Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: didn't do much this weekend. I bought Ugly Betty Season 2 on DVD so I watched that yesterday instead of doing anything productive. I'm blaming it on the weather!

KateandEmysmom and FutureWDWCEO ~ :welcome: come by often!

Slo ~ glad to hear your house didn't get any water damage. but i will definitely keep kevin and the other emergency workers in my thoughts.... my brother in law is a Firefighter.

Morning everyone  It's been hectic weekend. I can't believe all the water everyone got! Thank goodness we're further north, but my grandfather got hit pretty bad. :sad2:

I hope you all are staying dry!!

Hi thanks for remembering me..I do miss this group and have thought of you often but With my new ( as of april) job i have been very busy plus the cruise thru the panama canal took a lot of my time.. but i am back..

PD and prayers for all who are battling water

MAC when do you leave? How is your foot and what happened to it??

Oh yeah? Nice!!! Which one? That Doorway to Dreams store is scary. I just walk in there and hear "cha-ching". I have this eerie feeling that we haven't made our last purchase there. :)

Hey futureWDWCEO- i am in Palatine just north of Rose in schaumburg but I WORK DOWNTOWN..

Hi everyone!!

Luckily for us we are situated on a hill so we didn't have any flooding. Actually the whole subdivision is raised up from the surrounding area. I did hear on the news this morning that a man in New Lenox is missing, possibly in a flooded creek in town. So sad. :sad1:

Looks like it's going to rain some more out here. Dark low lying clouds.

slo Kevin must be beat! I hope he's able to come home soon to sleep. I always pray for emergency workers. In fact, on 9-11 last week I went over to the neighbors house and told her to thank her husband, who is a leutenant on the fire dept., for all his hard work.
I'm glad your house was not flooded! :)
As for our weekend, because of the rain we decided not to go to downtown Naperville to eat like we were going to. Due to the fact that you have to park in a lot and walk to go any where, and I for sure didn't want to stroll around in the rain (especially dressed up and with my hair done!!)!!! So we went to eat in Orland at Bucca di Beppo (Italian place) and then went to the movies. It was a lot of fun and we ate way tooooooooo much!! :teeth:

Kim If you're reading this, I hope your neighborhood is not flooded. I saw on the news that some areas in the city's north side are flooded really bad. And I know you live on the north side, so I hope you're ok!!!! Let us know!! :goodvibes

momto1 Glad you're home safely!!

geffric Glad to see you pop in. How was the cruise? See a lot of DISers?

disneynut This weekend was a good one for staying inside!! :thumbsup2

mac Sorry to hear you're having probelms with both your legs.
I had my wisdom teeth pulled when I was 18. Since I was almost put completley to sleep for the procedure, all I wanted to do afterwards was sleep. I don't remember too much pain though.

Mac sorry to hear about both of your legs giving you problems. I hope they don't give you too much trouble when your on vacation.
I hope your son is doing ok after his procedure.

Geffric Nice to hear from you.

Slo glad your home is ok. I hope Kevin was able to get some sleep today. Prayers are said on a daily basis for all community service people especially during times like these.

As we were driving to work today and coming home again, we saw that the Dupage River through Naperville is up to the bridge bottoms.

YIKES!!!!

The Des Plaines river is down the road from me and it's high! I'm not too far from downtown Joliet where all the bridges are.

The canal through Joliet is reasonably easy to control. They open the dam wickets at Brondon Rd wide open and let it flow. In worst case, I've seen the open the locks partially and allow flow through there. Of course, this usually sucks for the residents of Seneca since that is the designated flood area for the river. If they hold it back upstream, they flood Joliet, and if they let it further downstream, they flood Ottawa. So, they usually hold it back in the Morris pool, meaning Seneca gets it all!

We were using a commandeered Jon boat one year to get back and forth across the parking lot at Springbrook Marina. :lmao:

We were all standing out on the dock in the morning getting drunk since there was no way to get from the dock to dry land. :lmao: We ultimately strung an anchor line across the harbor to the other side, then used the line to pull ourselves across the harbor in the Jon boat so we could get to te other dock, which was still accessible.

