Calling all Michigan DISers, say hello here!

Another transplant here. I'm from Claremont, CA originally, (one hour east of L.A.), and have been in Saline, (South of Ann Arbor) for a year and a half now. Unfortunately, my view of Michigan has been colored by the fact that we moved here for a new job, and got laid off five months later! We'd love Michigan more if we had a job and knew we could stay! We built a dream house that we'd love to stay in, but if we don't have a job soon, we'll be putting it on the market and going south to live near my in-laws in Texas! As for the winters, they're beautiful, but I do get nervous driving when there's any ice whatsoever on the roads! I also wish we could get nonstop Southwest flights to MCO! We flew Spirit one year, and it wasn't bad at all.

 Hello!!!
We're almost in the middle between Lansing and Flint. Also about 45 mins. from Frankenmuth. Just got our first snow Thursday night. The kids had a their first snow day yesterday. They were happy! :flower:

Just wanted to say "HI" to everyone in Michigan!!! :wave2:

We should have another Michigan meet. There was one 4 or 5 years ago at a Mall in Royal Oaks, I think. I didn't attend.

Then we had one at Meridian Mall in the Lansing area. That was 2 or 3 years ago. Time just goes so quickly.

Good idea! I'd go. :moped: But we'd have to wait until spring because after driving through nasty weather all the way out of the state on the way to WDW I don't think my nerves could handle it!

Any other Michiganders out there? Don't be shy, say hi!! :)

BTW, I had my first pasty over the summer. It was yummy. Had never heard of them before. We were at a shop in Mackinaw City and I didn't even know how to pronounce it let alone what it was.

She said it was pronounced past-ie, like something from the past. I was saying paste-y, like glue or paste. I think what I was saying is something used in a showgirls costume!! :goodvibes Either way they were good.

We live in West Michigan between Saugatuck and South Haven. Atleast the sun is shining

Been here most of our lives... (all but 2 yrs that DH's job moved us outta here) Been all over too, but settled now south of Big Rapids and north of Grand Rapids.

JanDave - I have family in Williamston. Been there too many times to count!

 Hi fellow Michiganders, been here all my life so far. Getting a little tired of the Winters but thoughly enjoy the rest of the year. Waiting for Spring to come. :yay:

Checking in here from Lovely Livonia, MI., sayin HI!

I was at 12 Oaks today and was just thinking that it was about time for another MI DisMeet!!!

Anyone up for one soon?

Hi. Not only have I lived in Michigan all my life, but only in Northern Monore County. This week-end we had a re enactment of the River Raisin Battle. We are home to the oldest building in the state (some store). As a true native I can say I don't know the names of many things around here but where they are located. Monroe is located in the extreme SE corner of MI. We didn't get any snow today and less than a trace yesterday. i don't like it here but I'm terrified to move anywhere else.

just east of Okemos , in a little town , no bigger than a pea.. i lived in the country of mich my whole life cant wait ti get out i am the last one standing here of my family they all moved away... it will be south for me dont like the cold , but my grand kids are here so i will be coming back , if i ever leave , must retire first lol

Another Michigander here :wave2: Lived here all my life. I'm also ready for spring. I was at Meijers today and noticed they are putting out the gardening stuff. (yeah!!)

I don't live in Michigan, but my dad went to UM for law school, so I like Michigan football (even though I live in Wisconsin!)!! :teeth:

Just checking in from "The Breakfast Capital of the World", Battle Creek! I would much rather be in WDW, but there are several great things about living in MI. Many were mentioned by a previous poster, but they forgot about the gorgeous beaches of the Great Lakes! We can forget about the snow, I think most of us would rather not have that. It should all be gone in about another 4 months if we're lucky!!

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hi

I'm a lifelong Michigander here.......I grew up in Redford twp....DH grew up in Plymouth.....we lived in Dearborn for the first 7 years we were married & we've been in Brighton for about 12 years now :)
There have been a few meets at 12 Oaks (Hi Pinnie:)) & I was at the one at Meridian Mall that Katholyn mentioned too.
I agree that it's time to plan another one!::yes::

I currently live in Indiana but lived in Michigan for the first 25 years of my life. My family is still there and some good friends, but my husband and children are here so I guess I should stay. I miss it and hope to retire there in about 30-35 years...my sister and I have a plan to live next to each other and have an underground tunnel connect our houses. We worked it all out one night online, lol. We're crazy and miss each other so this keeps us somewhat sane, lol. :rolleyes1

mommaU4 I'm not at all happy with your weather Friday night. OMG, my husband, DS and in-laws thought that it was a GREAT weekend to go up to Boyne Highlands skiing. It took them 9 hours to make the 5.5-6 hour trip. I was a nervous wreck waiting for them to call and say that they made it...and they did at 3:30 am :scared1: (Not that I blame you!)

We have a Kalamazoo address but are in Plainwell's school system. DH grew up in Sterling Heights/Utica. We met at WMU and I convinced him to transplant to this side of the state.
