Caller ID and screening

we finally broke down and got caller id to stop all these telemarketing calls.

I do not answer unknown id's and this is why:

We are in the process of teaching our ds6 phone etiquette. well the phone rang the other day and he picked it up before I could check caller id.

ds: hello, hi daddy. uh-huh. uh-huh. uh-huh. ok. yep. here mom
me: make sure you say one moment please
ds: one moment please
me: who is?
ds: I have NO idea! (and of course he said this with as much attitude he could muster)

well it was a telemarketer! ds was "on the phone" with him for a good 2 minutes going "uh-huh" before he gave the phone to me!

Poor fellow was flustered trying to get this 6 yo to give me the phone

After posting on Tigger&Belle's "phone issues" thread, I have another question.
How many of you screen your calls with caller ID and won't answer it if you don't know who it is? I won't, except in very few instances. T&B did call me the other day and I answered! Caller ID only gave a phone number and the state she lived in, but she has just told me in an IM that she was going to call! If I hadn't known, I wouldn't of answered it! Iwill say it does leave me wondering sometimes who called. But then I figure if they didn't feel it important enough to leave a messege, then it must not be important to me.
Also, does anyone else leave phone numbers that they want to save, in Caller ID? Sort of like a built in phone book!

I refuse to answer the phone if I don't know who it is....if they leave me a message and it is someone I know...I will return the call.

I always answer cell phones even if I don't recognize the number, because I figure a telemarketer wouldn't be calling from their cell! Everytime it's been someone I know whose cell number I haven't memorized.

Despite being on the Do Not Call list, we sometimes get 5-10 calls a day from telemarketers. Drives me NUTS!!

We don't have caller id, but we *used* to screen using our answering machine. Even my mom eventually gave up and started leaving messages - she hates leaving messages. But, since my brother is currently in Iraq, we always answer the phone.... more often than not, it isn't him, but if he called and I missed it, I'd be very upset.

On my cell, again, I have to answer every call b/c my brother's calls come up from different numbers since he's calling from a pay phone w/ a calling card. Usually if I don't know the number, it's someone calling for Shane. Extremely annoying. We've had this number for 8yrs and ppl have been calling for Shane for the past 3yrs. Used to be only between 4-6pm, but now it's unpredictable. And no, I'm not lying --- Shane is NOT here!