I've heard something about that in Seneca before. My mom has a summer place there in Woodsmoke Ranch.
If you want to learn more about the river and other local history, you should go to the Joliet History Museum on Chicago Street. Also, the Route 66 museum is connected to it. Very interesting!! ::yes::

Hi guys! Wow, what a weekend. I hope everyone is drying out. Luckily we didn't get any water. Salt Creek runs right behind the houses across the street, it is VERY high but years ago after a very bad flood in this area it was changed so that in times of need the creek will be diverted to a very, very large quary in town. When you drive by the quary normally you cannot see the bottom, well when I went by today you can easily see the water. People were pulled over looking at how high it was. It was truly amazing and made you realize that if that hadn't been done all that water would have flooded our homes around here. I'm sorry for all those that are flooded and those displaced. Hopefully the week of sun they are forecasting will help keep the problem from getting any worse.

We ended up not going to BILs cabin in Wisconsin, glad we decided to stay home. I would have been a wreck up there worrying about our basement and neighborhood. We'll go when it's going to be sunny.

Bunchkin - Happy Anniversary (tomorrow)!! We just celebrated 13yrs back in May, doesn't the time just fly by!!
*Thanks for the MNSSHP tips. We have an ADR @ LTT at 4:30p so we'll hit Frontierland after that. I thought about cancelling but since they're doing away with the characters there I want one last hurrah.

Kateandemysmom - Welcome! Always happy to have more friends here. Come often so we can get to know you.

Hersey - we had our air on this weekend too because of the humidity. It literally felt wet in the house so DH put it on, I thought the neighbors were going to think we were nuts but it really made a difference.

slo - my thoughts and prayers are with you, Kevin and all those in your area dealing with this disaster. Glad you didn't flood and I hope Kevin gets some sleep soon. Are you in Munster?

Laurabearz - Hi! Welcome! I think I 'met' you on the HHI thread. We took our first trip there back in March for Spring Break. We had a WONDERFUL time and my kids are asking when we get to go back. It ranked right up there with WDW for them.

futureWDWCEO - Welcome to the DIS, the Chicago thread and Chicago! My DBro & SIL live near Seattle.
*I know what you mean about the Doorway to Dreams store, when they had the first member event we did an add on. DH was tempted again this year at the Anniversary event. Be very, very wary of those Member Events they have, always very tempting.......

mac - so sorry to hear about the leg problems, hopefully the Doc will have some better news for you. I hpe it won't interfere with your trip.
*Best of luck to your DS on his wisdom teeth. I had mine done when I was in HS, completely knocked out, made me sick and then one socket got infected - not a good memory.
**Thanks for the listings, have the DVC one set to record.

Tiggern - sorry about the roof leak, hopefully it is just the gutters.

Geffric, momto1, Crissup, disneygal, paint and all - :wave2:

Well, I'm off to watch the news and catch up on the world. Have a good night everyone! :flower3:

Hey all!

I remember coming here last year... Hi!

I'm in Algonquin... mom of 4 (only 3 still live at home). My oldest goes to school at University of Illinois Springfield. My daughter McKenzie is in 6th grade, my son Logan is 3 and a half and my daughter Piper is 1.

I am bookmarking this so I can find ya'll again! :O)

I've heard something about that in Seneca before. My mom has a summer place there in Woodsmoke Ranch.

Woodsmoke is way up on the hill outside of town, so they don't have much to worry about (except the chemical in their swimming pools). ;)

If you want to learn more about the river and other local history, you should go to the Joliet History Museum on Chicago Street. Also, the Route 66 museum is connected to it. Very interesting!!

I've never been there. I've been to the visitor's center at the Starved Rock Lock many, many times. We used to purchase our river charts there every year or two and they have a small museum about the river, the locking system and the river traffic inside. Then you can walk upstairs and watch them lock the traffic through if you like. Of course, I grew up in the West Park area, so we used to jump the highway fence and run across I-80 down into Rockdale and watch them lock through at Brandon Rd, so It's not a big deal to me (not to mention we locked through them many times ourselves by boat).

