I have read that you should replace your shoes every 300-500 miles. I buy 2 pairs of the same shoe at the beginning of the year and replace the shoes with a new pair by summer (when my mileage is highest).

I'm also still deciding on whether or not to wear a running skirt for the 1/2. I have 4 different skirts and am testing them out on my long runs. If I wear true "compression" shorts under the skirt, the attached shorts do not seem to ride up.

I got all my race gear at Pearl Izumi.
My tights have the same name as my daughters middle name, as soon as I picked them up I knew the had to be the ones!!!!!!

I didn't know that there were so many things to worry about in a race! I ordered a running skirt that is much too short. Ordered a shirt that is a little bit snug. I am going to order the next size up, then determine which one to keep. I don't know what I will do about shorts or a skirt. I have been walking in just my regular old shorts! I really would like a skirt but can't find any to try on and ordering it didn't seem to work. Does any body have the name of a running skirt suitable for a larger, older woman?? I am going to buy new shoes and a different sports bra this week. I want to have every thing organized by the end of the week.

Last week, on a long walk, I irritated my big toe. Apparently, the toe nail was rubbing against the shoe and has caused the nail bed to be terribly inflamed. I've taken off a few days to try to get the soreness to lessen. So, between the weather (snow and Ice) and my sore toe, my training has been on hold for a few days.

Please let me know if anybody knows of a good running skirt that would fit me.

Thanks.

Meg

Hi Meg,

I like New Balance :thumbsup2 But I have run my last few races in a skirt from Target that I bought in 2007. It has a pocket on the very back that zips close, in the last 2 races I've tossed an older race goody bag back there (thanks to Pat's DH for the idea of having one) to be used to toss my hydration belt, my water bottle and my post race food in so I don't have to juggle.

We have a New Balance store near us that was running a sale. So I'm getting a new skirt :thumbsup2 It's being sent over from another location. Can't wait to get it. :cool1:

I've heard great things from Runningskirts, Skirtsports and SkirtGoddess. I think I've read about Skirtgoddess' commitment in a skirt review and it was good. I don't think i've heard of anyone on the Wish having a skirtgoddess though but that might be because of the availablity of the other 2. skirtsports i think has been at the Marathon Weekend, Disneyland and Minnie Expos.

I've thought about all three but then I tend to pick up my new balances online or at the store on sale and price wise i keep getting better deals. :)

Good luck in your skirt hunt!!! Comfort is key though so go with what works for you, if your shorts seem to be the best because you are most comfortable in them then go with it :thumbsup2

BTW, I have been getting the XL in the New Balance skirts. I wear compression shorts with them even though they have built in shorts. No problem for me with that. I DO use bodyglide to help keep the compression shorts in place AND to help against chaffing.

I have the skirtgoddess comittment skirt and LOVE IT!

I used to be a BIG fan of Runningskirts, but the last two I got were cheaply made and the "compression" shorts have NO compression and don't stay in place. I was VERY saddened that they had "cheapened" the quality :( which is why I wen to Skirtgoddess!

Now I also got a pinkone from Skirt Goddess that is going back. Love the skirt, but the black pockets "bled" onto the skirt after the first washing!

All 3 Skirt companies will be at the Princess. I have 2 skirts and 2 tops from Skirt Goddess. Heather at SG is so wonderful to work with! Love all my SG products. Running Skirts athletic skirts fit me better than the running skirts. I do love their prints. You will find quite a few people with Skirt Sports skirts. The Gym Girl is a popular model. All 3 are terrific to work with as far as returns go. I know for a fact if you call either SG or RS and tell them what you are looking for and what size you are they will make sure you get the right product. :thumbsup2

Hey Thanks DisneyDuets!!! I figured Skirtsports would be there. In seeing Carol's post it triggered a memory that someone on the WISH had heard that Race Ready was thinking of a skirt and sure enough it's on their website. The photo looks short but at 14" that is the same length as my New Balance.

Carol? Since you mentioned the pink one with the bleeding problems, do you have a darker color that you haven't had this issue with? Did you like their pocket depth? Oh DisneyDuets I am so excited now after hearing that all 3 will be there. I would like to see the S.G. ones with their pockets. :)

For the races I carry my phones so I can call DH ASAP once reaching the W tent. I've been carrying it in my water bottle holder (nathan) and hiding my Gels in my hydration belt's pockets and wearing my camera in another pocket.

But tonight I read someone on this thread's post about the SPIbelt's double pocket belt. :cool1: And if the pockets on the SG work out. I might have a new system to check out.

