It isn't segregation like it was then, per se, but it still is discrimination. It is wrong to take someone's rights away because YOU (general) don't like it.

Actually, I think their marriage will be considered null and void. Like Ellen DeGeneres and Portia DeRossi, I'm pretty sure their marriage is now null and void.

Aww... that's really sad. :sad2:
I love Ellen and she seemed so happy to be joining Portia in marriage...

I feel really bad for all others, too, of course, Hollywood or not. That's completely insane. That's like forcing somebody to divorce only without all the legal work. I hope the couples out there waiting are staying strong in this troubling time...

Finally, something that I'm happy about!!

And no, I don't have any regrets saying it!

Obviously more people than not, wanted it banned. Its not like these people cannot live together. If they're that desperate, then why not move to connecticut or massachusetts!

Yeah I am 100% against gay MARRAIGE. That term is thrown around and people don't seem to get the meaning of it. Marraige is for betweeen a MAN and a WOMAN. Look in any dictionary and you will specifically see man and woman.

I do believe it is wrong to not allow civil unions though. It is pretty much the same thing, without the whole religion thing going on. I believe people have the right to love whoever they want, but to be married is something I am against.

This probably makes no sense, but that is my opinion. & obviously it is A LOT of other people's opinion as well seeing how marraige is no longer being allowed. :/

Actually, I'm not against gay marriage- religious or not. I just don't think that the church should be forced into doing something. It blends the church and state too much.

But I think not allowing unions also blends it too much so I don't know.

Can I ask you two the same question I asked the others?

Assuming that your basis for supporting this decision is rooted in your faith, of course.

Would you be against a civil marriage for gays? One held in a courthouse with no priest or religious official present at all. Just a small ceremony and the signing of a piece of paper.

Like I said before, to me, there's a difference between Civil Marriage and Holy Matrimony.

Okay, if I was gay, I wouldn't be moving just to get married.
That's just ridiculous.
People shouldn't have to move so they have have benefits.
The rights is what the problem is for me. If a church doesn't want to marry a gay couple fine. But there's no point in denying them the rights that a heterosexual couple has. That's just descrimination for descriminations sake.

I wouldn't want the word 'marriage' in the ceremony. Its just a union, or being together. Yeah, I guess it could be at the courthouse. :rolleyes1

But like I said, I'm happy the courts and judges can't over turn it. It is what it is.:thumbsup2

I agree. I don't believe churches should have to marry a gay couple, since it goes against their religion. But rights and civil union marriage, is fine.

I agree as well. Why should they have to move so they can be married? What if the roles were switched, and the world was mostly gay, but there were straight people. How would you feel if you were told, you can't marry because you like the opposite sex? Does that make sense?

It wont hurt you if they are married, so why do you care? Why are you happy for other peoples misery? :sad2:

Hil - That was not directed to you. Other then the I agree as well.

Yes they can live together, but that's the extent of it. Imagine yourself living with the man you have been together with for 5 years and are absolutely in love.
Would it bother you that you wouldn't be able to visit him in the hospital?
Would it bother you not being able to file taxes together, even when you have the same status as a married couple without the certificate?

Why should someone have to move because they want to be married?

Not to mention if you adopted a child, he or she could just walk out with the child, leaving you no custody?(provided they signed the papers)

Thank you.

I am now leaving this thread. If I dont I will get myself in trouble.
You're welcome.

May I ask why? What does it hurt you if two same sex people love each other and want to proclaim their love a step higher in a civil union?

This is where the problem lies, as several of the amendments also banned civil unions, which are needed in order to have legal benefits.

I'll ask you the same thing that I asked HouseMD (sorry I don't know your name).

Would you be against a civil marriage for gays? One held in a courthouse with no priest or religious official present at all. Just a small ceremony and the signing of a piece of paper.

To me, there's a difference between civil marriage and holy matrimony.

I have my reasons to why I don't support it; here's a few reasons why I don't support "gay marriage" at all:

1.) It affects me.

2.) I don't feel like having my future six year old going to school, coming back saying, "Mommy, why does this boy have Two Daddies? How do Two Daddies have babies together?"

THEY Don't, That's Why. And plus, that goes for the woman that who "want to get married" as well. It just doesn't FIT, ITS WRONG IN SO MANY WAYS.

3.) Oh and for the record -- Its not "Adam and Steve" Its "Adam and Eve" Not the other way around.

--------------

I could get into so many other reasons why, but I really don't want to get into them on here at all. I would like it if you would all respect my OPINION and not ask me ANY MORE questions on this. Keep your "opinions" clean and don't make me say anything else on this thread because 1.) This is MY OPINION, HELLO! 2.) Call me "closed minded" on this thread I won't care, you don't even know me. 3.) I don't want to deal with this thread anymore, and the rest of the people who are all for "it."

IM DONE WITH THIS THREAD NOW. BYE.

Well then we shall just agree to disagree.
I personally, don't see how it can affect you if you or a loved one aren't gay/lesbian.
Also, your second point seems like slacking parenting. Instead of teaching children hate, you should teach them differences. "Some people choose to love another man instead of a woman. Mommy and Daddy don't support that".

Oh noes. Your kid is going to ask about why some kid has two fathers.
It's the end of the freaking world.

I already said I was not against that at all, just against the religious aspect :thumbsup2 Sorry if I worded it badly.

To Anti-Gay Marriage people:

Here's a question, what if, instead of your kid asking you "mommy, why does this boy have two daddies" when they are 6, he/she says to you when they are 15 "mommy, i think i have a crush on a a boy/girl in my class and i don't know what to do..."
THEN what will you do?!?!?! Will you disown your child and tell them that they are disgusting and going to hell? Would you want them to be miserable for the rest of their life? Would you be happy with them not having the same right as you o to be with the person they love forever, in a legal sense (therefore getting tax breaks and being able to start a family)

You say you have other reasons, but I have failed to see ANYONE mention their reason other than "religious reasons" or "it's gross/wrong". There are those of us who don't believe in Adam and Eve AT ALL, why should we have to live by YOUR standards???

I'm sorry to get so worked up about this, but I just CANNOT let this go, because I CANNOT begin to understand how it would have a negative effect on your life one way or another.

so i haven't had the time to come check back. /i myself was a no on 8 person. I believe people shoulld be with who they love. I am religious so I know what the bible says but heck not everyone believes the same things I do.

as being from california, same-sex marige is not "illegal", it will just not be called a marige, domestic partners still have the same rights and benefits, the only reason this bill was passed was that same-sex marige was to not be taught in elementary schools.

You're welcome.

You know, I'm not trying to be rude, but after feeling like this was an attack on me, personally, I feel that I have some right to point out that you seem very, very immature.

If you feel the need to make the words "gay marriage" smaller to belittle it, that shows me that you have no respect for other people. your need to replace the phrase with a downsized "it" also shows me that you lack the maturity to at least say the correct phrase. It reminds me of those people in health class who laugh when the teacher uses anatomically correct terms for the genitals.

See, Amendment 2 was passed, and that's even worse, right? Doesn't that strip them of all rights?
