Calling all Chicago DISers #3

HI FRIENDS!!!!
:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

I haven't been on here in so so long.
I just wanted to check in and let all those that I don't see on facebook know that I'm still alive and kicking.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I hope all is well with everyone, and that 2012 is starting out well for you.

Things with us are okay....
The economy isn't great for my business, and the rising gas prices continue to take business away from me. I used to say that I was going to close when gas went back to $4 a gallon, and now that the media is talking about $5 a gallon, I don't know what to think. I had a good friend tell me to keep it in God's hands (Sue), and I need to take her advice and do that :)

The kids are busy, which means my life is no longer my own.
Stephanie is now in 7th grade and is in choir, show choir, student council, CCD, and is finishing up her basketball season. Pretty soon spring soccer will start, and that will take a lot of time too.
Katie is now in 2nd grade, and she's in CCD, Brownies, chess club, and pretty soon softball will be starting.
We are constantly running running running!!!!! :faint:

I know I always say that I need to be on here more, but then time gets away from me, and it doesn't happen

Take care my friends, and hopefully I'll be back soon!!!

so good to see you here slo !!

thanks for catching us up on what has been going on with your side of the world.

i have fb but never use it except for hhn events.
and then, only seldom to make contact with other hhn homies.

fb has never had the appeal to me as it has to others.

so you know i am thrilled you dropped in here today!

It is so good to see some old friends popping here. I really miss how busy this board used to be!

Lori

It is so windy here today - my electricity at work keeps going on and off - it's kind of annoying :upsidedow

My life lately seems like I'm always having something go wrong - it can get really stressful, because I feel like I can't catch a break. Last night was one of those times. I was sitting in my car for 45 minutes - totally alone :goodvibes watching Eclipse on my ipad, while waiting for the girls to be done with Religious Ed. I had locked my doors, because I'm paranoid like that, and when it was time for me to unlock the doors to let the girls in, the doors wouldn't unlock. Naturally I start freaking out to myself, because WTH???? I tried starting my car - nothin:headache: The car was completely dead. I tried calling Kevin - no answer (he was at FD training). I tried again - no answer. I tried my neighbor who was with him - no answer. Finally I texted him telling me to call right now, of which he did. He couldn't come, but my FIL could, but not for awhile. Luckily, one of the teachers saw what was happening, and came to my aid and jump started my car :thumbsup2 Thank God for him!!! So, now I need to close the store early today, so I can go home, so Kevin can go get a new battery for my car. I know this is just a little something, but when you have these little somethings almost everyday - it gets really annoying!!!:headache::headache:

On the upside though, tonight is the 2nd to the last basketball game for Stephanie:dance3::dance3::dance3: and then we are going out to dinner with friends afterwards - it should be a nice evening!!:goodvibes

Mac - It's good to see you too!!!

momto1 - This board did used to be so busy - like 2 or more pages in 1 day busy :) I sorta miss that too sometimes ::yes::

Well, I must finish my lunch - yes it's 3pm, and I'm just finishing my lunch (I wanted to eat later since I'm not having dinner until 7:30pm) and get back to work. Plus, my little Katie will be coming home in a couple of minutes.

Speaking of my little Kate, please keep her in your thoughts and prayers for her Podiatrist appointment tomorrow. I'm so nervous she's going to be casted for an inflammed growth plate. She is in so much pain every day, and it breaks my heart, because an 8yr old shouldn't have to have constant pain :sad1: Maybe I shouldn't be nervous about casting - it would help her, I just know how much it's gonna kill her to not be able to do anything. I'll keep you posted on how it goes.

Have a good day!!!

i have katie on my prayer list.
it's good that you shared your request.

i do miss the old days when i would come to this thread first thing each morning.

i dearly miss all my homies here..

btw slo, how's the diet going?

i think it was 2 years ago when you mentioned that was one of your ny resolutions.

for me, i have been off and on the diets ever since then....

Thanks Mac!!!:goodvibes

I have made alot of life changes when it comes to my food, so I can be at peace when I eat. I watch what I eat every day, and many days I will splurge and have more (like tonight when we go out with our friends). As long as I stay the size I am now, and not gain anything else, than I'm happy:thumbsup2 I used to exercise a lot too, but due to many aches and pains I've developed, my doctor has told me to subside from the running, and other things I was doing. Hopefully when I get those things fixed, I will be able to workout again like I used to.

I remember our morning check-ins ::yes::
I still go on the computer every morning before the kids get up, but I check my facebook. I use that as a large news, entertainment, religion, and of course friends updates. I really want to try to be involved here more again, so I can see all those that I don't see on facebook. I'm not sure if that will be everyday, but I definitly want to do it more :thumbsup2

Here's a couple of somewhat recent pictures

This was at Stephanie's Christmas choir concert.
It's hard to believe that she is that little girl in my signature picture.
Katie is also in this picture

This was at The American Girl Cafe for Katie's 8th birthday celebration

My girls are getting so grown up :):sad1:

slo, you look the same.

only thing that has changed on you are your eyeglass frames.

