DH had a car fire last week. One of the chiefs got on the scene and it was fully involved. The dispatcher came back on and said the repo men were just there trying to repossess it. Hmmmmm.... can you say ARSON??? Crazy people...what are they thinking?

Penny socials used to be real popular when I was a kid, now they have "tricky tray"s instead. They are a bit different. Today is an old fashioned penny social.

Tables are set up with new items that have been donated, and a coffee can is with each one. You buy tickets when you come in (100 tickets per card with the same number on each ticket) and go along the tables putting a ticket into the coffee can located with the item you are interested in. After a couple of hours (giving every one plenty of time to look and decide where to place their tickets) they start. They draw one ticket out of each coffee can and whoever has that number wins that item. (Each card has a holder ticket that you keep so you know what number you have).

yeah..the neighbors said these guys had been working on the car in the afternoon and it still wasn't working. Maybe they thought they would collect the insurance and get a new car!!
anyway....

We had a GREAT day!!

Went to Home depot and Lowes..then went to the pool for 3 hours and chatted with the rookie fireman while his daughter Alissa and Kate played.
I came home and went to the grocery store. While I cooked, Rick redid our patio. We had bought some lights and candles. I wanted a water feature, but we have no electicity out there, so we are limited.

I made shrimp cocktail tonight for an appeitizer. I put crushed ice in a chilled martini glass, layered some lettuce leafs on top, spooned in HOMEMADE cocktail sauce and lined the rim with 8 butterflied shrimp.
Then I grilled steaks, boiled corn on the cob, salad, sauted mushrooms in garlic butter, crusty bread with herb butter I made from my dill in the garden. We moved the table out to the patio and ate...it was really nice and we are now going to have Key lime pie with coffee for dessert...Wow..what a great day!!!

were back hubby had only 3 drinks so I drove..... they gave away 3 awards for retired people who put in 20 years... had a good meal watched some nice door prizes given away... got a nice flower.. then we left

Hey girls...I missed you guys. Sorry I didn't get on last night. Went to a friends house FINALLY do those candy bars. Got them done but ended up playing cards afterwards because DH and his firefighter friends went to someone's house and had a campfire (with one of those outdoor fireplaces) and were hanging out.

Otto's Doll...thanks for the explanation. I've heard of tricky tray and now I know what you're talking about. Did you win anything?

Ginna74...WElcome!!! Did you go to like a banquet for the FD? You were home pretty early, girl. We had our banquet a couple of weeks ago on a Friday. We start the pre-party here at around 3 p.m., went to the banquet and came back to our house AFTER the banquet. (This year people did not leave until 4:30 IN THE MORNING!!!!) Needless to say, I was a little

Betsy....Whoa!!! Sounds like a great time at your house. Love the pictures and glad to see that you planted my namesake in your herbs (Rosemary), LOL. You sound like a great cook!!! Hey, did Rick every wake up???? Jason is a pretty good cook, too. One of his jobs at the store is doing the prepared foods so he learns all sorts of tricks and into cooking like that too. HOpe you had a good night.

Mad4Mickey......how did you sleep last night. Did nephew keep you awake... If he's anything like both of my girls, I can't sleep with either of them. They are ROLLERS!!!! You also mentioned about the thread...I subscribed to it so I get an email everytime someone posts and I also saved it in my favorite places so that I can come back to it whenever. That's how I found it now!!!

WEll, I made it to camp today. NOthing floated away over the winter, LOL. They haven't moved our camper to our new site in the shade yet, but hopefully next week when we start camping they will. I'll have to bring my digital camera out there and send you girls a pic of our sign that is in front of our camper. My BIL made it. It's a pic of my DH as a firefighter with his name under it and our names are pictures of little flames....it's cute.

Okay....well I have to start work now. Yes, that is the reason why I'm up so early on a Sunday morning. See you gals later. (Whew, long post.....)

