Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Brought DH home late yesterday afternoon. So far so good. He had a great evening and this morning got up with no problems. As a matter of fact he told his first joke since all this began. As I was walking out the door to get our van to take him to his outpatient program he sat at the kitchen table and says to me, "Okay, see ya later hon. Have a great day, bye."

:laughing:As if I am going out without him. Stinker. He actually laughed out loud and smiled at a joke I said which was awesome since we have not heard him laugh or seen him smile in months too. I feel like someone has just given me a pot of gold. He is slowly but surely coming back to us. :woohoo: With time I have faith all will be back to normal and we can all let out a big sigh of relief.

That is great, Susan, great to hear. :thumbsup2 Continued good wishes and prayers.

And congratulations to both you and Dewain, Kirsten.

And hello to everybody.

Hi guys! :wave2:

This is something I shared with friends on FB and I wanted to share it with you guys too.
Like many people, I've lost contact with people I was friends with in high school. In the past years I've thought about them and wondered what became of their lives. I had a friend who was a year ahead of me who went off to college and we lost contact with each other after a couple years. Lives change, people change. And occasionally I would wonder what happened to her. I've told funny stories to my family about things we did together way back then. And slowly, on FB, I've been trying to reconnect with some people. She popped back into my mind last night and I searched for her, which I never did before on the internet and I'm not sure why I never did until last night. I found out she passed away almost 5 years ago. It was actually on the news across the national and world wide, but I never saw it. She was a professor at a college, married, experienced in the martial arts, and became an amateur boxer. She died in a sanctioned boxing match. She had told her coach it would be her last fight. I've missed her, I miss her even more. And I'm so sad to have not known this happened to her.

And on top of that, the passing of my step dad has been on my mind as it has been 4 years that he has been gone, as of the 15th.

The past week has been a really sad one for me.

If there is someone you haven't called in a while...call them. If you haven't recently told someone in your life that you love them ...tell them.
Don't put it off.

Bunchkin, sorry you are having a sad week. We love you and miss you!!! Kyle just mentioned Hunter the other day. He got some new Star Wars Lego sets for Christmas and was missing being able to share them with Hunter.
Stitch, glad to hear your DH is finally home. Many hugs to you and prayers that all will go well from this point.
Geffric, congrats on keeping your job at TDS! Which one are you at? Maybe I'll pop in on you one day (or piglet).
Piglet, congrats on your anniversary!
Hello to Hersey, Dan, Mac (welcome back-we've been missing you, too!), Slo (I promise the next time I'm in your area, I won't just drive by), Kim, and PrincessChelle. Hope everyone is having a good week so far! It was a beautiful and sunny day here today. Wishing for many more.
Off to take the 7 Layer Casserole out of the oven! Have to keep the peeps here fed! Later.

hi ho..

glad things are looking up Susan.. it gives me a warm feeling to hear things are better for you..

Bunchy - hugs to you too..

Susan ~ So glad to hear that update.

Tiggerrn2 ~ I am at the Chicago Ridge store if you are ever out that way.

Some people think it is weird that Dewain and I celebrate the day we met. To us though, it is bigger than our wedding anniversary.

Hi gang! Just a quick check in today.

Stitch - I am so glad to hear your good news. I hope each day is better for you and dh!

Slo - I was in your neck of the woods over the weekend - sorta. We did our winter cabin camping at Potatoe Creek State Park. On Monday we did the College Football Hall of Fame Museum in South Bend. It was enjoyable especially for ds who said it was "the beast".

Piglet - So, did I read correctly - if you work at the Disney store you get free passes as a perk? If so, nice! Congrats on your meeting anniversary.

Geffric - Good news on getting to stay. Your cruise with your guys will be fabulous.

Bunchkin - Hoping you have a happier week this week!

Hi to everyone else!
Lori

momto1 ~ Yep, free passes are a perk. I get 5 one-day passes (since it is me, DH, and 3 kids) twice a year. The ones I just got are good until December of 2011.

Hi all. How did you all fair with the ice? We have a thin layer on our driveway. I stepped out slid and grabbed a hold of the side of the house. I inched my way back in and announced that we were hiding today. DD had some stomach problems and DH was peacefully sleeping so I figured tomorrow is another day. The hospital was not pleased that he was not coming in but I did not want to take any chances of us sliding off of the driveway into our neighbor's yard or into the ditch by the front of our driveway.

My motto is better safe than sorry. So both of them were called in for today and tomorrow will be another day. Hope everyone is safe and warm.

Hi! :wave2:

Thanks for your support peeps! :)
Things start looking better and then my SIL comes into town and starts giving DH a hard time. She is such an instigator!! :headache::mad:
She's got my heart racing and that's not a good thing.

piglet Passes sound like a nice perk. Hope you can use them. :goodvibes

Stitch Do you have any salt or sand to put down on the driveway? Maybe a neighbor can bring some over to you.

Hi to all!

I promised DS I would bring him Burger King for lunch today. He doesn't like the school's food and only like to eat two different types of sandwiches from home, so Burger King is a real treat for him.
Have a great day all!

you are doing exactly what i would do if in your situation.

continual prayers for you and the family.

Hi! :wave2:

Stitch Do you have any salt or sand to put down on the driveway? Maybe a neighbor can bring some over to you.

No, around here everyone keeps to themselves. You are lucky if you get a nod or recognition from these people. It is every man for himself sad to say.