Good Morning,

Wow reading the posts I see everyone is about as crazy as I am. The older my kids get...the more I have to do.

My son in High School is in Marching Band (and they marched in the Disney parade on Main Street on January 2nd) which keeps me really busy. Spirit wear coordinator and 50/50 coordinator.

My Daughter, now in 3rd grade. She is in Brownies and I'm her co- leader. She finished Cheer leading and gymnastics and is starting softball soon.

Slo- I love the pictures of you and your girls. So Pretty!!

Hope everyone has a great day!!

Morning everyone!! Good to see some ChiDisers back here again. Yes, everyone does seem to have busier lives now. Funny how the older the kids get the more running around there is to do. DD is in ballet 3 days a week plus is preparing now for Peter Pan with Indiana Youth Ballet on Sundays. At school she is involved in track, NJHS, and ShowChoir. We'll be running til April. Just glad Peter Pan is in IL and not far from our house this time. That week of the show is really hectic if I have a long drive to get her to all the final rehearsals. She has confirmation coming up and all that end of 8th grade year has to bring-dance, boat trip, and field trip to Washington, D.C., and graduation. She is one busy young lady. My DS is in TaeKwonDo 4 days a week, choir, and IMSA. There is never a dull moment.
No plans for a Disney trip in my future.:sad2:But I'm working on that!:thumbsup2Maybe a moms only again in the fall.
Good to hear from everyone again. Hope we can keep this thread moving once again. Always loved to hear from all of you and what you are up to.

Well, we went to the Podiatrist today, and he told Katie that she needs to be in a boot for 6 weeks - she is not happy!!!:sad1::sad1::sad1: The good news is, that she should be up and running for softball. She gets the boot either tomorrow or Monday (they had to order it) poor thing. She is very overwhelmed by all this, and was tears the minute we left the doctors office. She can't do gym, recess, or anything fun - she said she's going to feel so left out:sad1: I just hope this month goes by fast for her benefit:wizard:

Disneynut - Thanks!!!:goodvibes
How fun that your son marched at WDW :cheer2:
How does your daughter like Brownies? Katie LOVES it!!!:lovestruc

Tigggggggggggggggern - I didn't know Kelly was in Show Choir - how does she like it? Stephanie LOVES it!!!:lovestruc They are getting ready for their Spring concert now.
We have no Disney trips planned in our future either :sad1:

Mac - Yeah..I don't change much :sad2: I do switch between 4 different pairs of glasses, so that's all the changing I do ;)

I gotta run and make a LONG sign for Stephanie's last basketball game tonight. They didn't win a single game, so I'm making them a sign that says
WE LOVE OUR 7th GRADE GIRLS!!!!!
I'm sure it will embarrass the hell out of her  but I don't care, cause deep down, I think they will all appreciate it :thumbsup2

Have a good day!!

I'm still very new to this board so I'm just finding this. Beach Park here! wahoo!

WELCOME!!!! :banana::banana::banana::banana:

This thread has been around for a long time, and you are more than welcome to join us :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes We look forward to getting to know you

is so nice to come to this thread and see homies here.

i have missed all of youse............!!

not much different for me and my four walls.

still busy all the time.

it's either work, parental units, sons at home, sons not at home, sick cats and life in general that keep me tied up some days.

i booked my motherland vacation in early february for my fall trip.
(trip #21.)
got a 30%, maybe it was 40% pin code for room only.

today, visa cc holders can do the free dining for late summer, early fall.
thinking of switching it to a package but it might not be worth it.
this year you have to buy 2 base tickets with that package.

i won't necessarily come out ahead with doing that.

what to do, what to do......

did book the darkside portion of my vacation last December so i'm all set for hotels for 17 nights.

was looking for air since late december and it is crazy.
fares have gone up to a figure i have not paid in over 7 years.......

well, with what i have saved in hotel costs will be applied to the air fares..........

catch all you homies after work tomorrow...

You're all still alive!!! OMG, I've been so worried! Where have you all been?!? LOL!!!

Carol and I are still plodding along. Trying to fit WDW in where we can, which doesn't seem to be much these years. We sailed on the Wonder to Alaska last summer. Then in September we sailed on the DVC member cruise (had a nice chat with Claire Bilby. I think the club is in good hands).

Got home from the member cruise and was back at O'Hare 12 hours later for a flight to SF for a conference. Home from the conference to make it to oldest DD's wedding 12 hours later.

Next it's off to Hawaii on the Wonder next month. And then were booked on the Wonder through the Panama Canal next year. Determined to make it back to WDW yet.

