Well - look at that - I was the 1000th post!

Congrats on making the 1000th post :cheer2:

I can't believe this thread has been going this long, it seems like yesterday when I first started it!!!

I have a question!!!
Katie woke up this morning with a new spot on her tummy. She has been on her antibiotic since Friday night - does this mean the antibiotic is not working. My Pediatrician tested her for a Mersa Infection (I'm sure I spelled that wrong) which I guess is an infection that doesn't take to antibiotics and Katie tested negative for this infection. Is it normal for this rash to flare up a little while taking the mediciane?? I will call her doctor today to let them know what is going on.

Hey everyone! It feels like forever since I have stopped by here.

slo - Sorry for all you've been going through with Katie. I've had impetago before and so has DD. I remember it taking a while to clear up, though. - I thought you were going to stop by the Last to Post thread this week. I didn't see you threre. We just hit our 80,000th post this week!

Idroveallnight - Your trip is creeping up. Less than a month to go! :cool1: I wish I was going with you.

Our family had a scare this week. DH (a Sheriff's Deputy) was involved in a standoff. It was a three hour standoff that started with one of his partners being shot. Luckily, his partner is fine. He was shot in the arm and the side. DH ended up in a creek bed for 90 minutes being shot at. He said one bullet went go right by his ear and he was able to hear it go by! The guy shot over 50 times at deputies and officers but luckily he wasn't the best shot. After three hours he surrendered and is being held for psychiatric observation right now.

Congratulations to everyone on hitting the 1,000th post here.

eeyore - Oh my goodness! I am so glad your DH is safe and unharmed. His partner is very lucky!! I'm glad you posted today!!

slo - MRSA is a staph infection that doesn't respond to certain antibiotics. She has already tested negative for that! Impetigo spreads like crazy! It is usually itchy so as she scratches it spreads. I would check in with your MD, but I think it's probably OK. Keep doing frequent baths, using the cream and you may want to put socks on her hands at bedtime so she doesn't scratch in her sleep! Good Luck!

Oh and the congratulations should go to you! You started this wonderful thread!!

Good morning everyone and HAPPY GROUNDHOG DAY!!!! :teeth:

Idroveallnight - I did make a doctors appt today with a new doctor. My normal Pediatrician, who I love, had to go of the country on family emergency (her dad lives in India) and now I feel so alone. Kevin feels that if she has no new spots today, to not take her and see what happens after she finishes the antibiotic. My normal doctor will not be back until the 10th - I'm tempted to make an appt for that day now so I now I can get in if needed. Thanks for the advice!!! Also, thanks for this:

eeyoresmountainpals - thanks for giving me your input about this too, I appreciate it :) I was going to stop by the LTP thread, but I ended up not being able to be on the DIS as much as I wanted. Katie likes to sit on my lap alot when I'm on the computer and it makes it very hard to type. Congrats to you guys for having 80,000 posts - that's amazing!!!! :thumbsup2

I read this and said OMG that's so scary!!!! :scared1: I'm so glad that your DH's partner is fine, but still - HE GOT SHOT - that's so scary!!! How is your DH mentally after all this happened? Is he doing okay, or is he freaked out? I will remember your family in my prayers, because God had a guardian angel with your DH that day and I'm very grateful!!
Also, thank you for this!!
Congratulations to everyone on hitting the 1,000th post here.

Well, I best be going - I have to wake up Stephanie and I'm very anxious for Katie to wake up to see if she has any more spots. Have a good day!!!

slo ~ How was Katie today? Any more spots?? I agree with your idea of making an appointment for the day the doctor returns. That will probably be a crazy day at their office and it'll probably be hard for them to "fit you in." That way you'll already have an appointment!

DH is doing fine. He handles stuff like that pretty well...a lot better than I do!

Idroveallnight ~ You are exactly right....slo deserves some credit for getting this thread started. It's a great thread! Thanks, slo!

Hope everyone has a great Friday tomorrow!

Good morning everyon! Well, Sarah & I are driving to University of Alabama today to tour dorms so she can decide where she wants to live. Totally by chance the girl she has chosen to room with will be there so they will get to meet. SHe is fromTexas. I think it's great! I was driving myself crazy last pm trying to plan going to get passports and then driving up to the school & back as DH & I have our dinner ressies tonite for Ruth's CHris. Luckily, my wonderful DM (thanks Mom!) calmed me down! We will go for passports next week. We already have our pics - let me just say they are very similar to Nick Nolte's mug shots that were shown on t.v. - only our hair looks a little better! Hopefully they will let us into another country!!

slo - how is Katie? Any new spots? How is she doing with taking her medicine? I know you are missing your doctor! Even though the other docs in the group are probably fine, I know you just feel better with the person who knows your children best! You can make the appt for her return & then cancel if she is clear! That way you know you cn see her if you need to!

