Calling all Michigan DISers, say hello here!

Another Michigander checking in. I live in a burb approximately 30 miles south of Detroit. I grew up in South Dakota, but DW was born and raised in Dearborn. We met in college (in South Dakota) and eventually relocated to Michigan to be closer to her family.

Sterling Heights, Michigan here. I was born in Detroit, raised in St. Clair Shores and my husband and I have lived in Sterling Heights for 29 years.

Sterling Heights is a suburb of Detroit (Northeast).

We had about six inches of snow today. I had a vacation day, so I was very happy I didn't have to drive downtown this morning.

I am just curious to see how many people out there live in Michigan. There's a few that I know of who have posted on another thread about MI but I thought we should have one place where we could all check in and say hi!

I have been here 16 months now, and when I say here I mean Lake Ann, which is near Traverse City, which is sorta near the top of the ring finger on that whole mitten map thing. Well, maybe between the ring finger and the pinkie. Whatever.:goodvibes They call it northern lower penninsula anyways.

So if you live in MI, have ever lived in MI, or wish you lived in MI, wave hello to the everybody out there! :wave2:

Another Michigander here!! I am in Southwest Michigan ~ Mattawan ~ which is just west of Kalamazoo!

We were up in Traverse City last weekend for a hockey tournament my son had! Holy smokes do you all have some snow up there! :earseek:

We got our fair share yesterday/last night though....they were calling for up to 8" and we ended up with at least 12". :earseek: YUCK ~ YUCK ~ YUCK. I so dislike winter. It is VERY beautiful ~ but that is the only thing it has going for it!!

Another Michigander checking in! I'm from Rochester Hills, which is about a half hour north of downtown Detroit. Hi, antmaril and DisneyPhD! You guys are pretty close neighbors. :)

Hey, tandrjohn, what part of South Dakota are you from? I have lots of relatives in Britton and Langford (very small towns in northeast SD).

St Clair Shores here!!....for about 14 years....raised in Clinton Twp though

 Hi! My Dh is from Flint, and his sister lives in Clio.
DH went to Ferris State up in Big Rapids and we lived in the Grand Rapids area for 8 years. (Dutton/Caledonia area as well as near East Grand Rapids).
My DD, now 20, was born at St. Marys!

Hello Michiganders! Can't wait for the summer so we can head up to Mackinac Island again!

I grew up in Highland (near Waterford in SE MI) and all my family still lives there. We just might move back one of these days, since the COL is so high where i am. I'm thinking the Clarkston area.

I was also born in Detroit, raised in St. Clair Shores. I currently live in Sterling Heights also. Too funny!

I have been around these boards for a while, but don't post often. I have been in Ortonville, Michigan all of my 44 years.

Hi Fellow Michiganders! My DH and I live in Williamston, about 20 minutes east of the Capitol. We both grew up in Dearborn -- I'm a Fordson tractor; he's a Dearborn "cake" - those from Dearborn know what I mean!. We raised our family in the downriver area (Woodhaven and Allen Park). We've been in the Lansing area for 13 years. We travel all over the state -- Cheboygan and Petoskey to see the in-laws; DD and family in Kalamazoo; another DD and family in Wyandotte; best friend and goddaughter in Taylor; lots of friends and relatives on east and west sides of Detroit.

As much as I hate Michigan winters, I love Michigan for the thrill of driving across the Big Mac Bridge on a beautiful, sunny day; Mackinac Island and all its charm; driving by the Old Tiger Stadium as we head to Xochimilkos (our favorite Mexican restaurant); driving by Ford Motor in Dearborn as it's my DH's employer; living close to MSU with the benefit of Spartan sports and Wharton Center; the beautiful drive north of Harbor Springs to Cross Village; Saugatuck; walking through the beautiful Fisher Building; driving through historic Detroit neighborhoods - Indian Village, Boston Blvd. area, etc.; watching the Thanksgiving parade -- which is still Hudson's to me; and many other areas of the state I know I am not including.

Has there ever been a Michiganders DIS meet?

I belive there was. I am thinking it was around 3 years ago. It was after I had joined the Dis, but I moslty only posted on the family and DVC board and I didn't "know" many people yet. I do remember hearing about it. I think it was at 12 oaks mall in Novi, but I am only grasping at old straws here.

My dad, grandpa (deceased) and great grandmother (deceased) lived in Ortonville for many years, closer to town. I have an uncle that still lives there and an aunt that just moved away. I have many fond memories of visiting my dad when I was younger on Sundays when he lived there. Ortonville is a nice little area :)

Another Michigander checking in. I hate the snow and winter weather. Yesterday was just nasty driving to work in the morning. I'm ready for spring already.

JanDave: I'm 11 miles west of you.

We should have another Michigan meet. There was one 4 or 5 years ago at a Mall in Royal Oaks, I think. I didn't attend.

Then we had one at Meridian Mall in the Lansing area. That was 2 or 3 years ago. Time just goes so quickly.
