Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Hi guys! Can't believe the weekend is almost over. We got almost everything done that we wanted to. Will be delivering our blankets for the GAD program tomorrow. DD12 got her science fair board finished and DD8 is nearly done with her diorama. Also got the Christmas decorations out of the yard, I know it's about time but there was so much snow and the ground was frozen.

mac - thanks for the listings!

MJ - small world! She had a great time, if she volunteers 3 of the 6 weeks then she gets to ride the 7th week so she's motivated. ;)

momto1 - I've done pretty well with the challenge, it's been hard to pass up the good deals but this month has been tight with the budget so it has helped by staying out of the stores.

Hi to everyone else! Hope you all had a great weekend!

Well, I was doing well with my NY resolution to get to bed earlier (I set the time at 11p) until last week. I'm going to get back on track this week though. Good night all!

irish dancer, did you take the tree down also...............

we have families in the neighborhood that still have their lights up.
and on each night....

Morning all!! Hope you all had a good weekend.
Our neighbors have moved on from Christmas lights to ?Valentine's Lights?. We have two houses across the street from one another that I swear are in competition with one another. They light and decorate for every holiday. We still have the lights on the bushes outside-I do not light them! DH could've taken them off this weekend while I was at work-but he did not. Guess they'll keep for another 40 degree day now. :lmao:
Mac, thanks for the listings. I hope I get a couple of these channels. Some shows I haven't seen before.
Here's the solution to everyone for their pantry challenge-Stay out of the stores! :rotfl2:I hate to shop. My pantry problem is usually that it's empty!
princesschell, enjoy those last months at school. You will never have an easier life or a better time than you are having while you are young. Treasure it and don't give it up early!
Hi Bunchkin, ID, Slo, momto1, Stitch(hope things are going well for you), piglet, and everyone lurking! Have a great day. I need to finish DD wallpaper stripping today, so that is where I'll be the rest of the day.:headache:

Good Morning everyone! :flower3: i know i've been saying this alot but... sorry for my absence around here. i do feel bad i haven't been posting much. we are officially in full wedding mode now a days trying to get things done. apparently it hasn't hit me that we are only 84 days away from the wedding and 80 days until we leave until last week. i still have a lot to do but feel i got a decent amount done this weekend. :goodvibes

Stitch ~ glad to hear DH is doing better and you were able to get that ice taken care of.

Bunchy ~ glad to hear SIL went back to where she belongs. I'm sorry to hear about your friend. Unfortunately, I really know how you feel. Also, good luck with the closets. I have to admit, I am quite the pack rat and am NOT looking forward to have to pack up all my stuff when I move out.

Tigg ~ good luck with that wallpaper! :wizard:

ID ~ I hear with time flying by. I feel like xmas was just last week! Congrats to DD12 on her volleyball season. Also, good luck to DD8 with her dance. Was she the one in the Nutcracker or was that someone else around here? if so, how'd that go??? glad you were able to get all the xmas stuff down :thumbsup2

Slo, Mac, Chell, momto1, piglet, kim, and everyone else ~ :wave2: hope everyone is doing well and has a great day!

Morning all! Just a quick drive-by, on my way out to deliver the blankets soon.

mac- our tree and inside decorations have been down and packed away since around the 8th. The outside stuff has been off since then too but it was staked into the ground so I didn't even attempt to dig through the snow to get it out. We did drive past a house this weekend that still had their tree inside up and lit along with their outside lights.

disneygal - howdy stranger! Glad to see you around again. Can't believe your wedding is coming up so soon, time has flown by!
*No, it wasn't my DD in the Nutcracker. I think that might have been Tiggerrn's DD.

KimRaye - congrats on the new ticker!! Tell us all about it!

Tiggerrn - we have a house in the neighborhood that decorates all out for every holiday too. Haven't been by yet to see their St. V decorations yet.

So not looking forward to the weather they're forecasting for this week, maybe they'll be wrong. ;) Well, I've got to run. Hope everyone has a great day! :flower3:

Hi all!

