Tracy

I love Tracy's weather reports, but let me tell ya, it's darn cold in North Florida right now. It's 11am and it's only 43 degrees, this is my weather forecast for the next few days...

Tue

Wed

I live in Tallahassee and we are 4 hours Northwest of Orlando. You should have heard the wind and rain storm that came in during the night, I thought I was going to see Dorothy fly by in a house....

As I mentioned, when I was at WDW the other night (rubbin it in for Stacey;) ) it was chilly in the evenings. I just have a feeling that although pleasant, it won't be as warm as previous years. It's just a guess and IMHO, but for FL we have had a cold winter this year...

Take it for what it's worth. Those of you under masses of snow will still be delighted, I'm sure, with whatever weather Orlando displays. This is my other prediction.... there will be NO SNOW!

When I did the Minnie last year I did not train at all, and my husband ran the marathon this year with no training as well.
If you think that you can complete the distance in the time go for it, it does not matter how you do it (run, walk or roll), or what time you finish it in.If you are going to you need to hurry before it closes. Thank you for the encouragement. I decided that i would wait to run the local race with my niece this summer

As for the ESPN I won, I finished in 15:13 and the first runner was 17:00. Disney will not reconise my win though as they do not have a crank chair class, I'm hoping that they will have one as the major races around the country do, and they always have crank chairs for the marathons so I don't know why they don't have it allready.
The corse was nice, except the first turn, you had to come back on yourself on a single track road, something my chair will not do. I kepted backing two and forth and in the end the CM there asked what he could do to help.....he ended up lifting me around the corner, if it was not for him I would have been there for a very long time and with the runners comming up fast it would not have been safe.
As I went around the next corner a CM was comming towards me in a golf buggy, when both quickly went different ways and we laughed about it at the end of the race, I don't think they expected me to get there so fast, I now I took some of the photographers by surprise....they where not ready.

I have been told that there is a large wheelchair / crank chair class in the Princess, the biggest they have ever had, so I will not be winning that one.
Congratulations on the win:cheer2:

Man, i am jealous of you guys who can just "pop over" to WDW on the way home from a business meeting (and in Naples no less?! - My sis use to live in Naples btw - beautiful!!)
Let me tell ya, Thurs. can not come soon enough,as i sit here just like Joan (although we are states apart) under a Winter Storm watch. And it is now snowing. Today is supposed to be a nasty mix day, but tomorrow we are going to get a substancial amount of snow i hear.. :( Only good thing is we may get a snow day! LOL
How i would love to be able to just pop over to disney.

Here is S.Florida we are under a Thunderstorm warning this afternoon. We are getting the bottom part of the "," (comma) of the stuff that is spinning around the GA and AL areas.

Can't wait, it's almost here....

LADIES, ONE WEEK FROM NOW WE WILL ALL BE GLIDING AROUND THE PARKS WITH OUR BLING BLING ON!!!!!! YOU KNOW IT!!!

I did a practice run with my tiara today and everything is A-OK!!

SYKO: CONGRATULATIONS!

Tracy

Its all about the bling- i was checking races for this summer based on bling

That looks cold- What are the normal temps around start time?

Hey Amanda!

I leave on the 6 pm flight for Spirit on Wed. I guess I will put my WISH bag in my carry on and wear it empty so we can spot each other :thumbsup2

You were at the ee5K? I was with Anne, Jeanne and I think her name was Kat (it was her 1st race) in the corral. We were there super early. We drove over and actually got our photos with that plane set-up before the ASI guys showed up. So we eventually hide in the shadow of something to get out of the sun.

We actually pre-ordered the shirts. DH was worried about the sizes of the official shirts and the Hanes ones had a nice selection. :)

Joan! LOL over the sun screen and what to wear to travel. I hope you are on your way now. Have a safe flight!!!

2 Questions!

I signed up for the party last night. Since I'm going solo I figure this would get me out of the room for at least the 1 night :thumbsup2 I filled out the party transportation page but never received an email regarding the transportatioin. I hit submit and I think it went back to the Princess website. Nothing like Thank you or we recceived your info. So should I have rec'd something?

