I hope this doesn't sound too silly. Last year, I wanted to go on California Screamin' but I chickened out. My DH & I are going in a week and a half and I would like to ride it this year.

1. Is it really scary?
2. I wear contact lenses, will they pop out?
3. Am I a wuss for asking these questions?

:confused3

1. Not at all, it's pretty tame for a launching, looping coaster.

2. Highly unlikely.

3. Kinda.

you'll be fine, it's nothing compared to some "roller coaster parks"
I am afraid of heights and will not ride the mickeys fun wheel but I will ride Screamin :) over and over again i love it :cool1:
I wear contacts too, never had a problem :)

1. It's an awesome coaster! If you like coasters you'll like this one.....it has enough ups and downs to get the thrill out of it, but not so many back to back that you feel sick:thumbsup2

2. I wear contacts and I've never had a problem with ANY coaster least of all Screaming......eyes may water a bit but definitely no contact loss.

3. Better to ask and TRY the coaster than not......

1. If you like thrill and fast rides then this is definitely perfect. If your afraid of heights and sudden drops then I would recommend staying away. Also if you have like neck problems I dont recommend it.

2. I wear contacts and I have NEVER had a problem

3. Are you a wuss? No I dont think so. It took me 2 trips to get the courage to get on it, but once I did I started regretting not going before. Its one of the best rides ever. I wont lie though... I do believe the scariest part of the ride is the very beginning take off. You take off so fast that gravity presses your back against your seat and you cant help but let out that scream... But once down that first dip your laughing the rest of the way.

I find loops in coasters to be the easiest part of the coaster. I don't want to sit in the front during the daytime; thankfully I've been put in the middle cars. Just don't want to see the track in front of me. The only hard part, to me, is the take-off, it almost hurts my lungs, but I have traditionally weak lungs.

I don't think your contacts will come out.

Keep your head BACK. You don't want it to be forward at the takeoff, that's not comfortable. Keep it back the whole time. That's my word of advice.

And use the Single Rider line so you don't chicken out while in a longer line. :)

But Molly, the front seat is the BEST seat! Just ask Callie!! I had never ridden in the front until she got me to do it; and now that's my preferred seat.

I did the front at night, the first time I rode, after some liquid courage...I don't think I'm quite ready for it when I can actually see what's in front of me...:flower3:

Really a fun not freaky coaster. Not like some of the COASTERS at other parks. Try it, you will like it.

Jack

It it is not as scary as it looks, waiting in line in anticipation is scarier then the ride itself, I had to force a friend on last time and he loved it.:)

As for the contacts, you should be fine, I usually wear sunglasses when I ride and they've never fallen off.

As coasters go California Scream'n is not a scary coaster. The initial launch from a dead stop may get some people the first time. Watch from the walkway above so you know what to expect.

As coasters go on a scary scale from 1 to 10 I'd rank Scream'n a 4 or 5. Gadgets Go Coaster a 1, Big Thunder a 2, Space Mountain a 3. A 10 would be something like Tatsu at Six Flags Magic Mountain.

If you like Space Mountain you'll be fine on Scream'n. Its a very smooth fun roller coaster and certainly not scary comparitevly. Start out sitting in the middle rows. Front is considered slightly scarier and favored by many. The back gives a slight weightless feeling as the car goes through dips etc.

My family returned from our June 13th-20th trip and my son and hubby rode Californian Screamin, I think 4 times. They both LOVED it! My son is 13. My daughter and I watched several people including my son and hubby get ready to launch. Would I ever ride it? NO WAY!!! I'm totally not into thrill rides. Now, son begged me to do Space Mt. so I did. I rode Space Mt. at WDW last year and then this year Disneyland. I also rode the Matterhorn. California Screamin, I just couldn't do personally. But............if it is something you have wanted to ride, then I say GO FOR IT! It is called a thrill ride for a reason! HAVE FUN:scared1:

Just for contrast, I love Space Mountain and did not care for California Screamin'. I don't really like drops. I watched a ride-through on YouTube and it looked quite tame, but that ride-through didn't really show the drops. They weren't awful, but I think there were three that are worse than Splash Mountain. Although, the music was cutting in and out on our ride at California Screamin'--if it had been working properly, I might have enjoyed it a bit more.