I've been away for so long, but I've been trying to read this last week and stay caught up. And I wanted to fill you in on what happened to me. (Crissup already knows this, and I saw that he mentioned it. :) )

On Dec. 27, I was driving down to Indy to see my friends, and was about to exit to go buy windshield wiper fluid because it seemed like I was out. I got into the exit lane, and I must have ended up in a snowy section. I tried to edge back over, and I started to fish-tail. I couldn't correct it, and then I started to spin out. I was spinning and moving across the lanes of traffic on I-65 (this was a little north of Lafayette), and then I saw headlights and heard a horn, but there was nothing I could do about it. A truck hit me. :scared1: It wasn't a semi, but rather a smaller truck. Honestly, I'm not clear about all the details of what happened at the scene if it didn't directly involve me, because I was too shaken up, and it was dark. (I think if it had been light out I would have a better feel for everything that happened.) I ended up in the ditch on the side of the road, with my car perpindicular to the road.

Someone (I assume it was the guy who hit me) came and helped me get out of the car (I couldn't get the door open.), and called 911. He brought me around to the back of the car and was trying to get my coat buttoned up, because it was freezing. (Luckily I was wearing my Uggs.) Then I started feeling really faint. I don't think I've ever felt like that before. But then cops came and started talking to me, asking for my license, so I headed around to the passenger side to find my purse. The faintness passed, and I just kept saying, "I feel so much better now! I feel soo much better now!" :rotfl:

We found my purse, but I couldn't find my phone because it had been in an unzipped purse pocket and was somewhere on the floor. I started looking for it, but there was too much broken glass. So they took me up to a truck or SUV and paramedics started examining me, and later they found my phone. Those were the only things I took from my car. Everything else I just left. At first I told them I didn't need an ambulance, but later I changed my mind, and so they got one and put me on a back-board and gave me oxygen, the whole deal. They took me to St. Elizabeth's in Lafayette (shout out to St. E's! :goodvibes ) and did some x-rays and a CT scan. I had no broken bones or major problems. The only bleeding I had was my nose and a big chunk out of my knee. I was able to walk away from this!

And this is what I looked like after a couple of days:

The black eye finally cleared up a few days ago, after about 4 weeks. The thing on my neck (from the seat belt) is just a scar now. I had a limp, but now I'm doing a lot better. My hip still hurts a little, but I recently got a Naproxen prescription and I think that's helped a lot. The main things left now are my knees, my elbow, and my nose. You don't really notice anything to look at them, but they're still bruised, esp. my knees. It hurts even to scratch them.

But I'm so lucky that I came out of that so well! :yay: It could have been so much worse. Thank you to God and my seat belt and airbag!

I bought a Hyundai Elantra a week ago. But I'm reluctant to drive down to Indy again in the Winter. :(

Glad to see you all again! I'll try to be around more now. :goodvibes

oh my goodness! Leigh, so glad you are alright! I hope your knees and everything else start feeling better soon. Thank goodness for seat belts.

Hi all!!! :wave2:

Sorry it's been so long since I've posted - I've been having issues at work, that I don't want to get into here. All I can say, is I haven't been happy :guilty: I've learned when Kevin lost his job in March, that when life gives you lemons, you need to make lemonade, and that is what I am doing now - trying to find a good way to make my lemonade :thumbsup2

Leigh - So many hugs to you
You definitly had a guardian angel in the car with you :littleangel:
I am so very very very glad that you are okay

DG - Only 84 days, wow!!!!:dance3:
You have to share all your wedding plans with us :goodvibes

Bunchkin - I'm sorry you had a sad week last week
I hope this week is better for you!!!:hug:

To everyone else - :wave2: Sorry I didn't comment on everyone, but my hand is bandaged up from a cut I gave myself at work today, and it's a challenge to type (not a bad cut - it's just in a bad spot)

Have a great rest of the day everyone!!!

Greetings to all! It seems like there are a "bad things happening to good people" going on lately...sending out hugs to all!!!

Leigh...my goodness! I am so sorry to read of your accident, and so very thankful you are doing okay. Do you do a lot of driving on 65? It's not one of my favorite roads at any time, but especially not in the winter months. Hope you continue to feel better!

Slo..hope your "lemonade" is ready soon! And that your hand feels better!

Bunchkin. I am sorry to read of the loss of your friend.

Stitchfans..how are things going?

Irish Dancer...what is the GAD program?

Mark and I went to see "Mama Mia!" yesterday. I LOVE the music from Abba and people were dancing in the aisles and having a great time!! I'm so glad we got to go!!!

Shout out to ALL! Stay warm and dry!!!

Hi gang! I hear it is snowing where I live so I think I better go home from work soon. Have I said before how much I don't like snow?