#2! The room has a coffee maker. So I picked up some creamer (kind that sits on the table) and now I am thinking will these little cups handle travel without exploding and leaving non-diary creamer all over my clothes? LOL I know they have it i the room but wanted the flavored stuff. Maybe i should just get the powdered stuff.

Congrats Syko!!!! Sounds like you had an awesome race!!!

DIane: You could always put those littel things in a good zip lock bag, in case they leak or something. That way they would just leak in the bag and not all over your clothes.

Yes, we are getting part of that cold front down here, High will be 68! compare that to todays' high of 81!!! WIll warm up quickly though.

The creamer should handle travel. I would keep it sealed and stick it in 1-2 sealed ziplocks. I used to fly with soda and all types of liquids and things in my checked luggage. Just always made sure that it was in ziplocks or other plastic bags.

We have been here since 3pm on Friday. We drove through a blizzard on Thursday night to get to the motel by the airport we flew out of at 7:45 am on Friday. The weather was gorgeous until this morning. It is now in the 50's and was raining earlier. It is supposed to get better tomorrow or Tuesday. It is still better than being at home in the blizzard. :cloud9:

I found this at Disney. It would be perfect for the Princess Half.

I thought about buying it but found something else that I'm going to rig up on my WISH visor. It is a crown keychain at the $10 and less store. It is on the wall of buy 4 for $10. I can just pin it to my visor.

Bursitis in your hips! Ouch! I sympathize with you. Wondering if my shin splints and metatarsal problems are going to stay away enough to let me finish the race. The DR is prescribing a steroid pack to start on Friday, to keep the inflammation controlled enough to let me do the marathon. It is the uncertainty that is driving me crazy! Keep resting and doing whatever the DR said. I personally think that you should always take a nap between loads whenever you are doing a load of laundry.:laundy:

Hey ladies! Just checking in... It has been pooring a flood here yesterday and today. Looks like it may turn into Snow tonight. Under any other circumstance I would not mind, but I have place to go tomorrow... pedicure for the trip ya know!

We leave on Wednesday!!! CANNOT WAIT!

Hope everyone has safe travels!

A similar "madness" is affecting me - this is my first 5k, and I am already thinking of next year's Princess 1/2!

I'd love to do the princess too but I am going to see how I make out on this one. I have been reading up on training for a half and it sounds like 7-8 mins miles are average? If that is the case, I've got a lot of training to do before next year! Do you think they will have a signup for next year's Princess? I think if I just sign up and not think twice--I'm stuck so I'll have to do it! :rotfl:

Thanks for the expo information. It is helpful, even though I am only doing the 5k. I wish I was doing the half, but had broken my foot and did not think I would be going to Florida at this time.

I am thinking about signing up for the ING Philly half.

Packing is my project for tomorrow. It is one of my least favorite things to do. I have to be packed by tomorrow night and have barely started although I have piles of things. I leave Monday night after a day of work.

I just hope I do not get sick, as the Norwalk virus is running rampant around here.

Ugh--a broken foot? God Bless you for even training for the 5k! I'll use a sore knee as an excuse to not run!! Good luck! Hope to see you at the 5k!!

Hi gang! Sounds like everyone is ready to go. Life in my house has been crazy lately so not much computer time for me. Found out Thurs I have bursitis in both hips. :sad2: Ortho said no running until the race and then no running for 6 weeks after. :headache: He really doesn't even want me doing much walking while on vacation. Hello!!! I am going to be WDW! I am laying low until we leave on Thurs.
The pain meds are making me very sleepy so I didn't get any packing done. I kept taking a nap in between loads of laundry. At one point I fell asleep in the middle of the pile on the bed. DH said he got a picture of me but won't show me. :scared:

Hope you feel better! There will be plenty of people cheering you on!! Take it easy once you are done with the race. I know Disney isn't exactly the place to relax and maybe take a break during the day back at your resort. We always find a mid-day rest does wonders for us both mentally and physically.

