California Props

That makes me so sick.

Why do we have to put a limit on marriage? What's so wrong with two men or two women getting married? How is that OUR position to say, "Well, since you have male parts and you have male parts, you two can't get married even though you love eachother."

We have no right in saying that. It disgusts me beyond belief.

This disgusts me.

I am so happy and proud that I live in a country that supports and allows gay marriage.

:sad2:

I'm tired of these people shoving their beliefs down everyone's throats. Disgusting is what it is. You (YES on 8 voters) can say NO on 8, because guess what, YOU don't have to get married. Denying these rights is dispicable.

Personally, I'm against gay marriage. If you love each other, thats fine! Live as a couple, and get one of those documents that gives you rights as a legal couple. That's fine with me. But as a Christian, I believe that marriage is meant to be between a man and a woman.

Do you object to civil marriage? Or all marriage?

Is is the sacrament of matrimony that you object to being allowed for gays?

I can agree with the sacrament thing. It's a religious ideal and should be left as such. But as I believe that religion should have no part in government, a civil marriage has no grounds to be denied. A civil marriage is that "obtain a document that gives you the rights of a legal couple".

To me, the religious marriage (as in the sacrament of matrimony) is one thing and civil marriages are another.

I'm disappointed in California voters, as well as those in Arizona and Florida.

I have no idea. I just know that I object to gay religious marriage.

Like, do you still support benefits and civil unions for gays and lesbians?

Florida's Amendment 2 banned gay marriages, gay civil unions, and all benefits. THAT'S what angers me.
I am also ashamed with Arkansas. They have passed an amendment where any gay couple, or single parent (gay or straight) can not adopt a child. I can't believe they'd rather have kids in an orphanage. :sad2:

I think its great that its not allowed. I'm against it 100%.
I do not support it in anyway.

ITA with you on that. :thumbsup2

May I ask why? What does it hurt you if two same sex people love each other and want to proclaim their love a step higher in a civil union?

This is where the problem lies, as several of the amendments also banned civil unions, which are needed in order to have legal benefits.

To me all marriage is, is a sign that you love another person and want to share that fact with everyone in the world..

Religion doesn't even come into it for me, I know, that sounds crazy.

I think thats awful that there are places that wont allow a gay couple to wed.

I mean, I think its fine to be AGAINST gay marriages/couples/etc but doesn't mean you need to discriminate against it and stop other people from doing what they want just because of their belief.

Selfish isn't the right word, but I can't find the right one.

That's dusgusting.
The government shouldnt be able to tell us if we can marry the same sex.
To those who are happy, why? It has no effect on you AT ALL. While your happy about something that has no effect on you, someone else is miserable.

Wow.

I'll ask you the same thing that I asked HouseMD (sorry I don't know your name).

Would you be against a civil marriage for gays? One held in a courthouse with no priest or religious official present at all. Just a small ceremony and the signing of a piece of paper.

To me, there's a difference between civil marriage and holy matrimony.

I just ranted about this on the Obama thread.
But this makes me SO ANGRY.
If you're going to give someone rights, give them to them. Don't be like 'Here ya go... PSYCH!! You didn't think I was serious did you?'

No on H8.

ITA.

Disagree with it all you like people, but why make other people's life miserable?

It's not as if the government were saying "now it is legal, you must all become gay couples". it doesn't affect straight couples at all imo.

Yeah, I agree that is awful.

It's like waving candy in someone's face then taking it away from them.

What about all those people who began saving up for a wedding, as weddings take like years to save for, then now they can't get married? What is gonna happen with all that >.>

Thank you.

I am now leaving this thread. If I dont I will get myself in trouble.

That's one of the most outrageous things I've ever heard.
I was so proud of our country when California took the step of accepting people the way they are.
And now this. That's making me sick.
Every single day in religion class, I have to listen to my teacher rant about how gay marriage is bad, abortion is bad, blah, blah, blah.
However, I always rested assured that people outside the walls of Catholic school felt differently.
Guess not.

I bet in a hundred years, kids will be sitting in history class listening to how, a hundred years ago, America denied equal rights to gay people.
And they won't be able to believe it, just like we can't believe that segregation was ever an issue.
In my mind, it's essentially the same thing.

...Wait, what happens to the gay couples that were already married?!
Do they just get their rights as a married couple taken away?
That's disgusting.

:sad2:
I'm so disappointed in California and my own state.
I mean, seriously people? Is it hurting you if two people are in love and want the same rights that you get?
I just don't get why this is an issue at all. Why do we ever have to debate this? Religion and state are supposed to be SEPARATED.
Maybe it does say being gay is a sin in the bible. But not everyone believes in what the bible says. :confused3 Why should two loving people, who just so happen to be the same sex, be forced to follow things they don't believe in? My opinion, a church should never have to marry a same-sex couple if it goes against their beliefs. But I see no reason why civil marriage is illegal. And why they can't have the same benefits a heterosexual couple can.

I just don't get it. It makes me so angry.

I like the way you worded that, and I completely agree.

The church doesn't have to- but that's not the main problem.
The problem is just uniting two people and giving them the right to benefits heterosexual couples have.

I think it's completely ridiculous for them ban ALL forms of unions or civil marriages. Why is it any of their buisness?

It isn't segregation like it was then, per se, but it still is discrimination. It is wrong to take someone's rights away because YOU (general) don't like it.

Actually, I think their marriage will be considered null and void. Like Ellen DeGeneres and Portia DeRossi, I'm pretty sure their marriage is now null and void.
