 Hi There All,

Well, the stress at work finally got to me. I went to see my doctor yesterday because I was feeling real bad over the weekend. The doc took one look at my back and told me that I have Shingles. That explains the severe pain, itching and burning sensation I had been feeling on my chest and back the past few days. I got started on some meds yesterday, but woke up again the morning with the burning sensation on my chest, the Shingles are no fun at all...........:sad2:

If anyone has some extra :wizard: feel free to send some my way, it will be greatly appreciated!!!

My Best to Everyone,
Andy

I'm going on a 3 day wonder cruise on september 6th, what am I going to do I know I will have a good time, but I think it will be way to short, I've been on a 4 night on and 2 7 night ones.

Julia, I agree the 3 day will seem short, but a 3 day is better than a no day......have a WONDERful time..........:thumbsup2

 OMG Andy, how awful!!!!

Sending plenty of :wizard: and :grouphug: your way.

DB had shingles in his 20s and it was no fun. And it stinks being ill in the middle of the summer. I hope the meds start kicking in soon as I'm sure you're in a lot of pain.

I've been sidelined this summer. I fractured my toe in two places three weeks ago. I walked into the vacuum cleaner. Hit the pinkie toe square on the corner of a Hoover upright vacuum. I knew instantly something was broken.

First doctor to look at it said it would heal in 2-3 weeks. Wrong. A podiatrist looked at my foot last week and said 6-8 weeks!!! I told the doc we're heading to the Jersey shore on Saturday for a week of surfing and boogie boarding. Doc said I'm not even allowed in the water :scared1: Too risky being in the waves and banging the toe around.

I was so devastated. I'm a Jersey girl through and through and the ocean is in my blood. We were planning on buying surf boards this summer to use.

At least I'll have the Harry Potter book to keep me company on the sand.

Thank goodness I'm not going to WDW/DCL until the end of August. Everything should be healed by then. We're signed up for the snorkeling boat excursion at CC. Bought a fancy underwater camera and can't wait to try it out.

Andy...Feel better I got the shingles when I was 16. Good thing is that it's on your back and chest and not your face, like some people get it.

Ski & Sea...Feel better

Julia...3 day cruise is better than none. I am doing 7 days in WDW and a 3 night cruise next April. I also think the cruise is too short but its a nice fix.

Julia.....we're on the August 23rd 3-night Wonder. Sure, its shorter but not inferior. We plan on staying onboard at Nassau and treat that as a sea day. I plan on seeing all the shows and not hanging out in the cabin as much as the 7-night. So I expect it won't be quite as relaxing as the 7-night but I intend to pack in a lot of fun.

Someone posted the 3-night Navigators from earlier this month and I've already planned out what we're going to do.

So sorry to hear about your broken toe and being sand bound. Angelina went to Ocean City last week with her friend Kristen, today she is at Sea Isle City with her boyfriend's family.

I trust you will be feeling much better by WDW/DCL time next month!!!
:thumbsup2

I just woke up from a medicine induced nap  and discovered that a new rash has started on my chest and now my right eye is beginning to itch, I pray the rash doesn't start appearing on my face. I had a friend who had Shingles around his eyes and it looked horrible.

Hazel is bringing me some lunch so I've got to go for now.

Andy,

Around the eye is better than in it. My uncle did that and ended up in the hospital on morphine because the internal pressure in his eyeball got dangerously high.

I empathize with your plight. I had shingles about 12 years ago. Mine was down the left side of my neck, across the shoulder and down to the elbow. The pain made using my left arm an interesting challenge. (My doctor teases me, because I never do anything 'by the book'.)

Here's hoping it clears up soon. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Dori :cool1:

Thanks Dori, and I agree, around the eye would be better than in the eye......:thumbsup2

A co-worker of mine had the shingles around his eyes and one eye was completely shut, he looked horrible for quite awhile. I pray I don't have to go through what he went through. Hopefully, I caught it early enough to get a good head start on the healing before it has a chance to get any worse.

Fortunately, it is rare to have shingles in more than one nerve trunk. Since you are already experiencing it on your chest, I would say that the likelihood of getting it on the head as well is low.

For those that don't know it, shingles is caused by the same virus that causes Chicken Pox. When you 'recover' from Chicken Pox the virus attaches to a nerve trunk and goes dormant. It can be years before it exhibits as shingles. (I had Chicken Pox as an infant and didn't have shinges until I was in my 30's.)

Here's hoping that the weather isn't too hot and sticky for you. I image that would make the itch worse.

Here's more pixie dust and a hug! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Dori ;)

Jeez.....how can it get worse????? Sending more :wizard: your way.

Can you tolerate sitting and reading? We went to the midnight party at our local book store to get the Harry Potter book. One the way home I firmly resolved that I would read the book straight through and not peek at the ending.

By Saturday morning I lost my resolve. I read the last two chapters first. I couldn't stand it - I had to know. :rolleyes1 My kids admitted they did the exact same thing.

But we do plan on reading the entire thing from the beginning. Books V & VI were released right before we cruised and I lugged those books in my carryon to read on the ship.

My 15 yr old daughter wen tto the midnight book buying party also and got home about 2 am started reading and then read all day Saturday, we had a BBQ but she went into total lockdown, she couldn't have the radio on, off th ecomputer etc until she was done reading it. She finished somewhere between 8-9 on Saturday night. Then got on the phone with her 2 friends, who were also in lockdown and talked about the book on a 3 way call.

It was like a town party at our local bookstore. And we, too, had a barbecue the next day where the kids were all discussing the book.

Saw my chiropractor yesterday because my limping is throwing my back out. He, too, read the book in about a day and told me reading the last two chapters really doesn't reveal everything.

Ya gotta love Rowlings for making sure you enjoy the entire book. But I'm so bummed this is the end.

Hey, I just got a new door sign theme....."Witches and Wizards on the Wonder" (just need to find a picture of Sorcerer Mickey).

Harry Potter doesn't do anything for me, never read any of the books, never saw any of the movies, just not my cup of tea I guess........:confused3

Angelina never got interested in HP either.

And you sail on a ship called the "Magic".......j/k......

The books are really well written and a fantastic read.....try 'em.

Yep 24 more days until we board the Explorer of the Seas out of Bayonne, NJ.

I will let you all know when I get back my take on Royal Caribbean and leaving out of a local pier. :)

So sorry to hear about your toe. It stinks that your vacation is now with your toe. My niece had to cancel soccer camp because she hurt her knee, my Sister was really sad because she lost her deposit and she really wanted a week without her teenager!

 Hi Linda,

Thanks for your message. I think I'm going to try and make it in to work today. If nothing else, the meds are helping me get some good nights of sleep. The past two nights I have been able to sleep through the night without waking up until 5:30!!! :woohoo:

I am feeling a bit better this morning, my chest doesn't feel as sore as it has been the past few days. :goodvibes