I had a long post but I guess it got lost somewhere in cyber space! I wanted to thank everyone for all the encouragement. Although I wasn't a regular poster, I was a regular lurker. You all kept me motivated--especially those training for the half!! I have learned so much on here--everything from how to break in a new pair of sneakers to what to do in case of shin splints! I know all there is to know about running skirts, pinning my bib correctly, body glide etc!! Thank you all so much and I hope to see you all soon! Good luck to everyone and maybe I'll be running the half marathon with you all in 2010!!

Mimi, have you tried the compression sleeves for your calves? One brand I know of is Zensah... you might be able to buy it in a local store wherever you live, their website has a store locator. Pple I run with who suffer from shin splints SWEAR by the compression and added support. If you're hurting after walking around Fri/Sat maybe wear them for the run? Or wear them for the expo/fun days and then you might feel better during the run? Just a thought...

As most of you know by now, I'm not only new to the boards but I have... brace yourselves.... never been to WDW! I'm staying offsite near the airport and have a friend with a car who will drive me to the 1/2 start. So here's the question: Should I have her drop me at one of the 3 resorts w/buses by 4:30 a.m. or should we drive together to wherever they have people parking (details of which I can't find ANYWHERE)? What do you think?

Caitsmama: I'm not supposed to ask, but did you send me those logos this weekend? I haven't found them on the board :confused3

You are all such a wealth of information and support, I don't know what I would have done without you! I'm really looking forward to meeting you on Saturday and seeing you on the race course!

Tammy from CA

I did my last long run before the 1/2 next Sunday. I did 5.5 miles in 1 hour. I am pretty happy with that. My longest run since the marathon in January has only been 8.25 miles - hopefully that is enough to get me through the 13 next week.

Trying to get last minute stuff finished up around the house - well not last minute but stuff that needs to get done on a weekend before we go away. We aren't leaving until next Friday afternoon. I can't wait to get there.

Hope everyone has a great week and don't over do it this week.

Tammy from CA

Just have her drive you to the start, less of a hassle and will take a lot less time. I've driven to the start as late as 5:30 from Shades of Green, but most people would recommend leaving earlier. Traffic will actually be a lot heavier around 4:00 than it will be at 5:00 since so many people come reallly early.

Also thought I'd say hi since I was born and raised in CA, Torrance originally then UCSB for my bachelors.

Did my last LR of 6 miles. It was a tough one - I think I'm tired of training and ready to run this 1/2 already.

I started to pack today...the carry-on for my running clothes (except my shoes and ipod) is ready to go.

I'm jealous of those of you who are already at WDW. 3 more days of work and I'm outta here too! I'm so tired of cold and nasty weather and cannot wait until seeing 80 degrees and sun!

Take it easy and relax if you can - the big day is coming soon!

:stitch: 'Ohana's Monday Mixer :stitch:

We had so much fun with last week’s Monday Mixer, ‘Ohana is doing it again tomorrow! Come early, stay late, visit on any day of the week. No need to stick to the topic, either. We’re just happy to hear from our cousins and swap a tale or two over some tasty beverages. :drinking1

Tomorrow, we’re curious to find out how you pass the time on long walks/wogs/runs if you don’t listen to music and are training solo. (Or what you do in addition to/as an alternative to listening to music.) What makes the long miles less daunting and maybe even enjoyable? What do you watch for, think about, concentrate on? From the serious to silly to the surreal, we want to hear your stories.

Me, I’m pretty sure I hallucinate, but the rest of you probably have better strategies...

Hope to see you on the ‘Ohana thread. The mixer posts for this week start here.

Where are you now? Do you miss CA? I know I would if I left...Also, thanks for the advice! I suppose I'll find out where the drop off point and parking are at the expo?

I'm active duty Air Force, and I'm currently stationed in the panhandle of FL. I miss CA, but not the housing prices, I would not be able to own one like I do here.

Morning of the race there will be massive digital signs to direct you to parking at Epcot, and then there will be lots of helpful parking people to direct you to where the rest of the mob is walking to at the start.
