Please post your opinion about using the Deluxe after you've done so.

Did you eat three TS meals a day, or did you most often do two?

Did you feel you spent too much time in restaurants?

Did you use all your credits?

Would you do it again? Why or why not?

Any other thoughts from those of you who did it before are welcome!

I'm taking the opportunity to go to the signature restaurants so I'm usually doing a late breakfast/early lunch and then a signature 2TS dinner. I go on vacation for the whole experience so meals are also a part of a vacation experince for me and do not detract from the park time. If you enjoy meals out than I think deluxe is the way to go.

In April, we did mostly 2 credit TS for dinner and one credit TS for breakfast. On days we had no signature meal planned, we did 3 meals a day (all TS), and still loved it!! Not too much food at all. We did not find it was too much food - we have to eat. When we did the regular dp in the past we found that it was too much food, because of the CS meals. The CS food gets old and boring, plus it takes as much time to do a CS as it does a TS. We also with the regular dp paid OOP for some meals (CRT and HDDR), just so we could have enough TS credits to last the whole trip. With delux dp all the credits can be used for TS if you choose, so there is no OOP. In short, we love love love the delux dp!!

We have just got back from 6 days of DDP - and we loved it!

We had a late breakfast (10.30) - best being the buffets at Boma and Captains Grill and then all our evening meals were signature dining - the winner being the totally awesome California Grill.

can't wait to do it all again!

Just got home 2 days ago & used the Deluxe Plan. We thought it was way too much food & both gained too much weight in one week of the deluxe eating!

We did use all our credits and spent many of our snack credits on mickey rice crispy treats that we brought home for others (and enjoyed our self last night as we went over pictures from the trip).

If you go with this plan, I recommend utilizing table meals that use 2 credits (like Cali Grill and the Fantasmic Pkg at Brown Derby). And give yourself freedom to switch to a table service or skip a meal if you feel you are overbooked or too full, just be flexible and adjust as you go. We used the deluxe plan as an opportunity to try a lot of different restaurants & food, and often just ate a few bites and moved onto the next course, without feeling bad about not eating more off our plates. We also enjoyed getting the appetizers, sometimes these are the best tasting food choices on the menu (like Kona pot stickers, Brown Derby Cobb salad, and Cali Grill 3 cheese flatbread) which are not included in the basic plan. We are really debating on what to do next time, I'm planning on going through our receipts form the trip & adding it all up to see if we really saved enough based on what we would actually order again. It was worth trying for us, but we may very well go back to the basic plan next time.

I just got back from a solo trip using the deluxe plan and didn't find it was too much food - because I am a big believer in only eating until I am full. But I did find there were too many meals. I love signature restaurants and ate at several. But my overall experience is that for me, when going alone, one character breakfast is probably enough in one week. I also found that sometimes I would have preferred to eat two or three appetizers rather than one and an entree at a signature restaurant. I also found myself worrying when I just wanted to pick up a hot dog at Casey's that I was "wasting" expensive credits. So over all what I am saying is that I didn't want to have to think about the darn dining plan all the time.

Yes I love food and yes I am a foodie. But I am not a huge eater with someone to share food. So I think in the future I will go without the plan. then if I feel like just having a salad and an appie I can. I am at WDW to get away from "i shoulds" and I found the plan - for me - kept me thinking I should do this or do that. jmo...

I have Captains Grille Break on my ADR! Noticed they have break buffet as well as regular menu....You were happy with Break Buffet? Also, have Kona on it...Can't wait for those macadamian nut pancakes!

:goodvibes

I have a question for you experienced deluxers - do children on the deluxe dining plan get a refillable resort mug, too? Just curious. :) Our family of 4 (which includes a 7 and 5 year old) is doing the deluxe plan in September. TIA :goodvibes

Yes they do!!! Such a wonderful perk of the delux dp. We did delux in April, and all 5 of us (2 adults, 3 kids) got ours - a whopping deal that would have been around $70.00 (forgot the exact amount, sorry). Anyway, the refillable mug is wonderful.

We just got back from 6 nights/ 7 days on DxDP and really enjoyed the freedom of it. We were never hungry and used our snacks mainly at Goofy's Candy company in DTD for many of the snacks and make your own candy and brought it home with us. (I'm getting ready to eat one now. )But we also used it for frozen drinks and some snacks in the park too.

We did two signature dining restaurants but we also were there for our entire first day of arrival and last day leaving so I was able to stretch out meals for those days as well. I had one credit left but that is only because on our last day, we overslept and missed breakfast at Chef Mickey's (D'oh :rolleyes1 ) I tried using the credits at the bakery before we left to take a few things for the drive home and I thought I was getting 2 separate counter service meals but when the cashier rang it up, only used one credit. (I got 2 drinks, 2 desserts and a sandwich and a fruit and cheese plate) That should have been 2 credits in my opinion so I don't feel like I wasted anything still.

Overall, we were able to try many new restaurants, take much needed breaks when we were tired and wanted a nice cool restaurant to relax. We didn't always finish what was on our plate (especially at O'hana dinner - OMG there were enough leftovers to feed a small country) but we ate what we wanted and enjoyed it tremendously.

We tried it once. We would do an early lunch (not breakfast eaters) and then a late signature. It was way too much food, even without finishing every serving and we were miserable halfway through the vacation and began cancelling some of the ADR's. We also found that having two TS meals per day ate up a lot of time.

How did you feel about the gratuities. Although the meals were pre paid, did you still feel you were spending a lot of money on the gratuities because you were eating all TS? I am going with a party of 6. They auto add 18% to every check. Should I plan for $40 - $60 in tips for every meal?

We did 7 days of Deluxe dining just about a month ago... Me, DH, and Ds (4)... For most days we did a TS character breakfast and a TS dinner... a few days in there we did a TS lunch... And we did a few 2 TS meals (CRT and Poly Luau.. Spirit of Aloha...)

We did NOT feel like it was too much food, but we also didn't eat the entire appetizer and dessert...we rarely completely cleaned our plates. We are very early risers, so having breakfast really early (like by 8am) was the key to our ability to use the plan successfully...

We used all of our meals, and on the last night had 13 snack credits which we used to get stuff for breakfast for our last day and for a few mickey rice krispy treats....

We didn't spend too much time in restaurants....We looked at it as a much welcomed break from the heat and the hustle and bustle.

It really depends on your eating habits.... if you typically eat 3 squares a day, you should be fine with the DxDP... all that walking at Disney works up quite the appetite! It's also nice to know that aside from tips you won't have any OOP food costs while you are there!!
We would ABSOLUTELY do it again and we plan to do so next trip!