My friend, who despises loops, did not like the coaster either. Both of us were a bit unsteady with adrenalin for a little while afterwards.

I do not regret riding it by any means--it wasn't TERRIFYING or anything. And if you LOVE Splash Mountain's drop and don't mind loops (and if the quick launch doesn't scare you), I think you'll probably like it. Regardless, I would say that if you regret not riding it, certainly give it a try. But I personally found it "scary" and probably won't be on it again unless I coax my good friend to go to DL, in which case I promised to ride it once with her (and then she's welcome to do Single Rider all she likes :) ). I think it might help to ride at night too.

(No contact lens issues though! I agree with the "head back" advice.)

It does feel faster at night yes. OP I'm not one to ride coasters too much, in fact I don't even ride Screamin' every trip but I do like it. It's very fun, very fast and exciting! I wear contacts and have never had any problems with it at all.

I hate riding Space Mountain - I just find it very turbulent/nauseating.

I hate the Sun Wheel at night - it terrifies me (I didn't know I was scared of heights until I tried it for the first time, and it happened to be night time.)

I tried Sun Wheel again a year later (our next trip back) in the daytime and was 'o.k' with it- not huge amounts of fun, but o.k.

I love BTMR and I LOVE California Screamin'! I was so terrified to try it for the first time, but did it without fuss to encourage our son, who also had never been on it, and who really wanted to try it.

Turns out, our then 6 year old loves it, too!! It's probably our favorite rides.

It is very smooth, and my advice is to turn your head/body into the turns. YES! Hold your head back when you take off. It is a cool feeling- I know what people mean when they say it takes your breath away, but it's a little less harsh than that... I mean, that's the only way I also know how to describe it, but it's a little more than that. Almost like a little thrill goes racing through your chest and then throat! :goodvibes

Good luck, and do only try it if you feel o.k. about it, but I think if I can do it, you can too. I had never been on any roller coaster before (BTMR and Space Mountain were the only ones.) My whole family does not like Space Mountain, we all find it to be more wild feeling than California Screamin', but I know that is opposite to what many others feel. I think it's because SM is in the dark, and I need to see/know where I am going. Same reason I didn't like the Mummy coaster at Universal (going backwards isn't much fun when you can't see where you're headed, LOL!)

OMG! I think you are my twin. On our first trip to CA from Australia in 2007, Hubby was the only one brave enough to ride it and he didn't stop talking about how awesome it was. When we booked to go back this year he said "my one wish is for all 5 of us to do CS", "I'll decide when I get there I thought".
I am the worlds biggest chicken! I get so scared before rides I nearly pass out. In May this year Hubby and 2 of the kids went on. Youngest DD and I sat out. My son said "mum I know you will just love this ride it is soooooo fun", "No I won't, I will be too scared and I don't see fun in being scared". Youngest daughter 9 rode the next day and loved it. At this point I announced "I have decided I'm not doing it, I am scared of it and I don't need to prove anything to anyone so stop asking me to go on it end of story!!!!!".
Well, on our second last day there we first went on Toy Story Mania (love it!) and the next stop was California Screaming. Don't know what came over me but I lined straight up for it without thinking twice (lucky lines were short and I didn't have time to think twice). I decided my plan was to scream uncontrollably from start to finish and I wouldn't feel a thing. Well I started screaming before we even took off but by about half way I decided this ride was "the most fun, not scary" ride I'd ever been on. I even let go and raised my arms.

We then proceeded to ride it 7 more times in a row. Then again 3 more on our last day. It is the funnest thing I've don't in my life. I now have moments in every single day that I wish I could have "just one more ride".

I can't even explain how fun it is. You have to do it!!!!!!
By the way I also wear contacts and hate fast rides and big drops.

By the way I hated Splash mountain! The drop nearly made me cry I was so scared, but the drops in California Screamin have me laughing:rotfl:

I love riding in the back on the long roller coasters! I think you get more out of it since the front has to kinda wait for the back to come up before it can let loose and drop down again! The very front is cool though! BTW, the last few times I rode CA Screamin' over May and June, the speakers on the green train was not working so make sure you ask if it is working, and if not, ask to switch to another train!
