Calling all Polynesian veterans...

Okay, I've done some research and it appears that since we are visting the Polynesian in late October and staying in a concierge lagoon view room - that we will be in the Hawaii longhouse. I'm very curious about a coupla things and was hoping for some feedback. Here goes . . . Do all LVC rooms in Hawaii have a view of the castle or should I request one (albeit not guaranteed)? I understand the 2nd floor does not have balconies - do the windows open - or is there some type of sliding door? Are the views much different on the second and third floors than the first floor? If so, would the convenience of being able to walk right out of the patio door and onto the beach make up for that? Or is the beach even located right out of the patio? I've always liked to stay on the highest floor available in a hotel (for whatever reason I'm not quite sure); however, being able to walk right out onto our patio and procede to the beach/pool/resort appeals to me. I wouldn't want to give up a good view though. Thanks SO much everyone!!

1. All LV rooms in Hawaii are lovely views facing the Castle. Some are better than others due to landscaping obstructions. There is a list of the rooms, their views, and best location on Tikiman's Website - The Polynesian Pages. You will find it very helpful and informative.

2. No balconies on floor #2--the sliders do open--there is a barrier there--kind of like a deck rail.

3. The views are different between each of the floors only because of the height of the floors.

I know some people like the patio and walking to the beach--it isn't my thing because I don't get the "sand" attraction. Love the ocean, but the WDW lagoons--nope. Also, do you really want to leave your room unlocked while you wander out to the beach? The beach is across the yard and walkway -- not really far, but not just outside your door either. I know people do it, but I guess I'm too paranoid. If being able to walk to the beach to watch fireworks, etc. is important to you--it's a convenience being on ground floor. A drawback to me is the duck poo that accumulates from the wildlife. I don't like the little beggars in the a.m. either.

Second and third floor views would be nearly identical--difference being the balcony--obvious preference for me. I like the third floor best. Like you, I guess I prefer the higher floors and I think the views are better, but hey--that's me. It's all a matter of perspective. You should know though--3rd floor is smoking optional. If smoking is a problem--don't go there.

Tess summed everything up very well. We differ on preferences however.

We like first floor. We enjoy the lanai and have found we don't have trouble too often with the ducks if we don't feed them. My husband and sons enjoy walking out the door and to the beach. However I'm like Tess and would never leave the door unlocked so my daughter and I use the hallway.

The castle is so far away that the perspective is not very different from 1st to 3rd floor IMHO.

Thank you guys for the detailed info! I didn't realize that the perspective is almost the same between the floors if indeed we do get a castle view. I saw some pix on Tikiman's site - VERY informative. Can't wait to go!!