Leigh - Oh, my goodness! I am so glad you are OK and came out of this horrible accident in such good condition. Take care of yourself!

Slo - Thinking of you and work and hoping for the best for you.

DG - I remember when you announced your engagement and the wedding seemed so far away! It will be here before you know it!

ID - I am glad you are doing good on the pantry challenge. I did real good over the weekend and found lots of other food items in hiding.

Tigger - I agree to stay out of the stores! I only like grocery stores. I really detest the mall and big box stores. My outside decorations are still up, too, but not lit either!

Hi to everyone esle!
Lori

Ski8Leigh - I am so glad that you are ok.. I-65 in the winter is very very treacherous..your car looks so managled.. i am glad you were not hurt worst than you were.. take care of yourself

SLO -

KimRaye - what is the big news?? Spill the beans.LOL

Well today I was supposed to take Eric to Uof IChicago for an open house thingy but at the last minute he decided that it was not worth his time.. i keep telling him that he only has the hopes of a public college in the state.. anything private or out of state needs a lot of money for him to go.. oh to be 16.. the world is still your oyster.. of course it doesn't help that Alexis G and co lost over 1/2 his college fund.. love his ads.. telling people about the $77 million he got back.. doesn't mention that he lost over $150 million.. and that kids like eric don't have time to make money back...s..

Ski8Leigh - I'm glad to hear you are on the mend! Wow...scary!

Geffric - you sound like my husband re: gianoulias. every time his ads come on I immediately prep myself for DHs commentary on the left out info!

Hi everyone!!! Hope you're all doing well. Try to enjoy the snow:lmao:

Leigh I am glad you weren't more seriously hurt. Your poor car. I am not a fan of driving around in the snow. I am glad you are doing better.

Geffric Alex is of the opinion that all he has to do is say here I am college and the doors will magically open for him. Grateful that he choose them to teach him what he already knows about the world. Were we this way to our parents.:rolleyes1

The Pack Rat house is almost entirely gutted!!! :cool1: We hired cleaning people that came today and gave the ENTIRE house a MEGA cleaning. DH's mom must have given up cleaning years and years ago.
Way before she even got sick. She was never a cleaner to begin with. Then add in all the crapola in the house and it made for one huge disaster.
We also had DH's sister take their dad's dogs last week and they now live with her. And with all the drywall work and painting DH has been doing there, the place looks soooo good now.

Leigh OH MY GOSH!!!!! I am so glad you are ok!! And that you weren't seriously injured! Your poor car!! :guilty: That must have been so scary for you! 65 is the pits to drive on during the winter. I did it last year and it was awful. I hope that the rest of you heels soon.:hug::hug::hug::hug:

slo Hugs for you!! I know how hard it is to have your own business.

 to all!!!

Gotta run. I bought FIL a bunch of new clothes today and I need to wash them for him. :laundy: It's like having another kid!!!

I've been a busy bee today - I already did a large grocery shopping at Jewel before I came to work :) The thought of going tonight was so :scared:, that I decided to go this morning. It was essential that I went today, because I'm having a Tupperware Party on Thursday night, and I needed to get things for that :) This is my first home party ever, and I'm hoping it will be a success :wizard: Bunchkin, I'm missing you while planning this, because I always had such a good time at your home parties:goodvibes.

Thanks for the good thoughts and hugs everyone - I appreciate it!!!:)
Owning your own business is the hardest thing I've ever done, especially in this economy. The highs and lows are exhausting at times. I have no regrets though - the lessons the girls are learning from all this are so valueable, and the lessons I'm learning are very valueable too ::yes::

Donna - Thanks about my hands :) I've been taking medication since the first of the year, which has helped me have no more flare-ups. Plus...I'm trying very very hard to not get to over stressed, which isn't easy. I have an appointment with the Rheumatologist the end of February, and that will begin the testing to see if I have something much worse that's tied in with all this - the saga on this continues

geffric - I'm so sorry to hear of Eric's college fund:eek::guilty: That's terrible, so terrible

Bunchkin - That's great about your FIL's house :) Doing all that work is exhausting - I hope you can rest up after all that work :)

nat, HERSEY, Mac, momto1 and piglet - :wave2:

Well, it's time for me to get some work done around here.
Have a good rest of the day everyone!!

Slo ~ Do you know if your consultant can do web orders?

Geffric ~ The horror of the college fund fiasco makes me glad we did not do it for Kevin like we had planned.
