California Screamin'

As coasters go California Scream'n is not a scary coaster. The initial launch from a dead stop may get some people the first time. Watch from the walkway above so you know what to expect.

As coasters go on a scary scale from 1 to 10 I'd rank Scream'n a 4 or 5. Gadgets Go Coaster a 1, Big Thunder a 2, Space Mountain a 3. A 10 would be something like Tatsu at Six Flags Magic Mountain.

If you like Space Mountain you'll be fine on Scream'n. Its a very smooth fun roller coaster and certainly not scary comparitevly. Start out sitting in the middle rows. Front is considered slightly scarier and favored by many. The back gives a slight weightless feeling as the car goes through dips etc.

Isn't that funny............I LOVE Space Mountain but will no longer go on Screamin........I went once to say I'd tried it but no more, it really scares me witless

Thanks everyone for your responses! I want to go on CS because I don't know if this will be my last trip to DL. I'm a contract employee and my contract will be up in September, and won't be sure what my job situation will be next year.

Well it doesn't matter where you live or anything. It might be your last visit for awhile but you can always find time to go when you have time off. But I think you would regret it if you didn't try it. Remember that Disney makes "family" rides and wouldn't want to make something too Freaky for kids and loads of little kids go on this.

If it's your last trip to Disneyland, don't go on it. You'll be kicking yourself for not trying it sooner, and you'll find excuses to return to Disneyland just to ride it.

My wife hates roller coasters, but she loves California Screamin'.

My 6-year old loves it, but he loves most roller coasters.

My 3-year old wishes she could go on it, but she's about 4" too short. She's been on more intense roller coasters (with lower height restrictions), and she's NEVER met a roller coaster she didn't love.

California Screamin' is very smooth, relatively slow (other than the launch), very long, and pretty tame. The launch will put you back in your seat, but it's really enjoyable. I like the linear induction technology MUCH better than being jerked up a hill by a chain. The music really adds a lot to the ride, too.

First time I road CS I just closed my eyes and WOOOOO HOOOOO'd the entire time. Next time, eyes open except for the upside down part. Third time, eyes open all the way...laughing. I finally made it to the front seat, but I think I like being in the back better! :lmao: This was at age 50 and I'd only JUST ridden Rock nRollercoaster in WDW for the first time a few months before (riding one in the dark is a great way to start). I'm not a fan of big drops, and found the drops on CS to be 'modest' and easy to handle.

I have found that screaming (or WOOO HOOOing) really helps....

.

I rode Screamin' on our last trip and I actually liked it. I am very much a "frady cat", so I didn't want to at first but my nephew coaxed :upsidedow me to do it. He told me a little trick.....he said to lean into the turns and drops. At first I was like, are you crazy :sad2: , do you really think that I'm going to lean forward when I am going downhill :scared1:, but I did it and it worked! I think it has to do with a feeling of being more in control when you go with the movement. I used to freeze up and get really stiff whenever there's a drop on any ride, but that only made me feel worse.

I hope this doesn't sound too silly. Last year, I wanted to go on California Screamin' but I chickened out. My DH & I are going in a week and a half and I would like to ride it this year.

1. Is it really scary?
2. I wear contact lenses, will they pop out?
3. Am I a wuss for asking these questions?

:confused3

My daughter would not ride it the first time, I told her she may never get a chance to ride it again if she does not do it ( during the second trip) she said she could have kiched her self, it was not as fast as it looks, nor scary at all. She loves it and she is not a coaster kid. So take it from me, she loved it so will you !! I wear glasses and they have never fallen off. :) stop being a wuss, go do it and enjoy.