But yes we do have some salt and I was able to put some down to get it all cleared up for today. Took DD and DH to their perspective places (Her school, him outpatient program) and now have some time to myself.

I have to write some letters to to the insurance to debate some claims they denied. So after looking around here at a few more threads I will do that.

Could not get it to double quote sorry.
Thanks. Makes me feel better to hear someone say that.

Still can not believe the drs were denied. Why on earth would the insurance not pay the drs. Plus it is denying all lab work??? :confused3 So far has not paid any of the ambulance either. Have to check into that also. Would hate to have to pay the entire bill for that since it was so expensive.

Raining here in the valley like crazy from those storms off the Pacific. It stopped for now, but the skies aren't clear. The mountains are just full of snow.

Well, SIL is back in Cali. where she belongs.
She actually had to apologize to DH for her actions of the other day. And I guess FIL told her to mind her own business, which is a first.

People around here keep to themselves too. Not used to that. Are old neighbors back 'home' were always talking to one another. Not necessarily to every one but to most people. Such a shame.

Glad to hear that everyone is on schedule today and the driveway is cleared.

Can you call the insurance company instead of writing? That's what I've done in the past and seem to get more headway.

I have to search for some cleaning people to come in and do a major clean up at FIL's house. DH has been working there every day like a mad man fixing up the place. And yesterday I tossed so much garbage that I found in closets! Pack rats!!!!!

Have a great weekend all! :wave2:

And yesterday I tossed so much garbage that I found in closets! Pack rats!!!!!

I SO totally hear you on this one. We put so much garbage out at my mom's last weekend that I was afraid the garbage man wouldn't pick it all up (or send a huge bill, at the very least). Needless to say, he picked it all up-the bill issue still remains to be seen.
Hope everyone is having a good day and will have a great weekend. The ice is melting off around here today. The driveway is no longer an ice rink.:woohoo:
Well, back into DD room to continue ripping off the wallpaper.

Hi guys! Oh how time is flying by, I can't believe we've arrived at another weekend and that January is nearing the end! Here I thought it would be a slower time, silly me.

DD12 finished up her volleyball season on Wed with the tournament. They made it all the way to the championship game but lost in a very close series. They played a better team but made them really work for their win.

DD8 is getting ready for competition season in dance. Costumes arrived and were tried on last night, very, very cute! Their first comp is not until March.

DS9 has been having a rough go at school but this week has been GREAT!

NOt much planned for the weekend. DD12 is volunteering at the Hanson Ctr (a therapy riding stable in Hinsdale) tomorrow. Have to finish up Science Fair projects too.

Tiggerrn - ugh, taking off wallpaper is not one of my favorite projects. Hope all goes well!

Bunchkin - the rain is headed our way this weekend. Glad SIL is back in Calif where she belongs. ;)
*I don't look forward to the day we have to empty my mom's house. She is a MAJORLY HUGE pack rat. We've tried to clear things out but it makes her very upset.
**Sorry about the loss of your friend.

Stitchfans - you did right to stay in yesterday, it was so icy yesterday!
*So sorry about the insurance stuff, I hope you can get it all straightened out easily.

piglet - wow, nice perk for working at TDS! Now I wish I tried to get a holiday position there with the hopes of being kept on.
*Congrats on your meeting anniversary, hope you have a fun celebration.

momto1 - my sister went camping at Potato Creek State Park many, many years ago!
*How's the pantry challenge going?

Hi to everyone else!

Well, time to run. Leaving for dinner at MILs house in a minute and still need to finish up the Big Top Cupcake we're bringing for dessert. Have a great night all! :flower3:

Hi gang! The weekend is finally here! DS has goes to the high school tonight to play with the high school pep band at a bball game. He did it last year and really enjoyed it. Then tomorrow is a basketball game. Sunday is baseball practice and hot dog fundraising. Oh...and did I mention going to church, too. Why am I looking forward to the weekend?

ID - Congrats to your dd volleyball team! The pantry challenge - uh...so..so..I am addicted to buying great deals. I have to stop!

Bunchkin, ID, and Tiggern - Tell me about pack rats. DMIL and DFIL have not one but two house filled with stuff! The built a new, bigger house 4 years ago and haven't finished moving out of the old one yet. Needless to say, we don't buy them things for birhdays or Christmas since we will be the ones to clean the things out!

Stitch - I hope for a peaceful, uneventful weekend for you!

Leaving work now. See you next week!
Lori

Heeyyy everyone! This week seemed fly by, maybe because it was the lack of school. I didn't have school Monday but my NHS pod, or well some of us, went to an inner-city elementary school to help out there. We reorganized a teacher supply room. Lots of work, but it was a good time. I missed some time Thursday to go to traffic court to deal with an accident ticket that got thrown out :) Worked some loonnnngg shifts at work. 15 weeks of senior year left!

Stitchfans If you guys need anything, have your daughter text me or call me. I can run over, or send my brother over to give you guys a hand (he's 15). Oh and I sent out the gift for your daughter too. I hope she gets it soon.
Bunchkin I wish the mountains were full of snow here. Wait, I think that would require mountains first...
irish dancer Looks like you will be right by me today! I go to school at Central, right down the road from the Hansen Center. But I'm about ten minutes from Hinsdale. I hope your daughter has a good time with the horses!

Hi to everyone else. Gotta run to go get some homework done so I can go out tonight!
