Calling all Poly fans

We have a Poly adventure booked for late July... But I just got a pin# in the mail - but not for the Poly (crap)! This pin is good for the Beach Club, YC, Contemporary, and Grand Floridian. I would consider the GF but the rooms look like my grandmothers house. The grounds/pools look fine. Dinning options are OK. Normally it's not an issue, the Poly rules - but I can get a lagoon view GF room for $60 less than a garden view Poly room- or GF garden view for about $500 less. I'm not opposed to trying new things, but I love love love the Poly. If you are a Poly fan that has tried the GF, did the granny wall paper make you sick? If you stayed at the GF, did you look at the Poly and wish you had not booked old lady land?

I will start by saying we absolutely LOVE the Poly . We have stayed at both the Poly and GF and while we love both resorts, the Poly is our favorite. We like the tropical atmosphere and the volcano pool at the Poly over the victorian decor and beach pool at the GF. But with that said, if the Poly wasn't available with a discount and the GF was available with a code as well as cheaper than the Poly, we wouldn't hesitate to stay at the GF. I'm not saying you won't miss the Poly if you stay at the GF, but I think you would have a wonderful time as the GF is a beautiful resort .

The previous poster hit the nail on the head. We love the Poly and are planning on going back again for our annual summer vacation there, but if I was offered a pin code for the GF I would not hesitate. It's also an easy walk over to the Poly to visit.

To be completely honest though when we did stay at the GF I did look over at the Polynesian occassionally from the GF and miss being there, but it was not a major deal and we loved our GF stay. Also, they have palm trees at the GF so there is a beachy, kinda tropical feel there too.

Now let me go check my e-mail to see if I got one of those pin codes too.

Did you try to book with the code? I got one that listed several hotels (not the Poly), but when I tried to book the Poly was available with the discount so we were able to get it at 30% off.
If not, I'd probably use the discount. It saves you a lot of money and you are still able to stay at a deluxe.

We the Poly and have stayed at the GF.

To be honest, we were a little wistful for the Poly when we were at the GF and we ended up heading over that way alot for dining, the kids club and even to walk to the TTC center (we really like to walk and prefer doing that to taking the monorail from the GF and then switching to the Epcot line). When the path would switch from the GF to the Poly and we wre suddenly in the tropics with the music in the background, my stomach would sink a little bit feeling like we'd made the wrong choice of where to stay.

As some background, we stayed at the Poly the year before we were at the GF and had one of those near perfect trips where everything seems to just fall into place so nicely - including an upgrade to Hawaii at check-in. We had some bumps in the road at the start of our GF stay and I think that sort of put a damper on things and so it was easy to look over at the Poly and be all nostalgic for that perfect trip, kwim?

With all that said, we just changed plans for our April trip and we had the choice of the GF or the Poly and we took the GF. I really want to give it another try because there I think there is so much to love there - the grounds are beautiful, great restaurants, nice shopping, pretty rooms (although the decor sounds like it's not your thing, I prefer the lighter look).

I agree. Did you call and ask about availability at the Poly with the PIN code? I've also received PINs that listed certain resorts, but when I called I found I could use it at a resort that wasn't listed. It's certainly worth a try.

Just another chime in that I really liked staying at the GF but really prefer to stay at the Poly. I would take GF in a minute if I could save a couple hundred bucks over the Poly though.

My DH & I have been talking about something similar. We haven't received a pin, but are crossing our fingers. We love the Poly & have discussed the possibility of having to stay at another resort. I like the GF, but I don't know if I could stay so close to our favorite & not stay there. For us it would be just too sad. So we were considering the BC, or another Epcot resort. Good Luck picking a resort & have fun at Disney.

DW would call the Poly here favorite resort, for me it is a very close second behind the WL. We stayed at the GF and loved it there, still not our favorite but very glad we stayed there. While we do make the resort part of our vacation experience we do not make our room part of it. If we have a room with a balcony we will spend some time out there but we get out and explore the resort, hang out in the shops, hit the restaurants and bars, sit pool side. The GF has some great places to hang out; you got the music in the lobby which is nice to relax and listen to. And wandering the grounds is nice, it is a great theme.

My family says I go into mourning when we don't stay at the Poly and go over there for dinner or just to walk around

I will start by stating that it is my practice to stay at the most inexpensive room on the Monorail. We have stayed at CR twice and the Poly once. DD and I prefer the CR. DS and DBF prefer the Poly. DBF wants to stay at GF but no luck yet. I think all three resorts are great so for me which ever is cheapest wins. I prefer a less crowded and bigger pool and a whirl pool. I like CR so we can walk to MK and I really like the California Grill and the Wave. We always have meals at all three resorts, so we get to visit them all. It looks like we are back at CR this next trip. I will miss the Poly tropical atmosphere, but I know I will have a great trip. IMO, it boils down to whether it is worth the money to you to stay at the Poly or not. For me, no.

If it were up to me, you could stay at the Poly and give your pin to me.

I agree with others that sometimes not all resorts are listed, to calling to see if the Poly works with the pin is something I would definitely do. Best of luck and I am sure you will enjoy your vacation whereever you stay.

We had the same situation last summer. We had the Poly booked, but got a pin and a much better deal at the GF. We tried the GF and loved it! We did stay club level, and all agreed that we liked CL better at the Poly, but as a whole, the GF is our new favorite.
