Call Waiting - Rude!

I agree with DocRafiki..... some calls are more important than others- doesn't mean the person making the call is more important however. With my soon to be teenage daughter and 5 yo son going to school and friends houses and the like- I want to be pretty easy to reach. BTW- if someone takes too long while taking another call.... I hang up. I assume the call is important and my friend will get back to me.... no big deal.

Dan , I agree with you. We have all of the above, and Privacy Mgr is worth its price!!The people that say they don't like "call waiting", are the same ones that tie up there phone line for hrs and don't know how frustrating that is for the person trying to reach them. These people should wake up come out of the "dark ages"!!

LOL............I'm posting from the DARK AGES . There's no way,no how that we're ever going to get call waiting in our household; my DW is in total agreement. If we're on the phone, or on the computer, people can leave messages on our voicemail. We always call them back promptly. For emergencies involving contacts from hospital staff, we both carry pagers.

I agree with your thinking,(voicemail,pager, etc), but I am talking about people that don't have any other options to leave a message. All you get is a "constant busy signal", for a long period of time.

And when people are on the PC(especially kids) and don't have a separate line for their PC, how does someone get a hold of them in an emergency?These examples are what I am concerned about.

Hmm, don't think I qualify in the "dark ages" group - voice mail, cable modem & a cell phone (granted that's relatively new). I just think that it's rude to be bumped down the queue because someone (non-business, non-emergency) else is on the line. Looks like from now on I'll just count to 15 & if they aren't back by then, hang up.


Just to clarify, most of my friends aren't even married & none have kids (of course most of my friends are selfish knobs anyway ). My folks live an hour away (so any emergency, they'd call neighbors or friends in the area) & my sister works late so any emergency would be at a time when I'm not on the phone anyway.

I feel the same way Jeff. We don't have call waiting, but do have a second line. I let the machine get it. I REALLY hate it when someone calls me and then makes me wait while they answer another call!