Hope everyone is doing well. Good luck to Katie and her boot.

:wave2:I was gonna say that we are the same and nothing much has happened here.. but....then I realized how long it has been and lots has happened..

DS#2 graduated high school and left for U of Ill Champaign.. he is doing well, still together with HS GF , she is at same U and 2 doors down from him in the dorm..we have been driving down and back ..he is still working at Legoland when he is home on breaks..

DS#1 graduates college in june.. ( yep:scared:) took classes last summer at UIC had a bus pass and Metra pass..so he went all over and had a grand time..

So this sept was the first time since before kids..that we were empty nesters.. just us and the cat:thumbsup2

so to celebrate we went to Alaska on the Wonder with the kids, sort of a last harrah ..Geof had finals on Aug 5, left Aug 6 and Eric needed to be at U of Ill August 17..a very small window.. but we had fun in Vancouver anb Alaska..really glad we did it....drove them off to college.. and

Went on the Dream in November with a few days at WDW..
then went on the Wonder Mexican Riveria in January .. why?? Our anniversay and because it was real real cheap.. and DS#1 was in Ethopia , so it kept my mind off all the things that could go wrong..

and we are going to Hawaii on the Wonder in October..

IT'S ALLLLLLLLLLIIIIIIIIIIIIIVVVVVVVVVVVVE! OUR THREAD IS ALIVE!!!

Oh how I have missed you all so much! A lot of new things on my end here, I am currently 2 shimees from going insane. I am working 3 jobs! Yes, three. I am working full time as an office manager for a physical therapist, part time at the Disney store, and I am now an independent travel expert for Disney! Needless to say, I don't get on here as much as I like too! Like many of you mentioned, I also miss coming here first thing every morning. I'll try if you do...

Oh and my poor car is on it's last legs (or should I say wheels). A couple of weeks ago I had to get new brakes which was fine but then the guys at the shop said come spring and summer I should probably start looking for a new one because the entire bottom is completely rusted and she most likely won't make it through another winter. I felt so bad. She's only 12 years old and has 60,000miles. Well, then about 2 weeks ago, it started making an obnoxiously loud sound any time I hit the gas. I called my uncle who is a mechanic to get a second opinion of my beloved's health and well being. He had her for about 2 days, but on a new exhaust pipe and muffler. Said while she is very rusty, she runs well and if I have any problems to call him rather than taking it to the shop down the street. He will make her last as long as possible. That made me feel much better as I need her for at least another 1.5 years until Mike's car is paid off.

Let's see what else is new here... oh I have another nephew. He was born on December 23. Super cutie. Mike and I have two Disney(ish) trips planned. We are going to HHI in May with my sis-in-law. We are driving. First time going. I'm excited for our day trip to Savannah so I can eat at the Lady and Sons. I've heard mixed reviews of it but I :lovestruc Paula Deen. I'm also excited because Chef Robert Irvine has a restaurant on Hilton Head Island. If you haven't noticed... I really like food. :rotfl: The in September we are going to the motherland for Night of Joy. We are bringing some friends of ours from church. They have a 3 year old boy and have never been so we are all very excited. I make ADRs for that in 9 days... wait.. what day is today... 3/1... yes, 9 days.. 3/10.

Oh and I just started a blog. www.confessionsofamouseaholic.com because I have so much time on my hands. LOL

Ok so I've written a novel here. I apologize. I'm just so happy this thread is back!!!

Slo - Katie is in my prayers. It's definitely a bummer she can't even go to recess with her friends anymore. I hope she gets better very soon! Thanks for sharing the pics.

DisneyNut - I remember marching in the parade at Disney. It really is a magical event. I'm glad your son got to experience it!

Mac - I got your PM. Sorry I never got to give you a call. Life has been crazy busy lately. The good news is we did find two great flights on AA. Only paid $5 more each way than Southwest, we got to pick our seats AND they were waaaaaay better times. I'm glad I didn't settle.

4ucullen - :welcome: I'm not quite sure where Beach Park is but I sure do like the name! I'm in Orland (which isn't too bad of a name.. I just add an 'o' to the end and pretend I'm in Orlando. Sorry, I'm really usually not this weird. But this is a great group!

Tigg - your daughter sounds incredibly busy. I'm exhausted just reading what all she does.

Crissup - Sounds like you've been doing a lot of flying and cruising. Will you be stopping at Aulani while you are ported in Hawaii?

Geffric - sorry I was writing my novel when you posted. It sounds like you have been enjoying being empty nesters and cruisin'. :)

Oh one more thing. We added another member to our family. Her name is Fiona. She and Minnie had a bit of a hard time getting along at first but they are civil now and occasionally I will find them laying near each other. :lovestruc
