Good morning everyone!! Well, this is my last day to work before my Christmas break!! I don't have a cool dancing Santa so I'll just be a dancing banana!!

Has everyone finsihed their shopping? I have - I'm just ready to have some down time with the kids. Watch some Christmas movies, see some lights... They are having parties at school today. We have a half day tomoorow, but I think we may just stay home! All they will do is watch movies, etc...

Have a great day!!

Good morning everyone!! :cold:

We survived Target last night - there was a lot of people there, the toy area was like a tornado hit it, the lines were not to long, and now I can officially say - I'M DONE WITH MY SHOPPING!!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Tonight Stephanie and I are going to start baking our X-Mas cookies :goodvibes I'm looking forward to testing them to see if they taste good :teeth: And I wonder why I'm gaining weight :confused3 ;)

Idroveallnight - Enjoy your X-Mas break!! :cool1: 2 more days for me

Well, I gotta run - have a good day everyone!!

This is my last work day before Christmas and I'm very excited!!! I'm hoping the store was not busy last night and didn't take alot of orders

. This is the time of the season that I come home from work very tired - the stress of making sure that everyone gets their gifts in time is more stressful than what people realize. But this is my 18th Christmas with the store, so I guess I'm used to it.

Well, I guess I better go jump into the shower

Have a good Friday everyone!!

slo - I hope your last day at work is smooth! I am also officially finished! We have my family party tonight. Jim has to work 24 hours on Christmas eve, so I will take the kids to church without him tomorrow. I like to go to Mass on Christmas eve so that there is no fight about leaving the toys! We will have to wait till Jim gets home to see presents! I hope the kids will sleep till about 7 so I don't have to hold em back too long!!

Well, I'm officially done with work until Tuesday  The orders kept coming, but we prevailed and got the work done. It always amazes me every year how people wait until the last minute to get custom picture framing done :earseek: . Oh well, I'm just glad it's all done for another year!!

I am now baking chocolate chip cookies with Stephanie. This is the first year that I got premade dough instead of making Nestle Tollhouse's - the premade dough is so much more convient for me. I don't think Stephanie cares either way, she just likes to help in the kitchen :teeth: .

Tomorrow is going to be a busy day for me. My MIL & FIL are coming over for dinner and I have the whole house to clean and a few presents still to wrap. Even though it's busy, it's still a great day!!!

My oven timer is calling me - time to take out the cookies. Talk to you tomorrow!!

Happy cookie baking!! We had our family party last night and it went well. My niece Haley (13) got a five day ticket (from my parents) to WDW so she will be coming with us over Mardi Gras. We are so excited! She has never gotten to come with us! She went once when she was 5, so it's been awhile! James & Emily & I went to get the groceries for Christmas dinner/lunch. Jim will have to work mandatory OT tomorrow so we have to eat early. It's really a bummer, but at least he'll get to come home in the am and go back for the pm. You would think a fire department this big could handle a holiday without having to make people work OT!! So he is working 24 hours today and will have to work 12 tomorrow! OK - I'm done complaining!! :sad2: Sarah is at work today - she works at a toy store in the mall! She'll be off at 3 so we'll go to Mass after that! Then we start the long countdown & the begging for gifts!!

Ok - so do ya'll open gifts on Christmas Eve or Day? We open on Christmas Day. We have a tradition of the kids begging until they get to open one on Christmas Eve!

Well, I'm just babbling endlessly!! :rotfl:

Merry Christmas everyone!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas day.

Idroveallnight - I'm sorry that your DH has to work today. I know all too well what that is like. This is the first year that we can remember that DH has had both Christmas and Christmas Eve off and we're enjoying every minute of it. Last night he jokingly said that he felt like should go put his uniform on and sit through dinner with it on since he usually is on duty!

Traditionally, we open all gifts on Christmas Eve!! Christmas morning the kids get to see what Santa brought. DH got me a laptop and it was a total surprise. He even did all the wiring for wireless internet in the house. He's never pulled of a surprise like this before!!! I'm so thrilled!!!!

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!!!

I'm a little late to the thread, but I'm the wife of a career firefighter and yes, I'm very, very proud of what he does. He's been with the department almost 11 years now.

As his second job (don't they all have one?), he's a licensed real estate inspector, which works out pretty well, since I'm a real estate agent!

