I got in 6 miles today. I will not be swept!!!! That is my only goal with this race. I may need lots of encouragement from you guys though. I'm working on 3w/2r and I think I may be able to keep up with that. We'll see how next week goes.

I just discovered that I need a new belt. My current one doesn't hold my phone in it. I just got an iphone about 1.5 months ago and this is the first time I tried to put it in there. My old phone fit fine since it was a flip phone. I'll probably go to the running store this week and see what they've got for me.

I also picked up some cliff blocks for next week. I think I grabbed orange. Is that any good? I plan on doing 8 mile next week and 10 miles the week after then tapering of sorts. I'm trying to decide if we (me and DBF) will do the Skirt Chaser 5k that is in Tempe while we're out in Phoenix. I'm not sure though because we are probably visiting Sedona and that might be the day to do it.

As for my clothes for the race, I have desparately been trying to find something Belle-ish for the race. I found a pair of Belle-blue shorts today on sale at sports authority and a white UA top. I'm going to try to wear it at the gym this week and see how comfortable it is. I also finally got some moisture wicking socks and undies. I realized that I really need both for the future. The undies are UA with a 4-in inseam. They fit okay, so they will be getting a test run this week also.

Wow! This is getting long. I should head to bed now anyways. Good night everyone!

mousemgr2, sending pixie dust your way!!!

Diane, thanks for all that great info! I will pass it along to my mom and sis..

Megan, congrats on your 6 mi!! Just want to make sure you got your nametag on the previous page! :)

Thanks Caitsmoma for the green Mickey head. That is so cool.

I am going to print out the Mickey head on iron on fabric and put it on a hot pink sleeveless tech shirt (has anyone successfully tried ironing on a tech shirt - I don't think there should be a problem but I was just wondering.) What color shirt was everyone else planning on using? I am actually also thinking of adorning the shirt with pink boa type fringe and maybe some rhinestones to actually "get into" the princess mood - nothing too flashy though. I might actually start on that this next weekend even though the thing I need to work on is my running - haven't done much since the marathon!!

As far as throw away clothes - I bought a $10 "disposable" jacket from the expo as well as brought a blanket that was in need of being thrown away anyway. When I got to the race I realized I wouldn't need the jacket so I checked that in my bag with my comfy shoes for afterwards. I just put the blanket over my shoulders. I actually ran like that for about 2 miles (it was right before going into Epcot for the 1st time that I dropped the blanket on the side of the road where they were already picking up other peoples stuff) In March though it most likely won't be anywhere near the temps in Jan but then again anything is possible - its Florida weather and in no way predictable.

Good morning! Hope everyone starts the week healthy and over the ills/injuries of last week.

Headbands--still have not heard back from Rebecca. I plan to call her today to make sure she got my last email. I will keep you posted.

Clothing--I am going to wear what I typically wear, but make sure I have a pink top. I am not much into the whole princess thing...

Warmth--I bought a couple of those mylar-type "blankets" in the camping section at Walmart. I figure I can wrap one around me before the race if need be, and dispose of it before the start.

They are quite compact, and only about 2 bucks a piece. Oh, and no, that is not a picture of me!

Hydration--I love my Camelbak and plan on using it for the 1/2. Many runners use the fanny pack styles, but I found a fairly flat backpack style that works well for me--even when I break into a 2 minute run!!

CMLD.jpg
This model is called "Dream" I found the best prices at sunnysports.com

Training--I did go out to the cemetery yesterday, depite 18 degree temps and a light snow falling. I made the 7 mile training goal--7.75 to be exact, and made the 16 minute pace--15:30, actually. So, for that I am grateful. Other than meeting those goals, however, this was my worst training walk to date in terms of pace and distance. I did not run at all for fear of icy patches under the snow. But, I should have been a little quicker... I know I shouldn't fret, but I got used to doing 9 miles in 2 hours, so I guess there is disappointment that not only did I not improve, but had the worst time of my training. Oh well. There is always next week.

Morning ladies!! I posted this over in the budget board but forgot to post it here too. The Crocs website has Disney Crocs on sale. Free shipping code is fall08lookbook.

ok, I decided to do it...please add me to the list...I am staying at CBR

If anyone else staying at CBR has specators meeting them at the finish, and would be willing to have my mom tag along, I would really appreciate it, it's her first time to Disney and I feel bad leaving her to navigate her way to the finish line alone...let me know?? TIA

Oh yeah, where can I get the Princess Half clippy?

How DARE YOU?!!! :lmao: Don't you know you have to post that info HERE first?!! ::yes:: I may end up getting the athens ones if they still have them left on Friday when i get paid. thanks!

Christine:
Thanks for that info!!! I will look into that Camelback thingie..

Tricia:
and why didn't i think of using a blanket!! I have a bunch of older blankets i could "throw away"!! You ran with the blanket on?! LOL That must have been a sight!! :)

Caitsmama thanks for the Mickey Head!! I am ordering a shirt from zazzle.com. It is microfiber sleeveless.

I am also going to go to Target and get a cheap long sleeve shirt to toss. I was going to try the Cliff Blocks or GU. The running pants I am wearing have a small pocket on the back so I will carry my phone and a snack. I always get so cold after I train so I am going to have DH bring me a sweatshirt to put on at the end.

Are we all lining up together so we can stick together and not let anyone get swept? My biggest fear is getting swept. I think any encouragement along the way will help me.

Wendi, i am sure we will all see each other and be together in the corrals - I honestly don't remember what i put for a time to finish, but i don't think it was the full 3:30 - as i was lead to believe (by someone here on WISH) that we shouldn't say that we are in the last time frame.. but i don't remember.. I am definately for sticking with anyone in my corral, as other famous people said:
WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!!

