Calling all Poly veterans!

A little background: DH and I are planning a big trip for our 40th birthdays next year and we'd like to do a split stay at AKL and Poly. We'll probably shoot for June and we will be bringing DS11 with us. Although we live in CA (we're going to DNL in two weeks! ) we have been to WDW several times. We have stayed at BW, GF and AKL and done a cruise. We *loved* AKL but the location, although great for AK, wasn't so great for the rest of the parks. We love BW for the location to Epcot and the activity on the boardwalk.

But here are my questions: I understand that the buildings are called "houses" and have individuall names. Can one of you Poly veterans tell me if one of the houses is specifcally reserved for concierge? If not, what is your favorite house? Can you point me in the direction of a posting/article about the different rooms, views or houses at Poly?

The Hawaii building is for concierge guests only. If you aren't going concierge, but want a view of the MK, Tahiti is the best building IMO. For garden view I would request something close to the GCH.

Tokelau-- we stayed at this house and was VERY convenient walk to TTC (but not too close) and one of the pools!! Right at the beach, too.

The Polynesian is great whichever building you stay in. However, my only suggestion would be not to split the stay between hotels. Last time we did - 2 years ago - was between the Contemporary and the Animal Kingdom Lodge. It really was time consuming packing and unpacking twice and when we got to the AKL our rooms were not right and it took a long time to get straightened out. I feel like we lost a lot of time with the room changes between packing and unpacking and the room mix up.

And thanks Mickeys Friend for the warning about splitting our stay. We split our last stay between AKL and BW. We didn't have any trouble but maybe we got lucky. I'll keep that in mind.

I can't wait! It almost makes turning 40 worth it.

Tokelau.....most garden views here are awesome, meaning you may get a peek of the lagoon. If you are able to get a look at the resort map, you can see how the longhouse is situated as opposed to others.
Nice big rooms as well

To the OP, there is a very good site that shows views from the various longhouses. Can't name it here since it is a competing site, but if you do a web search for the Polynesian you will find it.

All of the longhouses have their advantages. I would not get hung up on which one to stay in since they can't guarantee a particular longhouse (unless you are staying club level or in the very expensive suites).

just a suggestion, if you haven't booked yet you might want to do it very soon. I just booked Poly CL today. I wanted garden view, the site said only lagoon view available, so I called CRO. First they couldn't find any availabiltiy for the month of Sept 2008! Then she finally got me 2 rooms lagoon view. We always go the week starting Sun of Labor Day, leaving following Sun, and the parks are deserted. I could not believe the Poly CL was that booked a year in advance! The 2nd room is actually my mother's and I wasn't intending to book for her but the cm said if I didn't grab it it might not be there when my mother called. She did say to keep checking, especially early in the a.m. for cancellations.

Concierge at the Poly is wonderful. The Hawaii building is in a great location...by both pools but set back a bit so quieter. Right on the beach. The lounge is fantastic. The CMs are great and the preplanners are top notch.

Of the other buildings, is it just you and your DH? I'd go for Tahiti. Larger rooms, by the TTC but right by a semi private beach, and has MK views. Tokelau would be another good choice.

The buildings are actually called "Longhouses" and there are 11.
If you Google tikiman Polynesian you will find a wonderful site devoted exclusively to the Polynesian. There is extensive information on each Longhouse, including room views, pros and cons etc.
