I am 99% sure I am in for the GSC. I already signed up for the dopey and had no plans for the PHM, but just cannot, NOT do it.. I have been waiting for the all clear from my husband and son lol.... Looks like they are coming around... :)
I need to talk some local friends into it.. It will be tough because I did talk them into marathon weekend so two trips b2b will be a long shot....
Cannot wait to see if DVC offers early sign ups. I did not see it on their website yet ( may have missed it)

glad to hear it! If it's the right shoe for you, you'll be amazed at the difference! But if something doesn't feel right after a few runs, don't be afraid to take them back and try something else. You'll sometimes get a different opinion on what you need depending on the person helping you...which can sometimes be frustrating :crazy2: But it's worth it in the end to get matched with the right shoe...until the brand decides it needs to tweak them one year...oh, don't even get me started!! :faint:

Totally agree! I have had tons of foot issues this year, and I couldn't have gotten through it without my local running store (support your local Fleet Feet if you have one!). They have been amazing with changing my shoes and making recommendations for new ones.

Also I am interested to hear how the corral situation works. I may want to find a 10K to do, and I would like to have an idea of what time to aim for.

YES!!! I have had shoe issue after shoe issue. Got fitted at one place, they put me in one shoe, almost immediately my knee started hurting and by the time I realized I had the wrong shoes I had full blown ITBS, Took them back, ran in my old shoes, immediately better. Went to another store, got fitted again, different shoes, almost immediately my other knee started hurting. I stayed in them up until a couple of weeks ago and had ITBS badly in my other leg, went through PT and all kinds of other things, got new shoes and after 3 months am finally running pain free again. Make sure you buy from somewhere that has a good return policy! I was able to return the first pair but am now stuck with a pair of Ravennas I can't even walk in.

I'm sorry you've had so much trouble! I can relate, though it wasn't the fault of the store. It was my weird feet!

To prove the point that every person has different shoe needs, I walk in the Ravennas. I love them for every day, but I run in the Adrenalines.

My Adrenaline 12s were my favorite shoe ever. But when I went to replace them the 13 felt very different. I went with a Saucony, which I like but not as much. Have you gone with the 13s? Did you notice a difference? I like the sauconys but not as much, and I'm wondering if I should have given the 13s more of a try. Maybe they felt so different because my 12s were so in need of replacing? I'm also afraid these stability shoes might be too much structure for my cross training workouts, and was thinking of trying Ravennas for that. I workout daily, and I think alternating shoes would help me. A friend said the cushioning needs 24 hours between sessions to recover. Not sure if that's true, but I feel like I am wearing these new ones down faster, so it makes me wonder. One thing is for sure, if I ever find a shoe that I love as much as those 12s I am buying multiple pairs! I hope I can find something I like more before I really start adding on the miles for my 10k/PHM training.

My first pair of Adrenalines were the 13s, so I have nothing to compare it to!

Multiple shoes is a good idea from what I've been told and a rule I follow myself. I normally have 3 pair on rotation...one pair for cross training, one pair for short runs and another for long runs. My long run pair is always the newest with fewest miles and are the ones I use on race day as well. Once those get up around 150-200 miles, I get a new pair...move the 150-200 milers down to short run shoes and move the short run shoes down to either cross train in for a bit or save them in my closet for a future mud or color run. Works for me...I'm a card-carrying shoe-aholic anyway and not looking to reform anytime soon ;)

SO MUCH SAD NEWS ALL IN ONE DAY! :sad2: I'm really sorry to hear you two won't be at PHM/GSC next year. But it's nice that you both still have other runDisney events to look forward to for 2014! And I'm super impressed (and glad!) that you're gonna be able to stay and hangout on this board without getting all sad about sitting out the 2014 PHM! I don't think I could do that! After about 2 days of reading other people's posts I'd probably be desperately coming up with ways to get PHM back in my plans!

(....I'm secretly hoping this might happen for both of you!!):rolleyes1
:rotfl: Yeah, not gonna happen for me, I'm afraid... unless I hit the lottery :teeth:

I'm strangely not feeling that sad about it. I sort of feel like things are falling into the places they need to be for me, y'know? I may consider just the 10K, though - we'll see... ;)

Is there anywhere that lists corrals and their qualifying times?
Here's what we got for 2013:

Elite: <1:30
A: <2:15
B: <2:30
C: <2:45
D: <2:50
E: <3:00
F: 3:00
G: <3:25
H: no time - I assume this was for anyone estimating a finish beyond 3:25 and/or no time entered at all

I also use multiple shoes. I have also had a problem moving from one model year to another in the same shoe. I spoke to my "shoe guy" and he said it could be the shoe changed slightly, but it also could be that my running needs have changed. I have been running for almost 2 years now and as I have built strength, my running speed and support needs have changed. I need a new shoe and he suggested Asics for my needs. Maybe the adrenalin is a lot of shoe, my husband and my brother started in those my had to change to the Ravenna. They similar support but are a little less shoe. I currently run in the Ravenna 4's but don't love them as much as the 3's.

SHOES!!! :furious::rolleyes2 :headache:

Let's see if, from memory, I can recall every shoe I've tried in the past year...
Mizuno Wave Nexus
Mizuno Wave Creation
Mizuno Wave Rider
Mizuno Wave Inspire
Asics Nimbus
Nike Free Run
Nike Lunar Glide
Altra Intuition
Altra Torin
Brooks Adrenaline
Brooks Ghost
Newton Lady Isaac S

Those are just the ones I tried... and didn't keep. :faint: Thank all that is good in this world for Road Runner Sports online and its VIP 90-day trial program.