Well...I have one week to sort out my training issue or I'm going to have to cancel my trip.

I've been working out on the TM...do my warm up easy, get things moving, then speed it up and try to move on to running 1min/walking 3...desperately trying to get to the race pace...I get MAYBE .30 of a mile when WHAM...left calf cramps down into the ankle. I slow down...maybe pause a bit and stretch it out gently, but no good. *sob* I hobbled through a mile today unable to run ANYTHING and came in at 21 minutes *cry*

The only thing that gets the cramp to go is to hop on the stationary bike. :(

I tried using a hot pack, massage and stretching prior to going to work out...and when I did my time on the elliptical, I was doing fine. No pain, no nothing, and a good pace. On the treadmill it is like instant pain if I try to go faster than 3mph. :(

I've tried hydrating, taking tylenol, heat, massage, stretching and NOTHING is working. I am at a loss. For the moment I'm giving up on the TM and going to start going outside, thinking maybe it is something about the treadmill itself -- I rarely if ever get the 'calf' lock up when I'm walking on sidewalks. I've never tried jogging on the sidewalks, so that could make it cramp too.
The last time I worked out outside I was only a minute and a half off the race pace (and that was without running), so if I can sort out the calf cramp and resulting pain issue, I think I might stand a shot at making the race pace.

I'm starting to think it is a gait issue, and I don't have the time or money to sort it out before the race.

Anyway...any advice you have is welcome. I particularly would love to hear from people who have had cramping issues.

I'm just petrified that I'm going to get swept before the first mile is even up. If I can't see myself making it to at least mile 5, then I really have no choice but to cancel my trip -- it isn't worth the $1300 to go down and get swept immediately -- it becomes just a 'vacation' for me...which isn't fair to hubby.

Anyhoo.... sorry to dump on y'all, I was nearly in tears on the TM today feeling so hopeless and miserable.

For what it's worth, I cramp terribly on the treadmill, but almost never (knock on wood) outside. I think it's because outside it's so much easier to adjust your pace...

you can do it!!!

Soupy - I get pain down my shins and my calf if I take off too fast. Had it happen at the full and had to hit the first biofreeze dispenser.

During training I find if I warm up using the eliptical for 10 min, do a good set of leg stretches then hit the TM I'm fine. Also outside is different then the TM. I can never match my road pace on the TM (I'm a walker).

Might want to check your shoes. I had replaced the sock liner in one set last fall and found out the ones I put in were making my foot turn so had to swap them out for different style. Just a thought.

Hang in there!

Soupy- How are your shoes? That sounds similar to me after Goofy last year. Shoes I had loved suddenly turned on me. I had a pain that ran down the outside of my left leg from above my knee to almost my ankle. I hobbled around for a month thinking I'd never run again... When I changed shoes, the problem went away. The strange part was that the evil shoes were crazy comfortable- just made me run funny or something.

Hope this helps or someone else has a better idea!

Jen in GA

I'm glad to know that going outside seems to be different in the cramp area...definitely gives me a bit of hope.

Also, what is this 'biofreeze' stuff?? Sounds like heaven!! *lol*

I'm going to try to get really hydrated today (I was bad yesterday and didn't have enough to drink) and will continue to hot pack my calves and massage them before I do my warm up.

Any other suggestions are welcome as well!

Thanks gals!

Soupy

First of all....pixiedust: to everyone who needs it! Those needing to get off work for this event and those who having training issues... and to Stacey for the DH/Car issues!

Thanks to Stacey for Princess Mickey heads!!!

I have not been very active on this thread, but do try to keep up. This is my last week working so I'm trying to tie up a lot of loose ends. I hope this will give me time to get in my weekly workouts. For my training for the Half in January, I made sure to get in my long mileage, but I was not consistent in my weekly ones and I do think that effected my performance. I hope to do much better this time.

Keep on pushing you guys! You can do it!

Stacie

MM: Could you tell me the e-mail or weblink you got this info from? Thanks!
Also, could you explain what that is in your Avatar pic? I've been staring at it for the longest time, and cannot figure out what it is...?:confused3

I found this information at http://disneyworldsports.disney.go.com/dwws/en_US/events/eventDetail/detail?name=PrincessHalfMarathonDetailPage#pip-0-0. It is under the Event Overview/Disney's Princess Half Marathon section.

My avatar shows medals from the 2008 Chicago Marathon (also my 1st marathon). This medal was the hardest to earn (and therefore most sentimental to me )...:goodvibes

For me personally, I notice a huge difference when I skip the mid-week shorter runs. For 1/2 marathon training, 2 short runs & 1 long run seem to work best for me.

I agree with the other shoe comments. If you are having foot and/or leg pain, I would go to a running shoe store and get properly fitted for shoes. When I first started running, I got horrible shin splints within the first 1/2 mile. After I got new shoes, the pain was gone.

The discussion about extra clothing before the start of the race amuses me. Since it's been so cold here and I'm scheduled to run 8 miles next weekend, I'm hoping that the temperature warms up to the 20's so I can run outside. I guess I don't have to worry about it being "cold" in Florida at the start.

Biofreeze can be a big saver out on the course. http://www.biofreeze.com/

It helps take away the pain from a nasty cramp.
Have to thank Stacey (tink06) for introducing me to it at the Minnie last year. They have it at the med tents on the course and think all the bike medics carry it. I've used it at home when I strained my shoulder getting holiday decorations back in the attic. :thumbsup2
