Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Hello all and thanks for all the welcomes.
Will the rain ever end? I'm so tired of baseball game rainouts for my 2 sons.
DW and my 2 daughters are at a Girl Scout day camp Monday-Wednesday this week in Romeoville. They got DRENCHED yesterday. I came home from work to find them all in jammies with their clothes in the dryer. They are saying that between the heat and humidity Friday will feel like 95+ degrees. UGH!

Thanks for all the great advice everyone! We are getting really excited to go and we still have almost a month to go! We ended up booking at the Courtyard by Marriott (hopefully a nice hotel) which is two blocks off of Michigan. We will pick up CityPasses when we get there, and are planning a stop at the American Girl Store for tea. There is a trolley that goes from the hotel to Navy pier that we might check out and we may make a trip to the zoo if it is not too far.

Thanks Again! If anyone else has more advice, we would love to hear it!

Hello everyone! I thought maybe this would be an appropriate place to ask this question... :confused3

We are from Ohio, and DD5 wants to visit an American Girl store, so of course you can't take one kid and not the others. So now we are planning a summer trip to Chicago!

Tell me, what can you do there with kids who are 2, 3 and 5? Are they too young to do anything there? And if we fly, and take a cab to our hotel, where would be a place to stay where we could walk to some attractions?

My knowledge of Chicago is limited to watching ER... :rotfl: Any suggestions??

Hey -

I wanted to join if that's ok. I'm a lifelong Chicagoan and Disney lover. I live on the NW Side and work downtown.

If you are going to American Girl, I'd recommend a hotel on the Mag Mile/Michigan Avenue or Millenium Park. These are all walkable, busable or cheap cab-able. For your younger ones - The Shedd Aquarium is gorgeous, Navy Pier is fun and the Chicago Children's Museum is there.

:welcome: MommyR! I live in Niles and work downtown! This is a great forum! Where do you live on the NW Side?

:woohoo: Happy travels! I hope you and your family will have a great time here. I will PM you something that I use for people who are visiting at my work. Also make sure you check out this link
http://www.explorechicago.org/city/en/supporting_narrative/events___special_events/special_events/mose/chicago_neighborhood.html

It will give you a list of the neighborhood festivals that are going on. You may even be here for the Taste of Chicago which is fun if it's not to hot out!
Hello all and thanks for all the welcomes.

:welcome: I'm actually looking foward to the heat! Love it! Can't wait til I can sit in the back yard during the summer. :)
es - Did you get your AG outfits? DD did but, she's considering selling it on Ebay! We were in the lower deck Sunday and it was chilly. We envied those of you in the sun but, if you left after 6 innings, I guess I don't envy you afterall. We stayed the whole game and saw an awesome finish! :cool1:

Have a great week everyone!!! No More Rain!!!

Kim ~ Yep we got the AG outfits for both girls. They were very excited but now I'm sure they are stuffed in a bag some where. ;)

Hope everyone is well! Cubs / Sox game is on and the Sox are winning, shocker! I'm looking foward to the weekend and getting my hair cut! Yippee! We may actually have NOTHING to do! However, we have one of those festival books and I think that Naperville Days is on this weekend and tonight is Despareux in the Park in Park Ridge. On the 20th there is some fun night in the Park in Des Plaines too.

I have an event at the brewery tomorrow night for Erie Neighborhood House which is a great organization in the neighborhood where I work. It will be alot of fun!:cool1:

Talk to yas soon!

We got the AG Cubs' uniform as well - I just got back from the AG store on my lunch. There was a coupon in there - if you spend $30 at AG they give you a second uniform. :cheer2:

Hmmm I thought I saw them grab and stuff a random slip of paper! Thanks for the tip. We only have one AG doll so I'm good but it would have been cool to get one for a b-day present for someone. . . Hmmm may have to open the bag! Thanks for the tip!

You're Welcome! Also - In a quote post mistake, I did respond...

MommyR ~ That's a lovely area! I used to live downtown and loved being able to walk around the city at night. It's fun to be able to get there on a rare occasion during the day now but the closest I usually get is the Daley Center:-)

Thank you Eilis! Great information!:thumbsup2

FLAngie ~ Glad I could hlep! Have a great time!

Hi to all the newbies on this thread!! :wave2:
I forgot to say that yesterday! :upsidedow

Took my mother-in-law to the cancer center this morning. Not much to report on there, as not much has changed. She's not taking chemo though, they found out she is allergic. I didn't know that was even a possibility.

Tomorrow I will go and register the kids at their new schools.