What I'm happily wearing now:
Brooks PureFlow
Brooks PureConnect 2
Mizuno Wave Evo Cursoris

Thanks to being fitted into stability shoes, coupled with our very steeply canted roadways and weak-ish glutes, I developed a raging case of IT Band Syndrome last summer. I'm just now getting back to higher mileage without pain. All I can say is "know thy body" - which I realize is hard as a new runner. But think about the rest of your lifestyle if the running part is new... do you normally wear high heels? Thick-soled sneakers? Super supportive sandals? Share that with your fitter and be clear about what types of non-running shoes feel best. If they know what they're doing, it'll help.

In my case, I had the ill luck of being fit by someone who took one look at my very flexible arches, assumed I was new to on-your-feet exercise in general because I reported pretty low weekly mileage, and never bothered to find out more. In fact, I've been walking and doing light running for years, just not formally training for anything, spent the years in which my body was growing on my toes in ballet, and pretty much live in ballet flats, Chuck Taylors and flip flops. What I needed was not a big, supportive shoe that tweaked my entire leg out of the position in which my muscles have already developed, but a more minimalist option with a low heel, some cushion and a narrow, supportive heel.

For those struggling with finding the right shoe, find a store with a very liberal return policy and keep trying until it feels just right. I promise, there really will be one! :thumbsup2

Glad to know I'm not the only one with shoe issues. Guess I had better get some more sooner rather than later. On the plus side I googled my previous favorite and found it on a website. I'd looked at some obvious websites before with no luck, my size was always gone. But now I've found it! Yeah:)

All these posts on running shoes has really given me a lot to think about! There was nothing very scientific about the way I picked my current Asics...just pulled them off the shelf at Kohls and walked around a bit. They've been super comfie, BUT I had a really terrible hip flexor strain. Could the shoes have contributed?

:confused3

Maybe I should hit the running store!

I've got a shoe/foot question. Had my feet evaluated at a running store, the guy picked out a pair of Sauconys which are super comfy, BUT, I find that about 20+ minutes into my run my toes start to tingle, it's lik they are going dead? Anyone have this problem before?

Have you tried loosening the laces a little bit? They might be tight

I'm glad you were able to get help at the running store. I am also an overpronator, and getting stability shoes helped me a lot. Unfortunately my shoes, which I loved, got a "makeover" for the latest model and they are not as good for me. Ugh. At least my running store was able to help me find another good pair.

Is there anywhere that lists corrals and their qualifying times? I assume it changes year to year, but is there a general range for the corrals? And how many are there? I won't be in the front couple I'm sure, but I'd like to know how fast I have to get avoid being in the last couple. My best 5k was just under 27 minutes, so 9ish minutes a mile, but I have no idea how ill hold up at longer distances. The most I've run is four miles and that was closer to 10/mile. I fear it'll keep going up as I add distance. I'd like a goal to aim for. I want to enjoy the experience and take pictures, it will be my first half, so anything will be a PR!!! But the earlier I start I hope the more time Ill have to savor the experience:). I'm also running the PHM with my faster little sister, so clearly I need to keep up with her;).

well the first corral last year was anything under 2:15, which is like a 10:30 min/mile, and if you're already running a 5k under 27 mins, I think you'll be able to run a 10k easily an hour, which will def put you in the first corral!

There are new corral placement rules though at marathon weekend..hopefully they carry over to princess as well! Last year I heard the crowds were crazy. I'm not planning to run fast at princess, but I would like to be able to run at my normal training pace without having to be weave through crowds *too* much

That used to happen to me too...tried loosening laces, etc. but it would still happen. For no reason that I am aware of one day it just stopped happening, so who knows what was going on!

Oh no! I was going to buy Ravenna 4's at Sports Authority since I can use a coupon (I'm currently in my second pair of 3's and love the purple ones that are 4's). What don't you like about the 4's?

They feel different. I think maybe they run a bit smaller than the 3's. The support is good, length seems the same, got the same size that I had but they feel like my foot is the wrong shape.. Sorry if this is vague.. It is hard to explain. When I first bought my 3's they were perfect from the start. I keep waiting for them to "break in" but I have at least 50 miles on them and still the same. My feet go numb after 4 or more miles.. I don't know maybe I am just being picky because the 3's felt so perfect.
Maybe try them on and see how they feel first don't just assume like I did they would be the same.:)

I would go get fitted. I also believe the asics you find at big box retailers are going to be different than the styles/versions carried at a running store.

I think learning to invest in good running shoes is a process every runner goes through. I will never again purchase shoes without a proper fitting. My needs change dependent upon my current training plan. Plus I've had some pretty significant changea in my gait, shoe size, and weight since having my daughter. I'm running 15 lbs heavier than my last marathon. This will change with time.

Hello all !

I live this board. There is so much information here and everyone is so friendly! This will be my 2nd time running the Princess Half. I did it in 2011 with friends. Now two different friends are in for 2014. It will be the first half marathon! I'm super excited for all of us!

Quick question - is there a limit to the number of people who can register as a team?
Thanks!!,
