I know what you mean. Alot of times he comes home and I say "Take a shower you smell like FIREHOUSE!!!" He doesn't know what I mean but he does it anyway!!!

OUrs never has problems answering calls but others in the area do, especially during the daytime when everyone is at their "paying" jobs.

I know, they asked my DH to become a driver for the Rescue truck and waived the year probation time they typically want before driver training because he works nights and is available during the day. Our department gets a LOT of medical calls, and the rescue truck runs on ALL calls... he is quite busy!

Hello everybody - how is everyone tonight? Terrible storms just missed us and I am so grateful because if they hit my DH would be gone all evening and then he would have to go to work tomorrow - he would have been so tired!!!

Anyway - I saw everyone talking about cigarette smoke. Our FD doesn't allow smoking in the firehouse so I can't relate to that, but I was wondering what you ladies think after your DH comes home from a fire. When my DH smells like smoke it really turns me on - is that wierd??????? I just can't help it though.

Then I saw how you ladies say your husbands "love a good fire". My DH is the same way. He'll say "I could use a good fire" and I tell him to not say that to to many people because they will take it the wrong way. FD people and family can only relate to that one.

Hope all is well you all!!!

Hi Roemama1, The little man in my siggie is my 3 yr old Nephew . I took him to WDW for 8 days for his 3rd birthday . That was taken at the Mickey Halloween party .

My son is 15 and is a wrestler at his high school . Right now we are in Freestyle season . He is 3rd in the state of Texas in his weight class . (Proud Mom moment)

So how many kids and what are the ages does everyone have ?

I have 17 yr DD ( about to graduate in 1 month from high school)
and a 15 yr old DS who will be a Junior next year .

All is well here, Slo. Hubby got back from drill and I heard the usual meeting "chatter from him".

Yeah, and about this fire business....I always tell him he shouldn't say that too much. If there is an actual fire, it is actually someone's house burning down, you know??? Geez, men!!!

Hey there! Well that nephew of yours is certainly the cutest Mickey Firefighter that I've ever seen;) !

Wow...congrats about your son. That is AWESOME!!! I see college scholarship written all over that one!!!! ::yes::

Your daughter is graduating in a month? Wow..school doesn't end here until the week of June 20th or so. What are her plans after school? College/work?

To answer your question...my oldest DD, Jordan, is 8 and DD, Jaylin is 5. The older is in 2nd grade and youngest will start kindergarten next year. She missed the deadline by 3 days. Her birthday is Dec 4 th and the cutoff was Dec. 1st. That's okay with me, though. I get more time with her. They're only little once.

ok here we go ....Dh is home right now and he is in our bed with headphones on watching his portable DVD player in bed ! See now that is when you know that you are married and comfortable with your mate:teeth: He is gone for 24 hours and doesnt need me he only needs his DVD player LOL

My dad was a paid fireman for 27 years. Recently retired. My mom called him one night to our own house on fire. She was home alone. It was horrible, but you should have seen all the firefighters there to help clean up when we got in there. It was an eye opener to see what my dad faces. I saw the video. I left to go back to the dorms that night, but my dad didn't know that. He thought I was still in my room- the one where the fire started and was all ablaze. (ha- Blaize is my son's name. He was named after my great grandfather) But he bravely fought the fire thinking I was gone the whole time. I've only talked to him about it once and it was like 5 seconds. He's my hero!

Nothing makes a kid feel more special than have everyday access to a firetruck. The station was our playground as kids. It was amazing! But I can remember being a teenager coming to the realization of just what it was that my dad did for a living. WOW- to think about it is overwhelming.

Prayers to all those that still do it. And no matter how long he's been retired, there will always be a bond between families of firefighters.

Night girlys . I am enjoying belinging to this new "Clique" LOL

see you guys after work on Wed.

Wow! An actual thread that I can relate to ...and here at the Dis no less. I'll jump in. I'm a proud owner of an almost 20 yr. vet of the L.A. Fire Dept. ;) The best thing is he loves to cook and is great at it. I'm sorry and I mean no offense to others out there working hard at their professions, but there ain't nothing as hot as a fireman in uniform. Anyway, loved reading through the posts. There really is a special bond between firefighting families.

Rick's breath smells like smoke for DAYS after a big fire. Even though he doesn't go into them..if they really get cookin, he inhales enough smoke to make his lungs reek...which is kinda scary.

I have him for tonight and tomorrow night, then he is back on shift. I will be here Friday night for a chat..anyone have AIM ( AOL Instant Messenger) or Yahoo Messenger...I am momme30 on both.

ok..gotta work!

Hey Trishy...
WElcome...come on in and grab a seat!!! Glad you could join us.

I was actually thinking about what you said about the uniform, thing. DH and I have been married for almost 11 years and I still think he is "handsome" (this is a family board;) ) in his turnout gear!!! They also have parading uniforms for the summer and those are pretty "nice" as well.... :teeth: :earseek:

mad4mickey....we love you too!!! See you tonight. (Hey, did you guys check out the new smilies...they're cute).

disneydmbnut....I'm on aol AIM also and I'm Roemama1...(hard to imagine, huh? How original of me....

Hey, speaking of uniforms...our guys are issues standard firefighter helmets but lots of the guys (my DH included) go out and spend $300+ on New Yorker Fire helmets...anyone know what I mean? He drives me nuts..I don't see the difference...anyhow..(done venting).

I'm doing some OT today so I'll see you gals later

My DH has a NY helmet that the Dept. bought when he was first hired..but they have since gone to plastic.

His NY helmet now sits on the entertainment center with his Brass Captains horn that his guys bought him when he was promoted.

Our FD just went over to the NY style of helmets and my DH just got his red helmet this year so he's pretty psyched. He'll be Chief someday, I'm sure, cause it is in his blood somehow. I get really upset with his father cause it never seems that he is proud of him at all. My DH is the only one of his 2 other sibs who is still happily married, works a full time job and then another practically full time job with the FD. Just my ramble, rant for the night. Gotta go watch AI now with my DS cause my DH doesn't like it.

Hey Lezah, glad you stopped in.

I myself am just stopping by quickly to say:wave: I'm off from work tonight and DH is home from his monthly county meeting.

Not much going on here. Did have to help DH go and pick up their heavy rescue truck tonight after being in for some minor repairs. DD, age 5, got to ride home in it with her daddy. (can you say thrilled? ::yes:: :Pinkbounc I only wish I had my digital camera to take a picture so I could share it with you. It was cute.

OUr station has a bunch of a bunch of engines, 2 rescues, a truck. The trucks used to be like DIS lime green but a couple now are red. (they're trying to go back to red and when they go in for service they have them painted red).

So...I guess I'll start the question of the day (anyone else feel free to pipe in at any time) :smooth: What color are your department's trucks???

Hey Betsy...why those are some COOL trucks!!!
