Tell me about the sweepers....I know they monitor the race course for people below the 16m/m...how do they determine who is behind?

There are "balloon ladies" who ride on bikes and go with the last corral, maintaining a 16m/m pace. If you fall too far behind the balloon ladies, you get pulled.

As far as those who are ahead of the ladies (maybe they started in an earlier corral), I'm not really sure. I've never heard of people being pulled in the middle.

I'm in! This will be my first half marathon but have been running for about 2 years now and have multiple 5k and 10's under my belt. I was signed up for the half this month but due to a foot injury while training, I had to have surgery and had to back out. This will be my ultimate comeback!

On a side note................what are the usual host resorts? Is there a favorite resort to be close to the racing action? I'm guessing CS is a big one. I was to make it our family vacation too. Any advice?????

THANK YOU for the third paragraph!!! I so needed that. I am trying to train for a half that is coming up in May and using excuses. Thanks again.

No problem, thank you for the feedback. I let them get in my way for awhile. I registered in July, trained well through Sept, then from Sept until Dec I skipped a lot. At most I'd run once a week and I used the excuses, they were in my head. January 1 rolled around and I got really serious, and it felt really good to overcome those mental road blocks. I stuck to the training between Jan 1 and the PHM and I did fairly well. I was injured and it was hot and I still finished in 2:48. We tend to think so much and I've noticed the more you think about all of the life that is getting in your way, the less likely you are to keep going. I stopped thinking about it, and once I made training part of my daily routine, it went smoothly. I treated it like work, cleaning my house, taking care of my kids, something I had to do and it started to fit right in. And it turns out that hopping on the treadmill with my laptop, catching up on a tv show, was actually great relief from the stresses of my day and life, and I got to the point where I looked forward to it, it stopped being another chore.

"What Makes You Beautiful" by One Direction is in the middle of my playlist-so upbeat and a good reminder to feel beautiful in the middle of a sweaty and/or tiring run! :goodvibes

I wonder if they will keep the same medals for next year, but take the 5th anniversary off?

Is anyone following some good PHM TRs from this year? I've been hoping to read some but haven't come across any yet! Better yet- is anyone here writing one?

I'm super new to blogging, but I recently transitioned from a WISH journal to a separate blog. I've got a four part trip report on the Princess half:

Pre-Trip
Meetup
RunZilla
The Race

Reading the race reports and watching youtube videos (especially TinkerAmy and SaySay's videos and blog) really helped keep me inspired during the long months of training last year when it seemed like the race would never get here. It's hard to believe it's been over for a month!

One more link that might be helpful, I spent hours putting together this Pinterest site on costume ideas for Disney races.

My favorite is from Princess and the Frog - Dig a Little Deeper. I actually had it on my playlist for the half marathon three times. Once around the 5k point, once around the 10k point and once close to the end. It always gives me a good pick up.

Ooooh I really hope so!! The regular ones are nice but IMO kinda hard to read. 5th anniversary one was just gorgeous!! I am inclined to think they'll go back to the regular ones until the 10th anniversary, and then 10th will be special, but who knows!
Does anyone know when they released the medal design for the 2013 PHM??:scratchin

I hope soon! I want to know what I should envision as motivation while I'm running! :rotfl2:

I'm in! I'm starting up with the c25k and I am going to try to sign up for a 5k and a 10k too!

In an attempt to be more like the 'official' threads, I put up the race weekend details. If you see any mistakes/corrections give me a wave!

Even though the race is still over a year away its never too soon to talk about our happily ever after and how we're training to get there. So, step right up and introduce yourself. Tell me what races you're doing in the next year, how you're training and if this will be your first half or not! I'll start us off!

I'm Emily and I'm excited to be planning a trip for my first runDisney race! This will be my fifth half marathon (as of right now.) In the next year I'm hoping to run twelve races. So far I'm signed up for a 10k, a 5k and two half marathons. As the weather gets warmer here in CT I'm hoping to add to my race calendar.

Can't wait to earn my crown! princess:

You have some 2013 dates in there! The family race dates!

Good catch! runDisney hasn't completely updated their site yet so I was trying to change the yearly info over as I went! I also fixed it to include the start time for the half.