Anyone have plans for the dads this weekend?
We are going to see the movie UP and then out for dinner.

slo That's nice that your in-laws are bringing the food for father's day.
Have you been able to swim yet?
It is nice to see the Strip area....from a distance!!!! I prefer it that way!! :)

Tiggerrn I totally forgot to change my email address with Mousesavers!! And I've had my new email for a year and a half!!!
We actually already have ressies at the Hyatt for 4 nights. I booked it well over a month ago. Got it through Hotwire, should have used Priceline and saved a couple extra buckeroos. We've stayed at the HOJO and thought it was ok. We had issues with our first room and needed to be moved the next day. Saw the pool, but we were so busy we never got any pool time in.
The Hyatt isn't as close but they run a shuttle often enough.
Next time you plan on going to DL again you'll have to let me know! :thumbsup2

Kim Sorry to hear it's been raining out Kelly's games!
Besides visiting family, what other things do you guys plan to do while in Montana?
Where are you staying while at WDW?

I should run! Chicken is cooking on the grill and we have a lot of unpacking to try and get done. On Saturday the carpet/tile cleaning people are coming BACK out!!! Let's hope second time's the charm!! So I need to get the boxes off the floors.

:hippie:

 but, we're also leaving for WDW on 10/3!! :yay::yay: You can bet which trip is more exciting to me right now!!!

10/3?? really?? that is when I leave for WDW.. gonna meet MAC for dinner that night at Kona..wanna join us??? let's plan on a meet..

Morning all. Glad the rain has stopped at least for today anyway.

Welcome, Rachaface. We are a fun, disney-loving group here. Good luck on finding your Disney loving man. It's easier to love Disney with a Disney partner. My DH is Disney'd out! So it's up to me to go alone or find others to bring with me.

in the words of scar, be prepared - tomorrow and friday we're expecting more rain! although i'm excited about that, I love the dreary weather (gosh, don't I sound like :eeyore: or what LOL)

thanks for all the warm welcomes everyone! :D I can't wait to get to know all of you :)

I'm not sure if your kids like or even know Harry Potter, but the museum of science and industry has an expo on it around this time. I believe the shedd aquarium might have that spongebob 4D thing there too (although, personally I find 4D technology frightening LOL i left the place in tears within one minute of the show starting because i don't like when things shoot out from my seat). Also, they might find the bean a cute thing to look at in millennium park, but seeing as theyre so little and a lot of kids will be running around there, you might want to take extra precaution so no one gets hurt/ran into ;X - good luck and have fun in our town! :)

i'm so sorry to hear! :( maybe radiation will help? I don't know much about that kind of stuff, but you're in my thoughts.

Kim - What are you doing in Montana? Are you vacationing or visiting family or friends?
Staying with DHs sister & her DH, visiting Glacier National Park for 2 nights and basically doing nothing. That's Montana. :sad2:

My knowledge of Chicago is limited to watching ER... :rotfl: Any suggestions??
:welcome: Kristen!!

ER is basically NOT shot in Chicago, unfortunately. Just some lakefront scenes is all, sometimes. :rolleyes1

Have fun when you're here! Try a zoo, Lincoln Park would be closer to downtown for you. :thumbsup2

:welcome: mommy! I'm in Edison Park, near es who's in Niles. :thumbsup2 What are the Old Irving Park boundaries? All I can think of when you say Irving Park is the Brickyard Shopping Center. Is that even close or, are you further East? :confused3

Kim Where are you staying while at WDW?
We down-scaled this time to get free dining. We're staying at, and trying a value this time, All Star Movies. :confused3 Moderates were all booked already. I got in late, I took what I could get.

Sorry about your MIL. Hope there's some bright news for her soon! :thumbsup2

{{HUGS}} to you all!!

Would LOVE to but, our flight gets in about 10PM! Latest possible "IN" for free dining, LOL! :thumbsup2 What about your other days? With Oct hours not posted yet, it's hard to schedule anything yet. :confused3

Bunchkin ~ So sorry about your MIL. She is on my prayer list. I've never heard of anyone being allergic to chemo:confused3 but I know it causes severe reactions. Is there anything homeopathic she can try? Not sure how well those treatments work but it could have even a placibo effect which I have "heard" somehow fights off the poisin because it increases endorphins. I'm sure you and your family have heard everything but just wanted to put that out there. Again we are thinking of you!:)

OK so I am glad I'm taking Vitamin D right now becasue the lack of sun is not doing anything for my energy! I think that the sun may be trying to come out right now and I have my fingers crossed! I miss the sun big time.

I looked at my computer screen yesterday where I have a picture from spring break when we were on DCL and desided that it's time to go back! Then I went and played the lottery! Gotta get there quicker some way right?

Have a good day everyone!

E

Yeah the Cubs won today :cheer2::cheer2:

Bunchkin Glad you made it. I've been thinking about you. Sorry Tony's Mom is not a good canidate for Chemo. Hopefully something will come along. I hope you can take it easy soon.

With all this rain it feels like we all moved to Seattle.;)