I'd *love* the check out the Route 66 museum some time though. ::yes::

Poor Kevin didn't get home until 4pm yesterday afternoon. When I came home from work at dinner time (my employee worked last night) I took one look at him, and I felt so bad for him. I have never seen a face and eyes, so tired in all my life. So we ate dinner, took Stephanie to tutoring, I drove him to his parents (in our town) to check their house because they are on out of town, drove to the firestation for him to get something, got Steph, came home, and he went straight to bed. He fell asleep so fast, it was incredible. I felt so bad when I woke him up this morning. He is still so tired, and so so sore from everything he went through yesterday. Now he has to face all this terrible traffic to get up by Midway - this is going to be such an awful long day for him. I hope he doesn't fall asleep at the wheel - I"m very worried about that!!!

Thank you to all that said they are keeping Kevin, his FD team, and all emergency workers in your thoughts and prayers. They need them, it's such an exhausting job, and for those, like Kevin, they get paid very very little, because its "volunteer". I'm so proud of them all!!!!!:goodvibes

Stephanie doesn't have school again today, so she is quite happy about that:yay: :woohoo: They are going to be with my mom again today, and they are very happy about that too:) If the water doesn't receed around here, they probably won't have school again tomorrow. What a crazy time!!!

geffric - I"m glad you didn't get any flooding :)

DG - I've never watched Ugly Betty - is it real funny?

DMM - How is grandfather doing? Did his house get water?

Mac - Did you get water with all the bad weather?

momto1 - Did your DS's school get cancelled again today?

Bunchkin - I"m sorry the rain ruined your original plans for Saturday:guilty: but I"m glad you were able to still something, and still have a nice time:goodvibes Today is your actual anniversary right? So........
Happy Anniversary!!!! :)

HERSEY - Did Alex have school cancelled?

Crissup - Isn't it unsettling when you see water up to a bridge:eek: We have several areas like that around our town.

ID - I'm glad you didn't have any flooding by you. Has the creek crested by you? If you don't know, you should be able to call your town hall, and they should hopefully know.

maizie - Welcome back!!! :) Please do come back soon, we would like to get to know you!!

Well, I gotta go workout, no more not working out!!!!
I haven't worked out since Wednesday morning, and I'm feeling incredibly guilty. I was going to yesterday, but I was tired myself from stressing out on Sunday, and then barely sleeping Sunday night because I had the FD radio on, and was waking up all the time when someone would speak or the tone would go off. But I wanted to keep an ear open on what was going on.

So, now I must go
Have a good day everyone!!!!

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: well, this is the week my sister moves!:cool1: my dad and i are going to pick up their dog this evening and he'll be staying with us until friday evening. he's a chorky (half Chihuahua half yorky) and pretty small.:goodvibes with the movers coming on thursday and all the in and out they will be doing she doesn't want him to run out the door. (he did that 2 years ago at my nephews bday party, we were all running around the neighborhood after him) They close tomorrow so hopefully everything will go smoothly for her, she's been majorly stressed! :wizard:

Slo ~ ugly betty is a funny show. it is based off the Columbian telenovela "betty la fea" so it is over-dramatic funny 100% of the time. :lmao: I enjoy it! :thumbsup2

maiziezoe ~ :welcome: stop by often! :)

everyone else ~ :wave2: have a wonderful day!

Morning everyone!

I hope everyone is still doing well!

Sandy, I hope your DH gets to catch up on sleep.

Grandpa got a lot of water in his basement and the sewers all back up, so of course he had to shut his water off to clean up the problem. There were little kids rafting down his street!

Afternoon all.
Slo, many thanks to Kevin and all the volunteers for their help. People never realize how important volunteers are until they need someone. It is a wonderful gift to give of yourself and your time to help others.
So glad you didn't suffer any flooding yourself. I feel so bad for all those who have troubles right now.

Bunchkin, Happy Anniversary!! Hope you have a lovely day today.

Hello to everyone. I have got to get moving and get some things done here today. I also have to go check out the soccer fields this afternoon. DH and I coach the little kids and we are supposed to practice tonight.:wizard: for the fields to be dry enough. I know our own lawn is still too water logged. I had planned to mow, but that is on hold now until tomorrow.
Later
