Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Hi all. Quickly stopping in.

Kim: hope your mom is doing a bit better.

Sandy: I know what you are talking about when you said you were very busy. We have been excuse the phrase but busting butt trying to clean up and fix up the house to "please" the Realtor. We had to buy a new carpet steamer (0n our card) because of our cats. The oldest one is having problems with going on the carpets so we had to steam clean it 6 times to get out the smell and stains.

She is 16 and our 15 yr old cat spits up sometimes when she eats too much or too fast. So it sure comes in handy. We have had Jasmine and Bambi since they were kittens and I can not put them down just for that. They are healthy good cats except for that. Of course they can not go into the kitchen to make their messes where it can be wiped up- no they have to go onto the carpet.

We had to tear up the carpet in the spare bedroom because of our dog we had a few years back and from a dog the other owners had. That room was really bad. We would shampoo it and it would be okay for a while then whew!

There has been plenty more she wanted done. Then we had to get a new sump pump since our old one burnt out. We are going further into debt. Sure hope the house sells soon.

Sure hope we can keep our sanity too. The Realtor wants us to make the house look like a model home which it is not. First thing, we still live here and second it is at least 40 years or better old. It is as best as it can get. Sorry enough griping.

Hope everyone is having a good day. Off to clean some more since they are taking pictures this afternoon.

{{HUGS}} Susan! Most realtors, in the old days, told you to NOT DO ANYTHING, and that buyers wanted to make things their own. I guess times have changed, if you want to sell. :confused3 Best wishes on selling!! :thumbsup2

Hey all! Had a nice little Disney fix today at the Doorway to Dreams event. No great prizes, but spent a little character interaction time and had a nice lunch at Rainforest Cafe. Now if any of you happen to have 20K you'd like to give me...:lmao: I could be a new DVC member.
Hope you all had a great weekend and didn't melt today. Have a great week!

Hi. Hope everyone is enjoying the weather and staying well. This is just a quick drop in since we are very busy, as usual.

I spoke to one of the owners of the house we are interested in southern IL. (older gentleman passed away- his DD and DDIL are selling the house) his DD and I came up with an agreement so we can get out of here sooner. We are going with the rent to buy option since our funds are getting really low.

DH will start work right away when we get there (with my cousin's DH who owns his own landscaping business- in case I never mentioned it) we need to be bringing in some money. Then of course once the house sells we will return here for the closing then go back south.

This weekend we will take a look at the house to make sure it is everything we wanted. The fact that it is across the street from my cousin is a big selling point. It has many unique features which I do not have time to go into. The older gentleman and his wife built the house 35 years ago so it has only had one owner. He was a carpenter.

4 bedrooms, 2 full baths, 2 car attached garage. Will have to see for myself what else is involved. All sounds great and at a great price. So many details to see to before we move. Of course we have to stick around until DD finishes school here. Looks like we may be moving around the middle of June. We will see. Will have some friends back here and the Realtor keep an eye on the house if it does not sell before we leave.

Sounds great Susan! {{HUGS}}, Prayers and Best Wishes for your new move! :thumbsup2 AND, a sale on your existing home! :thumbsup2

Hi guys! I think it's ages since I've posted but I have been reading along. I've been picking up extra shifts at work which is nice in the paycheck but it makes things a bit crazy. Lots of end of school year stuff going on, going to be glad when they're out next week!

Stitchfans - best of luck to you on the move and sale of the house! Sounds like a good option with the new house! Hope all goes well, here's some PD for you! :wizard:pixiedust:

Tiggerrn - we had fun at the DVC event on Friday night too! The kids loved dancing with the characters and I loved seeing all the new stuff about the cruise. Someday..........

slo - hoping your life will slow down a bit for you, I know it can get crazy but hopefully the Sept trip will be just the thing to get you some down time and relaxation! We miss you around here!

KimRaye - hope your mom is feeling a bit better.

Bunchkin - hope all is well out in sunny LasVegas. Hope your FIL is feeling a bit better. A meet sounds like a great idea!

:wave2: to everyone else! Hope you're all staying cool in our summer heat wave. Looks like a nice weather weekend for the holiday. Have a great one everyone! :flower3:

Susan ~ Sounds like things are going in the right direction, I hope you are able to sell quick.

Kim ~ Keeping your mom in my thoughts.

