Hi! I'm doing the old solo trip and I want to see everything I've never seen, and I've never seen AKL (shocking! I know!!! :) ) so I want to go there for lunch.

Where should I go? I think there's more than one restaurant, right? I really don't want counter service. What do you think? Should I make a reservation for lunch?

Thanks!

unfortunately, there are no sit down's in AK. RFC is just outside the AK gate which is the only sit down.

As to the counter service sites, Tusker house is proably the best, or Flame Tree

Sorry! I mean Animal Kingdom Lodge! I've been to AK, just not AKL!

Table Service:
Jiko - A la carte, Serves dinner. Features open-kitchen section
Boma - Buffet, open for breakfast and dinner. Environment - African marketplace

Mara is a quick-service restaurant, that offers and poolside dining. Open all day long

There is also a lounge and a poolside bar.

I've only eaten at Boma - and LOVED it! The buffet setup is great and the atmosphere is so inviting. The food is incredible. Unfortunately (or not), only breakfast and dinner are served at Boma and only dinner at Jiko. Possibly a late lunch would be in order? Jiko seems to be more upscale than Boma and also seems to weigh more heavily as far as price goes (a la carte VS buffet). For either place, I would recommend making an Advanced Dinner Reservation - especially Boma.

Since this would be the first visit to AKL, I would plan for an hour or so (even if you choose to not eat there) to just walk around inside the resort. Of course the amazing lobby is there, but also there are sitting areas (inside and outside) around the resort, where viewing of the animals is breathtaking.

Wow, thanks for the info! I'm glad I asked, I was just going to wander over and have lunch! Maybe I'll just go over for a drink or something to check it out. Is there are bar?

Yes there is a bar! Victoria Falls...and it overlooks the 'waiting areas" for Jiko and Boma...so you're gonna get some GREAT smells up there!

I think you can get appetizer type foods there too...but don't quote me on it!

I love Victoria Falls, it's one of my favorite Disney bars. And yep, you can get just a few things there - snack mix, Boma dessert plate (which I think is $12...half the price of just going to Boma!), and an enormous fruit and cheese plate. We've made the fruit and cheese plate our dinner a couple times now.

Edit: nearly every time we go to Jiko, we're sitting next to someone on a solo trip (since we always sit at the Cooking Place). We almost always have a nice conversation.

DH and I really enjoyed our dinner @ Jiko. We ordered the tomato stack salad with watermellon vinegarette dressing it was awesome. Also, an appetizer sampler that was very good. :goodvibes DH order the filet with mac and cheese and I ordered the Monkfish..both were delicious. I believe the Monkfish is no longer on the menu. Boma was breakfast and lunch...we really enjoyed it! Mara a few times a pretty good food court. All and all you can't go wrong with any of these restaurants. Bon apetit!