He managed to be off this Christmas, but he works next year. :firefight

AM I THERE YET:we have something in common! I am married to a full-time firefighter and I'm a Realtor!! I am married to one of the few full-timers that does NOT have a second job. He jokes all the time that his "second job" is as my nanny & housekeeper!! Our agreement when he took the job 5 years ago was that he would be there for our DD7 on his days off so I can manage the real estate office I work at.

When his department was looking for 2 people to go to New Orleans to help the NOFD after Hurricane Katrina, he was one of the few guys who could go at a moments notice because he did not have to make arrangements at a second job. I really appreciate now just how much my husband does so I can manage the office. Those 15 days were very difficult!! He keeps saying he is getting his real estate license and I just want him at home!!! I am taking over as managing Broker in March and I am so glad he is only gone 8-9 days a month.

He is on duty today but has both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day off next year. He was on a paid-on-call department for 11 years before he went full-time where he is now.

I don't know if I have ever posted on this thread before but I look forward to meting all of you!!!

Welcome amIthereyet and graywife!!

I am also the wife of a firefighter. His second job (well I guess third if you count all the OT) is a landscaping business. I hope ya'll both visit often!

slo- I am so glad ya'll got to spend both days together! My DH is putting his uniform on to go back and work OT. I am thankful that he was home today! It was hard making the kids wait until 7:20!! We do everything on Christmas morning. It's always a sea of wrapping paper & gifts! We surprised Sarah with a laptop! We still have to get a wireless router. Emily's highlight gift was her kitten. James' favorite was his gun - a combo shotgun/rifle. He is old enough to really hunt with his dad. I do have a very experienced safe husband so it will be locked away in the gun sfae until they go hunting. Hunting/fishing are such a way of life in the South. It does put food on the table so i won't complain. Sarah has no interest in hunting, Emily thinks she might like to bow hunt, but James wants to do it ALL!!

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Hello everyone!!!

I hope everyone had a great holiday this year and continue to have a great holiday season until 2006.

I had a great holiday this past weekend. Kevin, on the other hand, had a very busy weekend with FD. He has had so many calls the last couple of days that he's now very tired. Then, at 2am this morning, his work called and needed him to come in because there was a fire in the plant. He's very very tired. Thank goodness we all went to bed last night at approx. 9:15pm so he had a little sleep before he was called.

The girls had a great Christmas with many, many, many, many, many, many presents. They have no idea how lucky they are to be so blessed with so many wonderful things.

I was very blessed too - Kevin got me another Disney Big Figurine so now I have 4 Mickeys, 1 Minnie, 1 Lilo, 1 Stitch, and 1 whole group with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Pluto - I just love these statues!! He also gave me a Ruby w/ Diamond Tennis Bracelet - it's very beautiful - Rubies are my absolute favorite!!!

Idroveallnight - Sounds like your children had a fantastic Christmas. What does your DH and DS hunt? My neighbor, a fellow Firefighter, is really big in hunting and hunts deer. He hangs them in his garage to drain and then he cuts the meat himself. I've only seen the deer from the road, but Kevin and Stephanie go over there and look at it

GRAYWIFE & Am_I_There_Yet - Hello and welcome to our thread!! Please come by often and chat, we'll love to have you!!

Well, I'm going to go put a frozen pizza in the oven - I hope you all have a good rest of the day!!

Good morning everyone!!

Well, I'm heading back to work today after a really nice 3 days off. I always dread working the week after X-Mas because we are always so slow :guilty: But Katie has a really bad cold and because of it, I'm only going to work until 1 or 2 today.

Have a good day everyone!!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!

My DH had a landscaping business for eight years, before he decided it would eventually put him in the ground. He figured (at the ripe old age of 35) that he was getting too old for it and decided to go into the inspection business. Now he has to suffer inside 150 degree attics in the summer. :confused3

I can't say I blame you at all! DH has a seven-year old daughter and when he's at the station, she's here with me, and my work comes to a grinding halt. I have her all week and when DH isn't at the station, he has an inspection booked, so guess who won't get much work done??

Good for him, for getting to go. Our FD sent out several men, but mine wasn't one of them, mainly for the exact opposite reason that yours was able to go. I know several other FF wives across the country, who's DH's went and I remember one of them taking on gunfire while out trying to help. His wife was beside herself at home.