I almost forgot to tell you the most important thing that happened today. DH got a CANVAS letter from the PAID CITY FD!!!! THey are finally hiring!!!! But now, after waiting 2 years or so DH says he doesn't know if he wants to do it. Can you believe that????

He says there are two reasons.. first is that next year in the VFD he might be chief. If he gets in the paid FD he would be starting again as a probie (newbie) and doesn't know how he would like that. Also, he would be taking about a SIGNIFICANT pay cut but would probably be able to make it up with OT. He likes his paid job now as "prepared food" manager in a grocery store (he has been with that company for over 17+ years-he's only 33......) and he has room for advancement where he could become assistant store manager or eventually store manager. So, I don't know what he is going to do but I told him to do what he feels most comfortable with.

Just thought I'd share this news with my new friends.......

It's raining here, too!!! What's up with that!!!! If you were closer I'd bring over my pontoon boat and I could take you to the store!!! LOL

Also, even though there's not an "official AMBER alert". A 5-year-old girl has been missing from the City of Syracuse since 6 o'clock last night. Really scary. I live in the 'burbs of Syracuse so I'm not in the CITY....so I'm not sure exactly how far it is away from me but it is still SCARY!!!! (it's within 10 miles from where I am I would guess?) I heard it on the news and radio last night but they were saying that they had no official "abduction". She was just missing. I just heard now, though, that they are saying it is an "abduction alert" but I don't see it on my ticker below.

Other than that, not much going on here...just hoping the little girl is found soon.

I just got a carnation but it was cute and had babys breath around it. I actually got two and gave them to my daughter.

My hubby is on the volunteer fire dept here in a little itty bitty town in minneosota.

it was a small dinner .. we had drinks first with 2 bowls of chips and prezzels. they even had wine coolers. And the drinks were beer (from coolers), pop, and a few mixers.

we sat down, talked a bit, had dinner, had awards, then a few door prizes. it was done early but some did stay and drink. They needed help with the chairs today and asked everyone to help before we left. So hubby called today and asked when and he said they got drunk enough last night to do it lol. There had to be what 40 people there only. There was mostly retired firemen. That was the first time we went to a thing like that sense he has been on. it went from 5-9 but a lot stayed later to drink lol. All in all it was neat

No..he didn't wake up for coffee or pie. I finally made him go to bed. I watched some tv and then went to bed too.

We went to the pool again today. Again talked to the rookie..he is actually in the "training" program for Palm Beach County. If he passes all their tests, he is hired. He has a daughter that is Kate's age and he has her on the weekends. We usually see them there. He is a nice kid and my "mother" instinct takes over. He and Rick always chat about the "Business".

Tonight I am making Asian Chicken Breast...I will give you the receipe if you would like to try it.

5 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp hoison sauce ( I find it in the same place as soy sauce)
2 garlic cloves crushed
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp sugar

Mix ingredients together in a baking dish. Add chicken breast and turn to coat. Place plastic wrap over the dish and place in fridge for 1 to 24 hours.
Bake @ 325 for 20 minutes or till done ( Sometimes I use thick breast, sometimes I butterfly them, so they take less time)

Hi Girls....Betsy I understand about the husband sleeping thing. DH came home from camp and then was watching tv and then fell asleep.

The little girl that was missing that I posted about earlier was found tonight ALIVE!!!! about 15 miles away. She was bound and gagged with duct tape and found near an abandoned warehouse under a tarp. The owner(not a suspect) had driven up to check on the place and heard her underneath a tarp!!! How awful. The guy who did this to her is still loose. I thought we lived in a pretty safe place but you never know. Both of my girls knew that the little girl was missing and we had a talk about strangers, etc., tonight. The girl is in the hospital in stable condition. I hope they find this creep and lock him up for good. What kind of people do this and for what reason???? Crazy.

Anyhow, not much more going on here. It's going to be a crazy week this week. Getting ready for the 1st. communion. Have family and friends coming in from out of town. See you gals tomorrow.

Morning...Rick is on duty today so I have the house to myself tonight..Need to start packing and getting ready!!