I can't wait for this expo!!!!! :hyper:

Well, it is 2:20 a.m., but I did just order a running skirt. I also ordered a pair of running shorts. When they arrive, I will try them on and, hopefully, one of them will feel comfortable! I am going to do the same thing with my shirt. Whichever one feels the best, I will keep. Thanks for all the suggestions on the skirt.

Next......shoes and socks!

Carol have you called Heather yet? I know she would want to know if you are not completely satisfied with her product and would be happy to send you another one if you wanted it. May be that batch of skirts was defective.:confused3 I have 1 Re De skirt(skirt with capris) from SG and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!! It is so comfy and keeps me plenty warm. Also a big fan of the Commitment although I like the skirt fit of RS athletic skirt. Hides the chub better! :lmao: :thumbsup2

I have to laugh at all the skirt talk. I am an active member of another forum and we have 4 or 5 threads going right now all about running skirts! :cool1:

Thanks for the skirt info! I am going to look around online!

Diane I like the pockets on the SG skirts better than the RS. They are a little more offset towards the back. RS pockets are right on the sides of you. I am a bit hippy and to me it feels like it just exaggerates it. SPIbelts are awesome!!! Works really well when you don't want to use your fuel belt or don't have pockets. I think Bonibands has a deal going on right now on them.

Morning Stacy! How was your weekend? Hope you are starting to thaw some. We were 64 yesterday, 60 today and snow coming in tonight and tomorrow. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Good thing we go to FL in about a month. I would surely go crazy :crazy2: if I didn't have something to look forward to!!

Good morning all. I checked out conditions at the cemetery yesterday in the hopes that the roads were plowed enough for my walk. They were not. In fact, my car almost got stuck on the ice...

So, my long mileage was on the TM yesterday. 9.36 miles in my 2 hour timeframe. I guess I did another 1/2 mile with warm-up and cool down. And, I felt good afterwards. My butt was a bit sore afterwards, but I am fine today.

Okay, I have to ask...what is so great about running skirts? I figure I will be taking my favorite shorts and my favorite capris (both from Race Ready with the pockets across the back) and see which is suited for the weather on March 8. But, with everyone going ga-ga over the skirts, I wonder if I am missing out on something?

As for shoes. I have 3 pair that are "active" 2 pair I alternate days with on my TM workout, and the 3d pair is GTX so I use it outdoors, although I have used one of my TM pair outdoors as well. I'll bring that pair along with the GTX for the Princess. I figure I will wear the GTX if it rains, otherwise, I will go with my other TM shoes.

I have a new bra from Champion that I am happy with, so I will wear that regardless. I will be wearing my smartwool socks. I have a shirt picked out as well, but may have to switch that if a sponsorship (for another event) comes through. Although, I would hope to be able to put their logo on the shirt I want to wear.

And, I will have my Camelbak with 70oz bladder. I will fill that with water and take sports drinks at the hydration stations.

Christine, I like skirts because they seem to give me more coverage if ya know what I mean! :thumbsup2 Running shorts are so short and since I have big thighs they ride up. Not comfy at all! I do like running in capris but they are too warm past 55* for me. Just a personal pref.. I know plenty of women who do not like skirts because they are too long/too much material. Ya gotta go with what works for ya!

Wow i'm so impressed so many of you run in skirts! I've started running in capris which i love too, but because of their material i know my running belt will slide right up! Will have to go back to my long baggy shorts for the run i think. Not very princess like in know :)

Managed a 9.5mile run yesterday and could have done with more water so i'll be taking the advice above and start training with kit i intend to wear. Bit tricky when we have OUR FIRST SNOW!!!! (it's like 2cm deep and i'm so excited, sad isn't it :rotfl: )

It's next month now :hyper:

Kate stay warm and safe! I saw the mess that London was this morning! :sad2:

I feel better seeing all this chat about skirts. I'm so accustomed to my race uniform of black shorts/WISH shirt that I'm not sure how to wear anything else. I need to order something soon so I can take some test runs...

I do have a Princess Tiara coming. It was so cute I had to do it, but I may have to check it in a bag for post-run pictures. Having never worn a tiara, I got a little carried away- now I'm thinking the rhinestones look a wee bit heavy. ;) It's so not me to do anything Princess like. :lmao:

If anyone is in the market for a plastic Disney tiara, our BigLots had a ton of them in the kid's section.

Thanks for the thought, but isn't it hilarious! we're not made for extremes of weather over here! Something stupid like 600,000 people couldn't get to work in london itself!!! I want to go and make a snowman, but it's too dark now our snow's finally arrived. No outside run for me tomorrow :)