Kim ~ Keeping your mom in my thoughts.
Thanks Kirsten. She's back in the hospital - AGAIN! I know, no one believes me, because I don't believe all these hospital stays myself, 6 or 7 now(?), and NO ANSWERS or DIAGNOSIS! :confused3 :rolleyes1 :headache: :sad2: :guilty: UGH!! They are testing for a pancreatic tumor now???? :confused3 WTHeck! :headache:

I'm really starting to worry about leaving her. 11 days is a long time to be gone, given all she's been through the past 4 months. I don't know what to do right now. :sad2:

Kim, your mom's experiences is so much like what my mom went through. It is so scary. My mom was in and out of the hospital constantly with numerous tests, many surgeries, all the while she is in severe pain. :sad2::confused3 Meanwhile all these doctors and specialist are scratching their heads having the same tests done over and over.

It ended up where they discovered at the very end when it was too late that the small intestine was wrapping itself around the large one and cutting it off, strangling it. She was too weak to undergo the surgery to correct it since she was given an overdose of pain killers and had just woke up from being in a coma. This is one of the many reasons why I dislike and do not trust doctors. Won't go into that.

I pray they do better by your mom!

Thank you everyone for all the well wishes. Tomorrow morning we are leaving to check out the house in southern Illinois. My girlfriend will be here caring for our cats. Man, I sure owe her big time. Well need to run up to Home Depot to get some more boxes and a couple of totes.

One of the movers we got a quote from said they would transport my pine tree that I planted in memory of my mom when she passed away. He said just set it in a tote and they will lean it up against the wall of the truck. It was eating me up thinking about leaving the "Na Na" tree behind. It was like leaving my mom behind. I know some may say it is only a tree but I cared for it and nursed it through many winters to get the little sapling into the strong 8 footer+ that it is now.

Have a great day everyone Off to do some more packing.

Good morning all and welcome to the holiday weekend. The weather looks to be amazing!!! :)

Thanks for the congratulations on the kids wedding. We really feel like she's been a member of the family forever, but it's nice to finally have it official! She is doing well since the accident where we almost lost her, she still has some things to get thru, but we are so grateful for how far she has come.

Kim...I am so sorry to hear about your mom being back in the hospital...<sigh> I know it's got to be really hard on her and also on all of you. Please know you continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

Slo...good to see you here...have fun planning your trip!

Tigger...yeah, they do make those DVC things tempting, don't they?? Maybe in my next life!:rotfl2:

Bunchkin...keep us posted on your move "home"...yes, we will have to plan a big meet!

ID..end of year stuff does keep you busy, doesn't it???

Stitchfans...I totally, totally understand about your special tree...how nice that you have a found a mover that will help with that.

Everyone...have a great day and a wonderful, relaxing holiday weekend!:cool1:

Thank you Susan and Donna! She's still in, and missed Her Family picnic today, but Dad left early and went to see her with camera pics. :thumbsup2 All the family was talking Mayo clinic. :confused3 No one here is helping.

Susan, I hope the 'na na tree' makes it safely to your destination! :goodvibes

Enjoy the weekend everyone! :)

Hi everyone! Just catching up now. Was in Oxford and London all last week. Got home Friday, but need to turn right around and head back next week. So, I'll be around lurking when I can.

good Monday morning chicagoland homies.

remember those that serve(d) our country today.

kim, i totally understand your situation.
hang in there, she will improve soon.

i left town on an emergency may 5th.
i had just come home from work and received a call that my dad was being taken to the hospital.

i left soon after that call.
of course, i got caught in chgo rush hour traffic then.
didn't get to southern illinois until 12:30 in the morning.

i came home for a few days and will be returning back to be with the parental units.

the day after dad went into the hospital, my mom went by ambulance to the same hospital.

i have lived in hospital lobby chairs for 15 nights as both were in CCU.
they were transferred to a skilled nursing facility last week.
i moved in with them in that room.

i do not have any access to a computer when i am there, but i will check in here when i am back in town.

i haven't read back pages in this thread but hope all are doing fine here.

OH mac, I am so very sorry to read this! :sad1: {{HUGS}} and prayers, if that's ok.

Hi everyone. Hope to find you all in the best of health and enjoying this weather. Yesterday sure was something. On our way home from southern Illinois we ran into two accidents, an enormous downpour that seemed to last forever which made us crawl and then construction which was one lane for 13-14 miles. Ugh!!! Felt like we would never get home.