I guess you becoming the managing broker will give you more steady hours, at least? Congrats on that!

Mine is back on duty today too. Next year's schedule looks rough as far as the holidays go, but hey, that's part of being a firefighter! You take the good, with the bad. I wouldn't change a thing about it!

Good morning everyone!!

Today is Kevin's birthday :cake: :bday: and he is staying home from work (lucky) and Stephanie is staying home with him. I felt kinda bad this morning because my hand fell asleep while I was sleeping and I couldn't turn the alarm clock off and he's trying to sleep. He must not have heard it because he's still sleeping. I don't know why I feel bad though because for 8 years now his FD pager goes off in the middle of the night everytime he has a call - I guess it was my turn to make some noise ;) ;)

Am_I_There_Yet - I'm glad you came back!! This thread has been going for over a year now and it's been so much fun meeting new people.

Well, I better go and get ready for work. I'm hoping to only work for a short while today so Kevin, Stephanie and I can go out for a nice lunch. Katie has had a really bad cold though, so if she's still not feeling well, then I guess we'll go out for lunch another time. Have a good day everyone!!

slo - well Happy Birthday to Kevin & I hope he gets some much needed birthday rest!! Jim prefers to hunt deer, but has done alot of hog (wild) hunting, dove turkey... We really want to send him to Canada to hunt something big. It just hasn't worked out yet! I have family in Canada. I have been back at work since Monday & it is finally slowing down. I have to work the night clinic tomorrow so I hope it stays slow!

Good morning everyone!!

Idroveallnight - thanks for the Happy BD wishes for Kevin. He had a very nice day yesterday!! Stephanie and him went out to breakfast, and then they made a puppet show out of the box our new dishwasher came in, I made him the birthday dinner he requested (spagetti pizza casserole), we bought Krispy Kreme doughnuts and I put a couple of candles in one and we sang Happy Birthday (I buy him a BD cake on New Years Eve when our whole family is over), and then he opened his presents (one item being the second season of Miami Vice, I bought him the first season for X-Mas, he loves that show!!). So he had a very nice day!!!

Well, I better go, I hear Katie in the baby monitor and I haven't even started getting ready for work yet. Have a good day!!!

slo - it sounds like a great day! I used to have a poster of Don Johnson (Miami Vice) in my locker! How old does that make me?? I am enjoying the kids being out of school - only me to get ready & I don't have to leave until 20 minutes before work.
I work all day & then the night clinic today so I will be crabby all day!! Hopefully we won't be there too late! I'm off tomorrow :goodvibes and then work all day & late again Saturday! Luckily I've reached that point in my life where I don't do a whole lot on New Year's Eve!! Then that is the end of my holiday schedule! I have to work at least one day for the next 4 weekends - but then I don't have any nights or weekends in February (I won't miss any Mardi Gras parades!) plus we leave the 27th for WDW!! :earsboy:

Have a great day!!

I just wanted to extend an invitation to anyone who may be interested in joining a few ladies from across the country, who are all the wives of paid, vollie, or Dept. of Forestry firefighters. It's our way of supporting one another and venting when we need to. Okay, there's a lot of venting.

We used to have a public board that had a write-up in Redbook Magazine. That site went down and one of our Florida ladies started a new one on MSN. It's private and she has to approve you (we had some people join just to try to sell us stuff), but if you're interested I can pass on her info to you.

We're a great bunch! :cheer2:

I was here at home going crazy while he was gone. Richie was told at 6pm he was not selected to go but they wanted him to cover a guy at the station so he could go home to pack and make arrangements. He goes in at 6:30pm & I watched the news at 9pm that said they were shooting at firefighters and I was so glad he was not going. He called home at 9:30pm and said one guy backed out and they wanted him to go. Because he is married the chief said it was my call if I was ok with him going then he was to get home and pack. I said yes but then I was sick wondering if he gets hurt, sick or anything it would be my fault!! We are so proud of what he did. My Dh and I are joined at the hip and everyone was shocked that I let him go!!

About taking over as the managing Broker...I have been running the office for 4 years now...all that changes is that I am the OFFICIAL Broker and therefore responsible for everything. DD was at the office with me yesterday and she was really good but it is so much easier when she is home with daddy. :)
