Between races I mix it up a little. I will take weight training classes, Zumba or another cardio class. I also try and run at least once a week. I do drop my running significantly after a race. Also on my down time when I do run, I run about 3-4 miles at a time.

I have also set different goals each year or for a period of time. My last goal was from Thanksgiving to New Years. There actually were a small group of us. We had to run a minimum of 1 mile each and every day. We needed to post miles every day too. It helped keep us accountable. It was lots of fun. There were people that ran just the mile while there were others that ran more. We didn't run together because of life getting in the way but were there for each other when it was needed.

My first year of running, my goal was to do a minimum of one race per month. That was fun too. I think I ended up doing 12-5k's and 2 halfs. Jan, Feb, and March were hard. I ended up traveling for those ones.

My suggestion is mix it up so you don't get bored. Seek out a running group if need be. But most of all enjoy it.

Entering into my second year of running... and having just did the phm... I am wondering....

What kind of mileage do you all maintain? I went way down last month and it just didn't feel "right" after all the training for the phm. Not exactly like I was cheating... but like it wasn't enough miles. I now am adding a bit more for this month and so my long runs will all be about 7 miles.

I don't plan to do any more half marathons in the near future. Other than some 10ks... the next "big race" will be the ToT 10 miler in the fall. My thought was to just take it up by about a half a mile each month until September....and then just keep doing that until the phm. (unless by some miracle I am able to swing the W&D in which case I would step up the mileage in October) Is this just too many miles to maintain? Will I run the risk of overtraining/injury? Would it be better to maintain a shorter distance and then step up in the months or weeks before? (with a tapper right before the "big" day)

Last year was all about getting to a point where I could run the distance. Starting at couch it was only a matter of "doing more" now I am just not sure where to go....

I am maintaining our high mileage base throughout e year. I find it easier to maintain the higher base rather than build it back up again. I pretty much have a half scheduled ever month this year- plus now I'm doing Dumbo and decided to do Dopey. To get ready, I'm doing a full in the fall. I don't run 13 every weekend, but at least two maintainance runs during the week then a long run of at least 8-10 on the weekends. I want to be able to run a half at any given time. Takes a lot of stretching before and after to minimize any hurt to the legs plus the resolve to keep at it each and every weekend. I found if I start slipping and skipping runs, that's when I start getting more aches and pains.

That's awesome. :worship: I'm not there yet, but I have a half scheduled every month between November (Wine & Dine) and February (Princess Half) this winter, so I'm hoping to get to that steady high level soon.

If you stay on-site, do you need to be at one of the race "host" resorts in order to get a bus that early in the morning? Or, can you choose from all the Disney resorts?

Also, does Disney usually offer a discount on tickets and/or hotel rooms for race participants? What was the discount in the past?

I have really fallen off since PHM. The longest I've done is 5 miles and that was once, my other runs have been short 1-2 mile treadmill runs. But I'm recovering from ITBS and in physical therapy, my next half isn't until the end of October so I'm trying to get back up to 100%. I also don't feel right now doing as high of mileage. This month is the first month this year that I haven't run over 50 miles and I'm disappointed.

Yes, you have to be at a host resort to get a bus to the race. But if I recall correctly, this year all resorts were host resorts. I know they aren't doing that for Wine and Dine, but PHM is a much bigger race so they probably need to expand the host resorts.
Rooms are discounted if you are running the race, as are park tickets. I don't know the exact percentage of discounts but they are pretty good.

I'm following the Jeff Galloway app for my training! This weekend was the end of week 2. The weather cooperated long enough to get outside  although its SNOWING today :faint:

I did 4.4 miles with an average pace of 12.3!! I felt great and easily could have gone for a couple more miles...but I don't want to over-do....I want to trust the program and stick to it!! :yay:

My plan is to complete the "to finish" version of the app.... which should have me ready to run 13.1 by the second week of July

....after that I want to work on improving pace time and keep doing my 2.5 mile maintenance runs, but not sure how many miles to be running for my long runs.....July to February is a pretty big stretch of time!

I signed up for a 10k towards the end of May...hoping to clock in a pace of 12...my goal is to be in the C Corral, so I have a buffer for photo-opts and breaks!

We have not stayed at the Boardwalk before. It looks really nice :D. We decided to offer this as the delux for our wedding which happens the day after the DPH. I wanted a resort near our venues. If you're staying alone I have a room block I maybe able to offer discounted rooms as we get closer depending on how many reserve rooms.

We're trying out the Boardwalk Villas for the first time at the end of May  !!!

Not sure where we will be staying for the PHM....have to see what I can get with my DVC points at the 7 month mark. I'd love to try BLT!!!

Hi Princesses (& Princes)!!!

I am not doing the 2014 Princess Half, but I did do the 2013, and it was amazing!! My plan for 2014 is Tinkerbell in January and W&D in November for C2C! Super excited, but kinda sad I won't be doing this one with y'all! It's truly a magical race, and special since it was my 1st half!

Anyways, I noticed a lot of questions regarding race recaps, and I wanted to let you all know that I just launched my blog today, and even though there isn't a recap for the 2013 PHM *yet*, I am currently working on one!! Stay tuned :)

I'm pretty much what the USPS claims to be. I run in rain, sleet, heat and snow. Yesterday I plugged out 10k in 49 degrees and rain :/. A few weeks back I went out and ran in light snow :/. I've been known to be on a trail at 5am in the summer before the sun comes up to put in a 10+ miler because my meds don't work well with heat and sun. I really don't know when to quit, I'll run through arthritic flares too unless I'm in such a state I cant keep proper gait. When I broke my leg I refused to let them cast it I swam through the injury and pool ran with a water belt :/. My fiancé and rheumatologist often tell me to take the day off I feign deafness and run anyway.

2013 PHM was my 1st 1/2 - so much fun! Hoping to be back in 2014 w/ my best girlfriend of nearly 30 years, hooray! And hoping to pick up a C2C in 2014 as well - accommodations booked for both Tink & Princess. I'm hoping the trip planning will 'up' my motivation 'cause I'm struggling to get my feet back on the street!

Did a 10K this weekend. 92 minutes. I didn't train well for it due to illness, my cousin and I did stop to take some goofy pics at one point, and at mile 5 we stopped for 3-5 mins to wait for the rest of our group to catch up to us.

I did sign up for text updates to my phone and I actually had a couple of miles of negative splits, so that made me happy!

And the finisher's medal was cool!!!

AWESOME!! :thumbsup2 That is actually why I wanted to start a blog... there are a few blogs out there who kept me inspired during my training and along with keeping a journal of my running, I really want to help others stay inspired too!!

On another note, wine sounds delicious!! :lmao:
