OK Poly experts, I need your input. We are staying at the Poly in April and had several questions:

1. What bldg. to request? Looking for a non-smoking room, garden view. Like covenience to pool and monorail but don't mind walking. Leaniong towards Tahiti or Tuvalu. Thoughts??

2. How easy is it to get an upgrade to overlook the lagoon? Do they charge you for this?

3. Have a PS for dinner at 'Ohanas the day we arrive. Any recommendations on seating requests. Can you see the castle from here?

4. Any specific place along the beach to watch the fireworks and/or parade? Does it get crowded along the beach during the fireworks.

5. Can you rent water mice at the marine? We have 2 DDs ages 3 and 5. Can they each ride with an adult?

6. Have a PS for CRT @ 8:10 a.m. What time can we catch the first monorail to get to the MK?

7. Do the resort monorails run all night?

Any other helpful tips so we can enjoy our stay will be appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry, it has been a while since I last stayed at the Poly so I can't answer your building questions.

As far as O'hanas goes, ask for a table in the "main dining room" If you don't, you could get stuck in the room to the side or back and you won't be able to see the festivities--hula hoop contests, coconut races, etc.

If you sit anywhere on the beach you can see the electrical parade well enough. The best place is on the end of the pier but that fills up early and quickly. Grab a tropical drink, grab a beach chair and relax!

No, the monorails do not run all night. I believe they run up to
1 1/2 hours after the park closes.

Have fun!!

Okay, I've stayed at the Poly twice and I'll give you my best answers!

1. Building... We've had a room in Figi overlooking the Grand Floridian and the rooms across the hall overlooked the marina. Both rooms are considered "garden view". The view of the Grand Floridian was stunning, in the morning the faint fog on the water was beautiful and the twinkling lights at night were wonderful as well. This room was the first off the elevator, I can't recall the number, I'm not sure if the further down you go in the building the view changes or not. We also had a room in Tokelau overlooking the quiet pool. If we turned our head to the right we could see Cinderella's castle in the distance, this was also a garden view room. Both were non-smoking with balconies.

2. We didn't ask for an upgrade to lagoon view, nor was one offered to us, so I am not really sure what the policy is for this.

3. 'Ohana's is wonderful! Stop by the podium any time during the day and ask for a table near the window if you will be dining anytime around the Wishes fireworks. You can see beautifully from there and they dim the lights and pipe in the music. It's fabulous, 'Ohana is probably our favorite Disney restaurant of all.

4. We never did watch the fireworks or ELP from the beach, but it never looked overly quiet. We visited in December and November.

5. You can rent watermice right at the Polynesian marina, and each child must ride with an adult if they want to ride. They also provide life jackets to wear. I am not sure of the exact age that they have to be to ride alone, but I am sure it's at least 11 or so. My 4 year old nephew went with my DH this past December and LOVED it. Make sure to zip over to the Contemporary and go over the "water bridge that goes over the road". A Disney bus driver told my husband about this, apparently the little waterway that goes over to Bay Lake is manmade and actually crosses over the roadway near the Contemporary. Bring your camera/video camera because you can get GREAT shots from the boats!

6. We had a CRT for 8:05 on both trips, the first year we made the mistake of getting on the monorail at 7:15am and it did NOT stop at the MK. Make sure to get on the 7:30 monorail so you won't have to loop around an extra time. The monorail attendant can tell you if the monorail is scheduled to stop at the MK or if it is too early.

7. I don't know about how late the monorails run, the latest one we took was 10pm from the Contemporary. I would inquire about that at Guest Services, or look inside the Transportation Guide they give you at Check In.

Look for TuTu (spelling?) She is a wonderful Island Guide that made our trip extra special. When we were there in Nov of 2002 we took hula lessons in Luau Cove with her and had a FABULOUS time. I am not sure if the actual "lessons" still occur or just the demonstration that I saw going on Saturday morning. She also does wonderful arts and crafts with the kids in the lobby most mornings. She has been with the Polynesian from opening, if I recall correctly. Our girls sat with her one morning and strung lei bracelets and anklets and made Christmas ornaments for our tree. They loved her! We cried when we had to say goodbye, she truly is the spirit of 'Ohana in our opinion.

Bring with you, or buy grass skirts for your girls. I got some inexpensive ones with bathing suits at WalMart this year, the ones at the Polynesian are NOT inexpensive and my girls wanted them the minute we got there. I wised up this year and brought them with us! You can also get some through the Oriental Trading Co catalog.

Make sure to read your Island Times guide, it has great info about what's going on at the Polynesian during your stay. My girls are 2 and 5 and they cry if we mention staying anywhere else at Disney, they love it there so much. Make sure to plan time in to enjoy the resort, it's absolutely lovely and relaxing.

If you have any questions whatsoever I'd be happy to help, just send me a PM anytime! Have a wonderful trip and aloha!

Hi!,
I have stayed a the Polynesian a bunch of times, but not yet an expert!! I will give you some of my opinions!

"1. What bldg. to request? Looking for a non-smoking room, garden view. Like covenience to pool and monorail but don't mind walking. Leaniong towards Tahiti or Tuvalu. Thoughts?? "1. What bldg. to request? Looking for a non-smoking room, garden view. Like covenience to pool and monorail but don't mind walking. Leaniong towards Tahiti or Tuvalu. Thoughts??"

We like staying at Tokelau, it seems to be right in the middle of walking to the Great Cermonial House, and the TTC. You can get somewhat of a view of the lagoon from here.

"2. How easy is it to get an upgrade to overlook the lagoon? Do they charge you for this?"

I have tried to get a complimentary upgrade, and have not succeeded. Anyone else try this?

"3. Have a PS for dinner at 'Ohanas the day we arrive. Any recommendations on seating requests. Can you see the castle from here?"

I have eaten here few times. Watching the firepit is fun, if you are not able to get a window seat. Make sure you show up a little earlier than your PS's and just ask how long it would be for a Lagoon window seat. You can see the castle from the windows, but from the distance, its small. But its neat anyway.

"4. Any specific place along the beach to watch the fireworks and/or parade? Does it get crowded along the beach during the fireworks."

Yes it does get busy with the fireworks going on. The beach is full of lounge chairs, and has a few hammocks. Its best to check it out at least 1/2 hour earlier than the fireworks are scheduled. I have not yet seen wishes from the beach, but have seen other shows, its nice. You can hear the music on the beach closer to the pool. They have some speakers down that way.

"5. Can you rent water mice at the marine? We have 2 DDs ages 3 and 5. Can they each ride with an adult?"

Yes you can rent them, not sure of the cost, and yes each one can ride with an adult. If you have AP's make sure you ask for your discount!

"6. Have a PS for CRT @ 8:10 a.m. What time can we catch the first monorail to get to the MK?"

OK, I may be wrong on this one, But I thought the monorails started running 1 hour before the park opened. Best to check with guest services when you check in.

"7. Do the resort monorails run all night?"

No, they do not run all night. Again, I may be wrong, but I believe they run 1-2 hours after the park closes. If its an E night, (We can hope can't we?) Its still runs 1 hour after the park closes. Best to ask when you check in.

Here is the greatest site to answer a lot of your questions about the resort.Tikiman's Polynesian Site
I hope you have a great time! Cant wait to get there myself!!

1. Tahiti is great and so is Tuvalu.

2. Don't count on an upgrade to LV--if you want it reserve it and pay for it. During the busy months of Spring Break time, you can pretty much bet the resort is going to be busy. If it was "off-season" the odds are better in your favor.

3. Request a castleview window table--don't be surprised if you have to wait a bit longer since many, many people ask for this. Also, don't be surprised if they tell you that you will have to take the next available table--it's kind of a spiel the restaurants all give at times when it's busy.

4. We prefer locations on the beach that are near the "speakers" that pipe in the music. These are really the posts along the beach and you will hear the music coming from them as well. Hopefully "Wishes" is now being piped into the beach area--I know earlier in the year it hadn't yet been working. You will hear the music better near one of the speakers. We like the east end beach area (not the beach in front of Tahiti) versus the pool or dock area--usually quieter.