I am hoping to take time this weekend and finish our daily plans for our trip - I can't believe it is so close! It has gotten much easier though as the kids get older. We will get to see the Braves play the Dodgers while there! We also plan to spend some time at ESPN the Weekend. It also looks like we will get to do EE with a soft opening! I know this trip will be great! But, really, when have I ever had a "not great" trip - it is Disney World!

Good morning and TGIF!!!

Katie didn't wake up with any more spots yesterday and I was very happy :) I also cancelled the doctors appt because we felt there was no sense on going if she only has the one spot. She is on the mediciane until Monday and if she gets more spots over the weekend or after the mediciane is gone, we are definitly going back in. Also, I'm glad you both would make the appt for when my normal doctor comes back too - that makes me feel like I'm not naurotic ;)

I'm glad that your DH is doing well after that terrible day. How is his partner doing? Do your boys know what happened? If I told Stephanie she would FREAK OUT!!!! :scared1: :scared1:

Also, thanks for the what you said about this thread - it warms my heart that I have met you all!!! :cloud9:

How did everything go at the University? Did Sarah like the dorms? Did the girls meet? What does Sarah think of her? I hope the day went great and I hope you are doing well with getting Sarah ready for college - I bet it's really hard!!!

How was Ruth's Chris? Did you and DH have a nice dinner? HOLY COW I am full of questions!!!

She's challenging in the morning, but at night when Kevin is home she takes it great. She loves to impress her Daddy :)

I can't believe it's so close either - I'm so excited for you!!! :cool1: Our trip is in September and I'm already starting to plan - making the itinerary is one of my favorite parts of the trip. Maybe I should have been a travel agent, but only for WDW trips ;)

Well, I've been DISing much to long this morning and I have to get my butt in the shower. Have a good day everyone!!

Idroveallnight ~ I hope you have a wonderful day touring dorms! It seems like only yesterday that I was doing that with DD and now she's in her third year already!!!

slo ~ DHs partner is doing fine and, believe it or not, back to work already. He is on light duty but he didn't want to stay out of work so he's back!

Yes, we did tell the boys what had happened. Matthew (11) was fine with it, no big deal. Andrew (13) had a little trouble with the idea of the whole incident and went through the "what ifs." He must take after me! DD is the one that really had trouble with it. I think the fact that she was away from home it was harder on her. I couldn't get in touch with her Monday morning and had to leave a voice mail saying something like, "call me right away but if you see the news just know that Dad is okay!" It was all over the news! She ended up not getting up until noon and got my message and called me at work. I had to have someone at work cover for me for a little while so that I could step outside and talk to her on my cell phone to try to calm her down. Then Monday night she called DH. I tried to let him have privacy but I could hear him saying things like, "yes, I'm fine." "Yes, I would tell you if I weren't." "No, honest, I'm okay." It was nice to hear because I think I've mentioned before that things are very strained between DH and DD because of the guy she is dating. So, they're both coming around a little!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. Any big Superbowl plans?

Good evening everyone!!!

I'm so glad this week is almost over - it went by really slow.

Tomorrow we are taking the girls to see the Disney On Ice show - The Incredibles. This will be Katie's first ice show and I hope she enjoys it. A couple of my Chicago DIS friends have seen it already and they really liked it, so it should be a fun day.

Kathy - I'm glad that your DH's partner is doing better and is back at work already - modern mediciane always amazes me!!! I'm glad the boys were not to upset about the news of their dad's day, but I feel bad for your poor DD being so scared. It's good your DH had a chance to talk to her and reassure her that he was okay. Also, you never mentioned anything about the guy your DD is dating and how your DH doesn't like him. When you get a chance, you will need to fill us in about that.

Have a good night, and talk to you all later!!

eeyore - great news about your DH & his partner. Aren't boyfriends great???

slo - glad to hear no more spots!

Alabama was fun. Dorms are just dorms - SMALL! She and Katie really hit it off well. Her mom is very nice. They seem like a good normal family. Both girls are majoring in nursing & both want to work in NICU. Both are Catholic. I think they will do well together. It makes me feel better to have met them/ I think Katie will come home with Sarah alot as her family lives in Dallas (9 hour drive) while we are only a 3 hour drive. She may come for a visit over spring break. The campus is just beatiful! And of course we love some Bama football!!

