k be immediately following the 5k? Both say they run through Epcot... :confused3 I was really hoping to do the Glass Slipper Challenge and perhaps the 5k with my mom, but it is looking like they will be at the same time.

My nickname is not super obvious, usually the nickname for another name, but it is close to my name in pronunciation, not spelling. Not an abbreviated spelling like Rob for Robert though. Thats why it makes me nervous.

Also, just wanted to let others know after 35 minutes on the phone with a very helpful woman named Madeleine I got my new RFID annual pass all set up with the website. I called the number "DisneyRunnerGirl" shared. The CM explained that they are reworking the "affiliations" section of the My Disney Experience site. She said that they won't have that fixed until the 10th, but they have developed a "workaround" that can solve the problem. It took the women some time, she had to get all my info, call ticketing services, and then walk through the process of adding my ticketing info to the site. Basically, you card has already been assigned an identifier number like was always on the paper ones, its just not printed there like before. When you call they get ticketing services to look it up for you, and then you can enter it as has always been done to register your pass online. So if you have tried before unsuccessfully try again if you have a chance, it was a lot of time holding, but I got to listen to the music from a bunch of my favorite rides, so it was tolerable:) And now I have a back up plan if I don't have a link from DVC. Anyone know when they put that up? Is it not until day of? I still only see the WDW weekend and W&D as links. At least the AP site says it will have PHM, just no date on the site, but the newsletter had it, so I feel safe with that. DVC says nothing about PHM yet.

I am pretty sure that the 5k is Friday and the 10k is Saturday. Maybe you misread the website.

I just wanted to add that Disney Visa's site also says nothing about PHM. :( Hopefully that will change very soon! Someone please let us all know if you see it.

Damn if you're not right! :rotfl: My assumption had been Friday 5k, Saturday 10k, and Sunday half, but I swear to God a half hour ago it listed Saturday as both the 5k and 10k.

I think I might be losing my mind. :rotfl2:

I always have an issue but bc my nickname is so made up. My dad created my nickname at birth and it has stuck. He literally had to deliver me as I arrived too quickly and the Dr was MIA and the nurse wouldn't respond to his screams into the hallway. Love my nickname! My full name will NEVER appear on a bib. Noone has ever used my "real" name except the nuns at school!

I still swear it was last week bc I was comparing the info.

On the issues of names/nicknames, I have used my nickname for 2 Disney races and never had an issue; the only issues comes in when I submit my proof of time- if I submit it when registering, it won't accept it, so I just email it in and they take care of it for me :thumbsup2

My nickname is a common nickname for my formal name, so its all good :thumbsup2 I don't like to go by my formal name becuase I have a crazy aunt who married into the family and she has the same name :sad2: When people ask if I was named for her, I'm like NO, I was the first one in the family, SHE married in!! :thumbsup2

Did I read the rundisney site correctly? The kids races will be on Friday and Saturday? I'm bringing my GD who will be 5 and she wants to run 200 yard dash. I don't think she will be ready for a solo 1 mile race yet. I want he first race to be magical.