5. Watermice are available for rent at the Marina. Get there early--they rent out quickly on lovely days.

6. The monorail should run fairly early in the a.m. Getting to CRT at 8:10 will not be a problem. Make sure you leave a good bit earlier than your PS because the monorail has been known to have "issues" in the a.m. We were stuck on it one morning for over 1/2 an hour and barely made the opening festivities at MK--8:45 a.m. or so. Check with the guest services desk to be sure you know the exact time the monorail begins operation during your visit and plan accordingly.

7. Ditto the 1 1/2 hours after closing answer.

Enjoy your stay at the best resort at Disney! :D

I can't answer everything, but here goes:

Building choice: I would simply request non-smoking, then ask for near the pool (if that's what you want.) Then I'd let the CM pick the best building and room for you. It sounds like almost any of the buildings would meet the criteria. You'll find that magical tropical feeling all over the property. I've staying in many different parts of the property, and found that each location has had its own charms and hidden beauty.

Lagoon view: These are available, usually at approx $100 per night over the garden view. Upgrades are rare: if you really want it, then book it. Pixie dust *could* happen, but don't expect it.

'Ohanas table locations: You can see the castle from some tables here, but the recently constructed Volcano at the pool blocks the view from many tables. Don't count on seeing the castle, but it could happen. You could ask about a castle view when you check in at the podium... we were surprised with one last week!

The Beach: You'll be able to see the fireworks and the EWP well from ANY spot on the Polynesian beaches, or from the dock! The only time it sounds like the crowds are an issue is on holidays (especially the 4th of July.)

Water Mice: They do rent these at the marina. I think they hold only two people, but I'm not entirely sure about that.

Monorail: I caught the resort monorail at about 7:00 AM last week... I don't know how much earlier than that they start running, but I don't believe they run all night. (When you get to your room, there is a button on your phone labeled "Transportation." These guys are great about looking up bus, boat and monorail schedules for you, and advising on how to get around the World!)

We stayed there this past Christmas and had a room in the Samoa building, which overlooked the pool and real close to the GCH and marina. We booked GV so if Samoa is not then they upgraded without asking. If we are able to get a good rate this summer, I am going to request the Samoa building again.

Only stayed there once, but we were in Tokelau and loved it. I asked for a room as far down toward the lagoon as possible and go the one next to the end. Had a nice view of the Grand Floridian from inside. Sitting on the patio, we could see the castle.

Check out this website - it will answer ALL you Poly questions.

The resort monorail runs until 11:00 each night or two hours after the MK closes...whichever is LATER.

Have fun.

We are just back from a wonderful week at Old Key West, but spent time at the Poly. We had our last dinner at Kona Cafe (YUM) then went outside to watch the fireworks at 9. We sat at a table close to the pool bar and the music from "Wishes" was piped in. The view was great. As usual, lots of families gathered to watch. The minute the fireworks ended, the water pageant lit up for its show. Perfect!

The water mice at the Poly are the new ones. They look nifty and hubby and the kids report they are faster and better. They seat two. Other larger boats are also available for rent.

Looking forward to returning in June. I have 5 nights at the Poly and can't wait! I reviewed Tikiman's website and requested Samoa, as all my kids want to do is swim in that volcano pool! My plan is to roll out of bed and into that pool! Also, when we visited last week the quiet pool was completely surrounded by privacy fencing and under rehab. A nice CM said it will be up and ready for the summer season.

Hope this helps.

Just returned from the Poly. Stayed in the Tahiti building (garden view). Very convenient to the monorail, busses, and ferry at the TTC. About equal distance from the main building, volcano pool and the TTC.

The quiet pool was fenced off for rehab so the walk was a little bit longer.

Watch out for the monorails though. They kept breaking down while we were there. We almost missed our flight home because we were stuck on the monorail when it lost power. We got off at the TTC, and walked to our car at the Poly, just before it got stuck again.

The new water mice are GREAT. But, for some reason, you get very wet, unless the water is very calm and you are going very fast. The slower you go, the wetter you get.

...loved the slide at the volcano pool.

I don't think anyone mentioned this...you can also take one of the boats to the MK, although I don't know how early they start running. Anyone know?
