Chuck(I think) from DVC Quality Assurance called me and asked if I had received my second Member's card with the new ID number. ( I had) He explained because I bought a resale with a different use year I would have two Member's numbers. He asked if I had any questions regarding managing two UY. He suggested that I go the Member's Website and add my new number to the e-mail list to receive updates that might affect my new UY. He also said anytime I call MS to tell them that I have 2 Member numbers.
I thought that the call was great customer service considering I bought my add-on from a resale vendor.

I did the same and got the same call. I have experienced alot of confusion on the part of member services when making ressies and using the 2 member numbers.

They only have to transfer points from one account to the other but they get really confused because they have to bring up a different screen on the computer for each account.

Good Luck Felicia

We have two member numbers (2 use years) as well and so far no problems with MS. Whenever we call they see the OKW and BCV contracts and confirm which contract we want to work with.

This is the usual though I have seen a couple of people post that they didn't get a phone call with the second membership. One thing to realize with multiple contracts and member numbers is that MS does have some flexibility in transferring points from one contract to another when it's truly necessary. Say yo have 6 banked points in one contract and needed 12, you could transfer 6 from the other contract even if they're also banked points. It appears one cannot use this method to get around the home resort priority (though that's come into question) so when the points are from different home resorts you would have to wait until the 7 month window. This is also good to know when you're doing exchanges that require all to be in one contract, like cruises, CC and the like. You could do it with CC directly from 2 contracts but you might get 2 $75 fees. Take home message is to not let the DVC MS rep tell you that something can't be done simply because of the limitations of their computer systems. You may need to have them ask their supervisor or even talk to them yourself.

Thanks Dean. This info will be helpful. Even though my different UY is a small contract I was nervous about losing points.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. If you know exactly what you want and it only affects one contract, only tell them that number. Giving them both numbers when you're only dealing wiht one contract is simply asking for trouble. You should always give them the member number and not let them look it up by name or SSN. When corresponding, I like to make sure I give them the exact member number and if I'm doing anything that will affect points totals (ressies, banking, etc), I always give them the # points involved as well as the ending balance (from my records) of both the current and next use years.

If you are discussing multiple contracts on the same call or email, do give them all numbers with as much info as possible. For example, if the resorts or use years or different, refer to them that way. Starting a request with "from the August OKW contract make December reservations for..." or the like is adviseable. Then give them every detail. On this call we've used X points from my April OKW contract and Y points from my Aug OKW contract. That leaves me with ## points in this years April OKW, ## points in the April 2004 use year. For the Aug OKW contract that leaves me ## points in the 2003 use year and ## in the 2004 use year.

I know some of this can seem a little OC, and yes I am that at times. But your life will be much better in the long run if you pay attentiion to detail now. I'm sure other can post about trying to figure out what happened when DVC messed up their ressies using the wrong points or wrong contract.

Just last week I was makeing ressies from 2 different contracts, and the MS rep was going to allow me to loose 3 points from my BCV contract.

I actually had to give her step by step instructions on what to do.

1. I need 13 points for one night and have 3 that will expire so transfer 10 bwv points to the bcv contract and book that one night.

ms replied "i cant they are 2003 points and you cannot transfer borrowed points"

I replied you can because the points are to be booking a studio for aug. 003 and will be in their appropriate use year.

she said ooooooohhhhhhh and guess what she did it!!!!

You really have to watch out for yourself when you have 2 resorts and or use year contracts.

And when it's multiple contracts of a single owner they "have significantly more flexibility in transfers" and will allow you to transfer banked or borrowed points if the need is obvious.

Another poster gave me some advice that has worked well with my 3 contracts--get a large notebook, and give one section to each contract and record EVERYTHING and date it. That way, when you are discussing something with MS you have your previous notes to go by. It helps to put your member number at the top of the page, too, so you don't have to find your membership card every time you talk to MS about something.
