I got a call from a realtor located in Orlando asking if we wanted to rent or sell our ownership. My answer was a strong "NO!" We have only owned since September and have not even stayed using points. I didn't write down the name. I am curious if anyone else had this happen. How do they get your name and number?

Probably got your name from the Registry of Deeds after you purchased. I cannot stand telemarketing, myself.

I have never received a phone call yet but I have received things in the mail looking to buy the timeshare.

I guess it's good to know that people are looking to buy in case, heaven forbid, that I would ever sell mine.

I have received several calls from re-sellers and many mailings telling me that they are the ones to do the best job in selling my points. I asked the last caller where she got my phone number and she told me that it's public record from my purchase in 1993. I just say "NO" and hang up. The calls only started 6 months ago, so I think it is the result of the price hike. The mailings have been going on for about 4 years now.

I have not received phone calls (yet!) but every few weeks I get those postcards from Century 21 Timeshare Resales to sell ours. Just more junk mail!

Bet you it was Century 21 or one of those other groups that want to list for outrageous prices and all you have to do is pay for a $495 or such "Appraisal" or "listing fee". IT'S A SCAM. They take you're money and do little else. Actually the fee is how they make their money. RUN AWAY.

Hasn't happened to us yet....but thanks for the warning! I'd probably laugh at someone who wanted me to sell my points..."NO WAY! ARE YOU NUTS?" and then hang up.

quote:
That's pretty despicable. [/quote]

What's despicable about it? The marketers simply went to the courthouse and got publicly available information. We get postcards all the time from realtors wanting to sell our house. Is it irritating? Yes. Is it despicable? Well, that's pretty harsh...

What is despicable about it is that I have received 3 messages to my home telephone number over the past year and a half. Each time the message was deceptive/misleading in an attempt to get me to call them back.

The last one mentioned my name and stated that they had some exiting news about my DVC timeshare and that I should call them ASAP. It did not state who they were.

We get those calls all the time. They really make me mad when they act like they know exactly who I am and all about my timehsare and how they were referred personally to me, and then start making references to my week color, which immediately clues me in to the fact that they are salesmen trying to sweet talk me and are clueless about anything to do with DVC. I just politely but firmly tell them they are full of you know what and not to ever call me again.

That situaion is one of the benefits of going by your middle name and having a difficult last name. When I get a call for Thomas, Tom or they have great difficulty with my last name; I then know I'm going to have some fun. I tell them they need the other Mr. Dalrymple and put my son on the phone (worked better when he was younger), I answer questions with unrelated questions. I ask for their home phone so I can call them later, when they say they can't do it because they don't take business calls at home, I say exactly. I ask them to hold on and go away for 20 minutes at a time, for some reason they're never there when I get back to the phone. While I'm talking to them, I call loudly for my "medication" making it clear that it's psychiatric medication, I may really need some soon, you never know. I haven't resorted to singing to them, I don't want to be arrested for manslaughter. One of these days I'm going to act like I'm being murdered, something like describing the knife in graphic detail, then screaming and dropping the phone; well you get the picture. I've yet to make it an obscene phone call, easy to do without breaking any laws.

I guess that we're lucky. We have yet to receive any phone calls or mailers pertaining to our DVC purchase. We purchased in 97 so maybe that year fell through the cracks. I love Dean's responce to them though. There is actually a CD out that some comedian did that is all on practical jokes on tele-marketers. I love the one where the carpet cleaners call him and he starts asking them about removing blood and how fast they can get there.

A friend of mine said that it was because I bought resale and not direct from Disney that I got this call. Could this be true?

I think most of these guys get their leads from the Internet and newly recorded deeds. If you've posted any adds anywhere, you're sure to hear from them. Once you get on their list, they keep sending you emails galore.

LOL, that's hilarious Dean.
There's nothing you can do to stop the calls so you might as well have a little fun...

With telemarketers, I'll let them get part way thru their spiel, then start sobbing and sniffling softly. When they pause, I just say, in a broken voice, "I'm sorry...could you call back after the funeral?"

Works every time.

Remembering when ... there was a narrow-gage train that circulated through Ft. Wilderness.

My son likes to tweek the telemarketers...when the ask..."Is Dad home?" he (12 yr old) responds, "that SOB walked out on Mom and me 8 years ago. If you find that &*%$, tell him to come home!"

Thet never call back!

We've had about 6 messages left on our machine in the last six months. Never got to talk to anyone in person. With telemarketers I never let them get to their shpiel (sp?). They can not pronounce our last name so I imediately tell them to take us off their calling list. Federal law says they most do so. Have yet to have the same business call twice.