The three of us fell in love with the house across from Trudy in spite of the fact it needs tons and tons of TLC plus plenty of elbow grease. It also needs a new roof and siding. The owner claimed she would take off for the roof so the siding will be our responsibility. The deck needs to be replaced too because it is really unsafe. I doubt she would take off for that but there is no harm in asking. I figure you really can not ask for an allowance for cosmetic things.

It sure needs cleaning though, plus the older gentlemen (new owner's father) left all sorts of holes in the wall and really filthy carpet which we will have to steam clean. There is actually carpet in the bathrooms too which has to eventually be removed. Do not care for that. Of course every room needs to be painted and some wall paper needs to be removed.

DD of course already picked out her room. She already is planning where each poster will go. The living room has fake beams up in the ceiling which really impressed me, I love it. One of the bathrooms has an "old time" mural on the tiles in the shower which resembles a scene IMO from like Italy or someplace like that. The woman said she'd replace it. I like it.

Met the neighbors on both sides. Really really nice. Especially the elderly couple to the left of us. I really like them. We have to share a driveway with them and lucky for us they are really super. So much more to tell but do not want to make this into a novel.

We met up with more of my Trudy's DH's family. Really nice people. Went to two Bar B Q's while we were there. One was way in the back of the woods where one relative built a cabin on their acres, acres of land, with a lovely pond filled with fish. Love it!! DD met up with her first tick. She did not love it. We met up to watch a 21 gun salute on Memorial day in the local cemetery. Never saw anything like that before. Very emotional. Especially when the bugal played taps. We were given a gun shell for a souvenir. Sunday the church service had me crying too.

Someone sang Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA". We all really love the Methodist church and it's people. Can not wait to get out there to join their congregation. Just before we left the American legend hall had a free catfish fry lunch for the town. Quite good. Again, such friendly and wonderful people! Trudy says the American legend hall does that each year plus a lunch for Christmas. The hall is right behind their house and is a popular place for her DH and no doubt will be for my DH to unwind, shoot pool, socialize so on. Trudy teaches line dancing there on Wednesday nights so I will be joining that for fun, exercise and socialization. It's free. Can not beat that. All you have to pay for is your soda or beer if you drink it. I guess one can of soda is $1.

Between the church and the ALH we will be kept busy. Sounds so great. Plus one thing that I really like was the "new noises". Crickets, bullfrogs and all. The evening sky so beautiful, purple. I just can not wait to get down there!!!! Oh sorry this has become a novel I will go for now. :laughing:Have a great day everyone!!

OH mac, I am so very sorry to read this! :sad1: {{HUGS}} and prayers, if that's ok.

MAC - :hug:prayers and huggs for you..

Susan - sounds like you had a great time and moving down there will be perfect for you.. hope your dreams happen fast for you..

Been busy here... picked up Geoff late last week.. he looks great and still loves the school.. he'll leave on Friday so get to his new scout camp.. staff week to get the camp ready and then the scouts start camping and having fun..His life is in Iowa.. gf is in Cedar Rapids ..so he is hanging with old friends and waiting to go back home..

I have been Meals on Wheels, SHIP and working at the Disney store so I have been busy with 3 part time jobs.. no money but fun.. i do love working at TDS.. i love giving each guest some magic and pixie dust:lovestruc.. besides it is so much fun to talk Disney and hear about the trips that are coming up and give them a few pointers..:thumbsup2
..
Today I worked in the kitchen and then drove a MOW route.. I have done this route many times before so it was fine.. this one couple introduced themselves to me again, we chatted a bit and i played with the dog ( one of our jobs is talking to the folks that get the Meals, since many of them will not see anyone but us all week) .. as I got back into van, i thought about the nice part of dementia is that each day, each story is new and the people are new and exciting each and every day..better to think of the happy thoughts than the other ones..

Susan - sounds great! :thumbsup2

geffric - you ARE a busy lady!

Looks like Mayo for Mom. Talked with Dad and he's ready to take her, after she's released again - with NO DIAGNOSIS - and heading to Mayo. While I'm happy she might get a diagnosis and treatment there, I just can't imagine going to WDW next week with her at Mayo. :sad2: Not so happy of times. :guilty: She's injecting herself now with some drug that hasn't helped since Fri or Sat. :rolleyes1 Dad is planning to drive her there, get a hotel room, and wait for the next episode, when she'll need admitting again - which we ALL know will happen. :sad1: Sorry to be the downer here. :guilty:

Kim - I hope Mayo finds the problem and can help her.. it is strange that after all this time that the drs here have no clue..can you move your trip to another week so you can go with peace of mind???