We cancelled Ruth's Chris because we stayed too long at the school so we rescheduled for next Sunday.

DS, James loves a good football party so we will watch the Super Bowl here. Sarah's boyfriend, Miles, will probably come over, too. Of course after that it's Grey's Anatomy!! My favorite show!

Off to plan!!

Good morning everyone!!

I'm doing a quick fly-by before I go into the shower and get ready for the Ice Show.

Idroveallnight - I'm glad you had a good day looking at the dorms and that Sarah and Katie hit it off well :) . I agree with you that it was nice for them to meet ahead of time, this way there are no questions or concerns when they move in together.

Well, I'm off and running. Have a good day everyone!!

My husband just started this VFF about 8 months ago and nothing has been the same. Part of me is proud but most of me is lonely that after 28 years of a solid marriage I am sharing him 24/7 with a siren and radio. And he, like everyone else here knows, is called away for hours at a time. He is now an EMT and just told me he's going to fire school so he can be IN the fires rather than just drive the trucks and do side work. I am not thrilled. I feel like I must be a terrible person for feeling this way when all of you seem to be so happy about this. Why do I feel this way?
After today (he was out for 5 hours) I tried to find someone to talk to about this and I found this chat room. I'm grateful there are other women out there who are living this life. And he does it all for nothing, so his REAL job is going by the wayside....can anyone offer me a hug and advice. I feel so sad..I'm having a pity party of one tonight.

I hear you are proud, but aren't you lonely? And this is to everyone, not you personally....

welcome crow54!! My DH is a career firefighter with a job on the side. Be patient! You will become more adjusted! I think the two lifestyles are very different so I probably can't make you feel too much better about being the wife of a VFF! Just know that we are here and you can come any time!! I certainly don't mind you needing a pity party!! There are lots of times I hate my husband's career choice!! Hang in there!! Visit often!!

Good morning everyone!!

When it rains, it pours with sick children in my house. Last week it was Katie and today it is Stephanie. The poor thing woke up at 4am with a stomach bug and her stomach does not want to settle down :crazy2: (if you know what I mean). I have a feeling it's going to be a long day.

Yesterday we went to the Disney On Ice Show - The Incredibles, and it was great :thumbsup2 . Much better than I expected!! Katie really enjoyed her first ice show. She's a real huge fan of Mickey and Minnie and they were in this show more than others, which was great for her ::MinnieMo ::MickeyMo pluto: .

crow54 - :welcome:
Welcome to The DIS and welcome to this thread. Please come by often for friendly talk :hyper2: and support - we are a great group. I'm sorry you are having a hard time adjusting to your DH's new schedule :grouphug: How does your VFD work? Is he considered a probationary officer for 2 years and then has to get voted on by his fellow FD members? This is how it is in our dept, and therefore the guys have to really prove themselves in their first 2 years, which means they are never home :sad2: . I can assure you that eventually life will get better when you get used to the change. I used to get lonely and frustrated. I would make this big wonderful meal and as soon as we would sit down to eat, the pager goes off :guilty: Or, as soon as we would be ready to go somewhere, the pager goes off :guilty: You have to keep telling yourself (at least I did) that he is doing this to help other people, and even though it is hard for us wives, we have to adjust and understand. My DH has been on the dept for 8 years now, and I would be lying if I said that I don't get frustrated still, because I do, just not nearly as often  Hang in there, and we he's away on a call, go the computer and DIS - just make sure you stop by here, we would love to get to know you!!! :)

Idroveallnight - Hi there!!! :wave2:

I better go check on Stephanie - have a good Super Bowl Sunday everyone!!

Good Monday morning :surfweb:

Stephanie is feeling better today and is going to school. I told her that I would drive her though so she wouldn't be stuck on the bus if she got quezzy (sp?) Plus, she doesn't have to rush as much, since we can leave later when she's a car rider ;)

Have a good day!!!

Well good Monday morning! I know, I know - that's an oxymoron! Unless of course said Monday morning happens in WDW!

slo - I hope the girls are all better - and that mom and dad don't get sick also! Ihope ya'll have a much better week this week!

Have a great week!

Have you started packing yet???

slo - glad to hear ya'll are better! We haven't started packing yet! I am making lists of what we need. I am going to order from Garden Grocer this trip for our in room eats and see how it goes! I think the big thing is to prepare for all weather! Hot, cool, cold...rain... :sunny:
